Just booked some flights for me and a friend to go to Berlin in March, and rather excited! Anyone have any recommendations on places to go i.e. good clubs/bars/sights? Or websites to obtain such info? Advice muchos appreciated!

Go

to Savignyplatz for some drinks. It's really nice

I'm there for New Year

Any New Year recommendations as well?

ALSO

any areas you'd recommend staying in? I'm tempted by Prenzlauer Berg, purely because its a Beirut song as well. yay or nay?

I would try and stay somewhere that's within the "ring"

and Prenzlauer Berg (well, Prenzlauer Allee) is on it. It just makes U-bahn transport into the centre just that little bit longer if you are on the ring. Plus, it's very ossie up there. Which is interesting but they are not always friendly.

I always aim to stay somewhere in Mitte or Friedrichshain.

Go to Pedro Records on Tegeler Weg (the west)! I got Devo's entire back cat on reasonable quality vinyl for about 20 euros.

Plus, definitely eat at the restaurant "Assel"

it's on Oranienburger Strasse (don't let that put you off) and is one of the best places I have eaten at in the world!

Lastly, one thing I always do is go to Treptower Park

and walk along the river and then see the Russian war memorial. It's gigantic to behold and features 50 foot high dipped stone Soviet flags (which are clad in red marble confiscated from Hitler's chancellory) and a massive Soviet solder clutching a girl whilst stomping on a swastika.

cheers dude

the devo back catalogue thing sounds pretty, pretty good.

I stayed in Friedrichshain..

...and it was cool, the east side is definitely more "artsy". ate in a very good north african place in Friedrichshain, but can't remember the name of the street or restaurant. Check out Ellien Allien's excellent online Berlin guide to clubs http://www.bpitchcontrol.de/berlinguide?PHPSESSID=5c41941a187f3c3bc8fcbe005e14d8dc
have fun you dirty little monsters

that link

is brill, cheers.

When I saw this thread

my first thought was turning and returning to some secret place inside.
Watching in slow motion as you turn to me and say. Take my breath away.

TOO EARLY

Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrom

paris to berlin and every disco I've been in my heart is PUMPING FOR LOVE

*swirls

I used to live

in Berlin. There is one restaurant, even though Ilived there 4 years ago that I still miss www.monsieurvuong.de - amazing Vietnamese food in Hackescher Markt area (Mitte)
and definitely go to the lakes on the outskirts for a swim if it is warm enough.
Most of the clubs are very electro...so if you like that sort of thing, youre made.

I used to live in Prenzlberg - the really nice area is around Kolliwitzplatz...nearest tube is Rosa Luxemborg Platz...enjoy!

sadly

I think the average temp. for march is between 0-9 degrees. so probably no swimming!

true, that.

Depends how Viking you are ;-)

Saturday night techno/electro club:

The answer to that is Panoramabar in Ostbahnof. This article should whet your appetite, discusses the first night it opened a few years ago. Ask werk, he agrees :)

brilliant

this looks great!

i am going there too

a few days after ATP.
christmas markets :D

I live

in Helmholtz Platz in Prenzlauer Berg. Good cheap food is: Asia Deli on Lychner Str, or Green Rice on Prezlauer Allee. Food+beer is generally good but expensive around Kollowitz Platz and the water tower. Nice Russian restaurant here.
White Trash Fast Food for (indie/punk) and Wild At Heart (anything-billy/punk) are popular places to see bands. Maria Am Ostbahnhof is an amazing bunker-like venue for larger bands and techno bollocks.

If it's your first time here, go up the TV tower. Also, I found the Stasi museum in Lichtenberg fascinating.

cheers

the tv tower is high on our list of things to do. thanks for the hints on venues too.

woooo. this is ages away but very excited already.

PM Mortgage_Boy

he's been in Berlin for aaaages and knows what's going on.
