I'm in need of some new music. I'm in Manchester, sadly. I'd probably say one of:

Magic Arm - www.myspace.com/magicarm

Nomad Jones - www.myspace.com/nomadjones

Modernaire - www.myspace.com/modernairetheband

Sir Yes Sir
www.myspace.com/siryessiryessir

The Answering Machine - www.myspace.com/theansweringmachine

MANCHESTER

How about Vile Vile Creatures from up there, understand it's a bit sexist up there though

Whiskycats

The first unsigned band ever to headline the 1500 Academy on Friday November 23:

http://www.myspace.com/whiskycats

Innit

Vote for Cats In Paris

from Manchester.

www.myspace.com/catsinparis

Or does PWL count? Although he is technically from Cardiff/Bolton?

^ Didn't need to link, btw

As alcxxk already did.

^Bournemouth

also 'The Happy Traumas' are amazing. Think art brut with metal breakdowns. awesomo

Bury St Edmunds

Bathwater: www.myspace.com/goodeveningwearebathwater

Pretty damn fine.

I really can't think of much else worth listing in Bury at the moment. Boring.

Hmmm

Between The Rosie Taylor Project -

www.myspace.com/therosietaylorproject

and These Monsters -

www.myspace.com/thesemonsters

Although I definitely would say David Thomas Broughton if he was still based here -

www.myspace.com/davidthomasbroughton

Agree with both of those

but would also add:

the rollercoaster project- for fans of khonnor and likeminded decent electro

wintermute- better than most at the jerky indie thing

The Debuts- who are currently helping me get over the demise of 'the organ' by sounding very very similar to them

munch munch

Sadly, they don't have much in the way of competition.

Hereford

www.myspace.com/gossameralbatross

yes it's my band but we are the best thing to come out of there in a long time.

i guess

Foals count for brighton.

Blood Red Shoes too.
Maths Class.
Plenty others too, this is just off the top of my head.

I think one member of Foals rented a flat here,

for about 2 weeks, but local music press are very much of the 'of Brighton' persuasion.

Foals

Nope, it's Oxford all the way!

Better than the SAS?

Come to think of it I had a very good burger that was made from Hereford beef recently.

I am familiar with your work though, so I'm down with the jaggery!

brilliant...

nothing like a good bit of self promotion.

Love the new EP versions, btw.

^^ This

The EP sounds absolutely incredible.

is this in reference to my ep?

this thread confuses me.

gossamer albatross

is a great name for a band. well done.

i like this band

i've asked them to come and play in manchester

Calvin Harris.

He's also the only band or artist from my town. Ever.

durham acoustic stars

short term effect
http://www.myspace.com/shorttermeffectmusic
as recommended on the inside of frank turners sleep is for the week album alongside jamie t and some others.

one night stand in north dakota
http://www.myspace.com/onenightstandinnorthdakota
not recommeded by anyone indie-famous that i'm aware of but still very good.

Walkley

www.myspace.com/theyouthclub

This is a jag thread, right?

Potters Bar?

I refuse to believe that there are bands from Potters Bar.

But then, I also refuse to jag myself for Enfield.

you live in a lot of towns

mr crablin

Somerset

None, www.myspace.com/noneuk

THey are from Clevedon & last I heard made it to the semi finals of the unisgned bands programme on channel 4, check them out!

ZunZunEgui

ARE GREAT.
As are Headfall (best) but they'm not new.

Wizz Jones

And he's in his 60s.

I

also like Cats in Paris

BOURNEMOUTH

Skitanja
www.mysace.com/skitanja

The most nuts band you will ever come across.

The Righteous Ones Of The Blazing Rockets

They're currently inactive (I think) but they're bloody good.

Video here...

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1017863

I don't know of any

the only three bands/artists I know who have come out of Watford are

Sixth
Mohair and
Let Loose.

Mohair...hmmm...

They were okay, weren't they?

Stuart O' Connor's from Watford way, he's fantastic.

Cardiff

well i think they're cardiff based anyway. some of them are from Ammanford.

ANYWAY.

Truckers Of Husk

www.myspace.com/truckersofhusk

They feature Hywel who was briefly in Future Of The Left and Rod who drummed for Jarcrew and a couple other fellas (including a cellist), and they make this frantic mostly instrumental noise of fantasticness. They had a song on the Swn festival related Plan B covermount, and they're one of the best live bands i've seen in aaaaaaaages. I basically love them, and want a tshirt.

Truckers Of Husk.

London

blue spring!!!!!!

thesoundofchilredwhowerebornoutofwedlock's band, they are actually reallreally good, best Reading band i've seen of late

i can't get onto myspace at work, but i gues it's www.myspace.com/bluespring ?

cheer's for the shoutout!

yes, it's www.myspace.com/bluespring

newtracksonlinenewEPoutsoonwoot!

The Gin Riots

in London!

the

ONLY band in reading is blue spring!

Cornwall

doesn't have much at the moment, the musical community has kind of imploded, with everyone wanting to be more famous than the next band, and loads of bands moving to London to play dives in Hammersmith then proclaim that they're "making it big"...

www.myspace.com/wivesoffamers - terrible recordings, but really great live.

www.myspace.com/shagrat - again, very amateur recordings, but great fun live.

Nottingham

is getting better by the minute.
Mint Ive are leading the way with their starglazed anthems, Model Morning aren't far behind in a similar fashion, then there's Spaceships Are Cool making headway in a quite unique fashion, The Smears still kicking arse with their grrrlpower infused punkpop, You Slut! giving it the big instrumental noise push and BattleCat! ripping braincells and dancefloors alike.

There are others too, but these'll do for starters!

LES RUPRETTES

just stumbled across these guys a couple of weeks ago, strongly recommend.

myspace.com/lesruprettes

and saw this girl sing her heart out on friday.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YSnkT2-ast4

...> in Manchester (sigh)

quite partial to the answering machine I must say...WFANFC sound very, very good on record but dont quite cut it live for me...The Deodates are fucking ace in both respects....lot of other stuff just seems to meld into one big haze....any that I have blatantly missed?

Soccer Committee ???

If there ever was a name to put you off listening to a band then this it.

MILTON KEYNEEEEEEEESSS

Ha Ha....technically Bletchley though:

www.myspace.com/actionbeat

Coventry?

There is more to Cov than the Enemy... thank god. Check out:

www.myspace.com/dogamusic
liking tracks 2 & 3.

ta

^^

Where the hell do you go for good live music in MK??? I end up going to london.
If you know something I don't, please please tell!!!

York

Well

I saw a band Friday eve called Arcadia. Will find mspz link. They are Banbury based. And considering they're quite new, they were also actually quite good.

link:
http://www.myspace.com/arcadiamusicscene
particularly 'seaside'.
I don't have a 'favourite' in my area right now. But these guys are pretty good.

Sheffield:

CRAINE!

^^

lol. CRAINE indeed.

high wycombe

doesn't seem to have done much since youthmovies, but 'the defeat' from reading are ace. they've been around supporting the 'movies on a few occasions. comparisons: the appleseed cast, early youthmovies.
cccheck- www.myspace.com/thedefeatuk

Derby

Hmm, really has to be Plans and Apologies, a jangly, melodic indie pop band who aren't averse to sudden bouts of killer riffage every now and then.

http://www.myspace.com/plansandapologies

Also you all ought to check out Lucy Day, who is a rather excellent singer-songwritery person from Derby (well Belper actually, but it's close enough) and has a lovely voice.

www.myspace.com/lucydayband

As for Swansea, to be honest I haven't been there long enough to see any decent live bands...doesn't help that my flatmates reckon my taste in music is 'crap' and I like 'weird shit', while they listen to brainless hair metal/washed up classic rock acts/white funk/timbaland *shudders*.

Yeah they're good, but

Plans and Apologies have been around for years and years and years!

bf

i like this thread.

True, but still

they always deserve a plug whenever and wherever possible and they still haven't got the kind of exposure you'd expect them to have after all this time, considering how good they are.

that is true

they used to go to my secondary school and i'm 25...don't know if they were a band then but they were deffo "around"

You should check out:

Venus Bogardus - www.myspace.com/venusbogardus

You and the Atom Bomb - www.myspace.com/youandtheatombomb

The Hysterical Injury - www.myspce.com/thehystericalinjury

Emily Breeze - www.myspace.com/emilybreeze

Santa Dog - www.myspace.com/santadoguk

These are Bristol bands, nominally.

local

small prog band
www.myspace.com/jupitersfirst
amazingly talented for their ages.

hereford

yeah, i like both of them bands

and magic socks (who are R&tR aren't they?).

nearly...

different band that share 2 members

I currently live in Huddersfield...

So i'm fooked really

-

It's bleak here in deepest darkest Hertfordshire and 80% of bands that play at Club85 gigs that I can get into are just boring screamo dirge.

I saw
http://www.myspace.com/flamboyantbella who are a bit annoying recorded but fun live.

SWANSEA

or, as some escapees like to call it, Swasnia:

Chavboy:
http://www.myspace.com/chavboynumber1

Sort of a musical Alan Bennett (without the drawn out memoirs and dull diary sections in the LRB).

Everyone else but Burt:
http://www.myspace.com/everyoneelsebutburt
Joy in song-sized packets of joy.

poq:
http://www.myspace.com/poq

Evil rapists with electro-indie affectations.

I disagree with mr adam zapsta

there's plenty of good stuff in Bristol/Bath

we gots:

You & the atom bomb
Fuck Buttons
Team Brick

and kinda Los Camp, cause a few of them are from round 'ere like. If you like their kinda thing that is.

and the aforementioned Munch Munch

Some people also seem to like Safetyword. I think they're wack, personally.
