Seriously.

Did you read the DiScover piece?

BEST NEW BAND.

Essential.

yes

and no. average indie fare, from a cursory listen.

You're wrong.

You'll learn so.

x

agreed

listened to 2 tracks. give them an initial 6/10

really good

not really new.

God

Sorry, but I really dislike this kind of comment. They are new to almost everyone in the world. Yes they've been around for a while, but they just got signed properly and now gigging heavily and releasing more than about ten copies, so they count as NEW okay?

Some fucker o the PLan B boards made this comment about Fuck Buttons

because they've been together a couple of years. And they hadn't even released anything yet! Or course they're bloody new, their first 7" just came out.

Liked what i heard..

just ordered the 7"

sorry sir

normally I'd agree with you, but they've self-released about 7 albums or something now, and been together for approaching a decade. And have played as backing band to Herman Dune and Mountain Goats amongst others. Infact they've released something with John Darnielle on 4AD. I just feel it's a little of a disservice, perhaps, to suggest they're 'new'.

I don't know what being signed 'properly' means.

Fair, they've been around.

I guess it's just the inferred oneupmanship of going "harrumph! wellactuallyithinkyou'llfind.." about an emerging band. Forget it.

I class them as new, even they've been around the block.

I'd say being signed 'properly' means they have a record deal that goes beyondn a single 7" or a self-released album. Something to get their songs recorded and properly distributed, reviewed in the press, put on tour etc. You know. The next level up from just gigging and chucking out a record. Even though gigging and chucking out a record is a good effort in itself!

I was by no means intending to one up you

if I was I'd have been far more obvious and condescending about it than that.

I just doubt very much that they'd even consider themselves 'new'.

At least we both think they're good. (y)

But do you know how it feels?

Know how it feels?
To build your nest in bucket deals?

Well said that man!

Far too much snobbery on these boards.

Are they the ones

who supported Of Montreal in Cardiff?

If so I quite liked them and intended to buy a cd but they went and sat outside in their van so i was too scared to talk to them.

I wasn't exactly raving about them though.

Perhaps they seemed better cos Pull Tiger Tail were on immediately after.

OR

was that the Wave Machines? Were the wave pictures the ones supporting Euros Childs at Tommy's Bar.

If so then they are very much not the best new anything.

Maybe I'll look at the article eh? might be a picture or something to clarify it?

I'm writing a blog about them now.

Shall I email you the song that made me buy their album?

yeah go on then

i'm surprised to see you raving about something so generically 'indie' though.

I like indie, when it's not

really boring music about nothing in particular by a bunch of disinterested twenty-somethings. Which is most of the time.

MOdern Life Is Rubbish is one of my favourite albums ever, as is His 'n' Hers! Check out my rock solid indie fan credentials!

And if The Wave Pictures make an album anywhere as good as it should be, they are contenders to join that list.

wave machines supported Of Montreal

Wave Pictures supported Euros.

Wave Pictures are basically brilliant. I'm glad they're getting some proper momentum now.

i fail to see

the brilliance. good yes. brilliant no.

weak

saw them on saturday and was mightily disappointed. apart from the nifty ukelele solo, they seemed like a third-rate hefner.

I like them loads better than Hefner.

But there you go.

You say potato, I say you're a big gay.

A third rate Hefner

would probably mean they were the second best band ever.

:)

I went and saw them on Friday night on a bit of a whim and thought they were wonderful.

^^^ this

I thought they were ace.

^

The amazing lyrics just keep on coming, it seems like every song has ten couplets to remember, like The Smiths.

"The last swimmers crawled up from the pool, looked at my beautiful belly and drooled."

I had heard great things

and was massively disappointed when I saw them live. I liked the ukelele songs though.

I LOVE the wave

pictures.

The people of Cardiff had been spoiled by them for the last few years before they buggered off to London.

sorry to reiterate, but no way

can this band ever be described as new. Saw them supporting Herman Dune at The Social in Nottingham over four years ago and they seemed quite 'established' then.

Anyway, no point debating their 'newsness' - they seemed terrible back then, like really embarrassingly bad. But I've just listened to them on MySpace and they sound pretty good and about a completely different band and about a million times better (especially the vocals). Will try and check them out live asap. I'm actually really impressed with the vocals.

I like them

Not new

Agreed. We played with them earlier this year at some art school in Cardiff, they'd studied and played there lots before apparently and the crowd were very lovely to them. They were also very lovely to us too, so this may negate any lovelyness: we were shit and drunk. I remember being really impressed with them though. Great frontman, nice melodies...I can't remember the rest, I was busy scabbing as much of the shared rider as I could. In conclusion, I would.

NEW TO ME AND TO MOST OF THE WORLD.

Okay, glad that's settled.

The singer guy sounds like

Eddie Argos.

Once again, Brainlove

You prove yourself to be a truly benevolent force in this uncertain world of ours.

^ Thankyou for recommending them is what I mean

'Now Your Pregnant' has left me strangely heartbroken.

Mmmm, lots of filth and heartbreak.

I like the surreal twist on the lyrics in every song...

Okay, I just downloaded Sophie

and I don't like the production (on Long Island).

2 songs in

gives it...7/10 so far. I really like the lyrical journey you go on, it's captivating in that way.
