what do they actually sound like? I've read that they are "slowcore" but this means nothing to me. Is it mostly just guitar & drums? Vocal harmonies?
I think I'm going to get the Christmas EP later on, you see.

They are 'wow'
One of the best live bands you'll ever see.
Beautiful male/female vocal harmonies. Guitar/bass/drums setup, production quite natural rather than overdone...all about 'vibe'. Guitars are quite raw and 'jagged', drums are sparse and use fairly simple rhythms. Slow moving, beautiful/entrancing songs. Particularly good pre-sleep, or accompanied by joint...
That's the best I can do right now ;)
Sounds ace
I imagine they would be good sleepy christmas day music too.
The Christmas EP
has my favourite ever Christmas song on it. The description above is about right.
the most beautiful sounding music ever
generally - minimal guitar, minimal bass, drums (brushes on hi-hat, cymbal and tom only), the closest male and female vocals ever, very very slow on some of their songs. beautiful, hypnotic music.
as said above, amazing live (their union chapel gig a few years back is my favourite gig of all time).
the Christmas EP is great too! Just Like Christmas is not typical of their sound but is great.
Man...
That Union Chapel gig was so un-fucking-believably mind blowing. Will any band ever top it?
OK, what's their best album?
i'll probably get that too, if I like the EP
This question seems to get asked almost every day now
Things We Lost in the Fire in my opinion, but you'll find a wide range of answers to that question.
Currently
I'm thinking 'The Great Destroyer'...
hmm...
secret name. maybe. maybe trust. maybe.
for me it's 'I could live in hope' their first.
And discovering them chronologically seem like a good idea.
it does indeed
I've been listening to the christmas ep alot
Awesssoememememe!
Christmas is GORGEOUS
especially If You Were Born Today. Absolutely stunning. I agree with whoever said Things We Lost In The Fire was their best - perfectly paced, not a dud track (apart from the untitled minute-long interlude) and generally lush as fuck. Understated Albini production too. Ace on stilts.
recent stuff any good?
Things we lost in the fire was beautiful and they were absolutely incredible when they toured that. I haven't heard anything since the album after that though, what's good?
All of it!
Trust is a little too long for me but has some stunning songs on it (Canada, Last Snowstorm of the Year) and both The Great Destroyer and Drums and Guns are excellent. The latter is one of the best albums of 2007
Do it!!
I bought the Christmas EP on Monday, and it's the first Low thing I've ever actually heard. But it's wonderful, and now I think I'm gonna have to get everything...
Yeah I just got the christmas ep and it sounds rather lovely
stupid itunes won't work and emusic doesn't have the first album, which I now want to get. Harrumph.
Oh, and I can't torrent it or anything.
