As I got older I didn't really pay attention to what genres I was listening to as such. When I was 14 it was angst ridden nu metal all the way...and no I'm not proud of it.
It's weird looking at it now, I might actually put it onto a mixtape!
MUTTER!!!!!!!!

Andrew WK reminds me of a very specific time!
the summer of 2002, just before I left cardiff. we went to the "twisted by design" indie disco most saturdays and the DJ there (who i used to work with) would play this and "come to daddy" back to back.

Fathers Day - Frank Turner
The Real Damage - Frank Turner
You Won't Know - Brand New
Newborn - Muse
Oxygen - Willy Mason
Symbol in my Driveway - Jack Johnson
I Can Barely Breathe - Manchester Orchestra
Get A Job - Offspring
Chop Suey - System
"The Emo Song" - Bill Bailey
You started your musical existence with Frank Turner?
Really?
Vaguely in order
but I have a cold which is making my brain mushy and insufficient memory.
Lots of Beatles songs from as far back as I can remember listening to music.
Cliff Richard - various songs, when I was about 10. Eeurgh.
Blur - Charmless Man (I remember this was on a Now... compilation which I had on tape, I rewound it again and again to listen to it.)
Beach Boys - various, just know that ~I bought a greatest hits cd.
Manic Street Preachers - Design for Life (one of the first cds I bought when I got my own cd player)
Ash - A Life Less Ordinary (also on a Now... fell in love with this song.)
Muse - Newborn (my friend sent me a mixtape, this is the only song I can recall from the list)
We've now got to 15 year old me, who fancied someone with different music taste and bought albums to listen to obsessively in a bid to somehow make myself more interesting and attractive to said person, without ever saying anything or making eye contact. Yes, that sentence was too long.
Radiohead - No Surprises
Radiohead - Climbing Up the Walls
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Radiohead - Karma Police
Ash - Goldfinger
Ash - Oh Yeah
Ash - Innocent Smile
Bluetones - If
Whitetown - Your Woman
Then I discovered Smashing Pumpkins. Glorious.
Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings (played for weeks)
SP - Today
SP - Mayonaise (favourite song for at least a year, desperately identified with it as lonely, pissed off teenager)
Metallica - Fuel
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Pantera - Cemetary Gates
Pixies - Where is My Mind
The Cure - Just Like Heaven
New Order - True Faith
Nirvana - Marigold
Alice in Chains - Down in a Hole
Pearl Jam - Evenflow
There seems to be a gap in my memory, which I think is when I started fulltime work and had less time for discovering music.
Snow Patrol - We Can Run Away Now They're All Dead and Gone
Red Storm Rising - Alien Sun
Beach Boys - God Only Knows
Butch Walker - Mixtape
Butch Walker - My Way
Marvelous 3 - You're So Yesterday
Marvelous 3 - Cold as Hell
Of course, I've forgotten to add Nine Inch Nails and many other bands and songs. Nice brain.
I've realised
that I conveniently forgot to mention Spice Girls, All Saints, OTT, North and South, Steps and Boyzone. Denial, clearly.
Long time no see...
:D
Why yes,
it has been ages. I've just remembered how DiS makes me laugh enough for the cats to give me funny looks and decided I should participate again after however many years it's been.

a place to bury strangers - i know i'll see you
and this one is really random but i heard it yesterday and can't stop listening to it: buena vista social club - chan chan
I can't do this
The first song I remember remembering, in the sense that I can place the time when I enjoyed it, was Bowie's 'Space Oddity'. This is because it's title resembled 'Space Odyssey', a film that was talked about a lot on Tv and in newspapers. (I didn't see it), and the music from the film was used for the moon landing which, obviously, was astonishingly momentous.
I was six.
well.
childhood 5 - 12
oasis - wonderwall
limp bizkit - that realy famous song. cant remember what.
darude - sandstorm
12-15
The Libertines - Time for heroes

The Coral - Dreaming Of You
15-17
Battles - Atlas
Foals - Hummer
Beirut - Elephant Gun
Broken Social Scene - Fire Eyed Boy
Los Campesinos - You! Me! Dancing

19: Life Without Buildings- The Leanover
then: Life Without Buildings- Love Trinity
Aw yeah.
Except for a brief period of shit taste in my late childhood/early teens, its classics all the way.
If those are by age
I'm confused. Walking Barefoot only came out 5 years ago, so if you're 19 or older now it can't have been your favourite song when you were 12.
Me, petty? Apparently. Sorry about that.
In April 2001
when 'Free all Angels' apparently came out, I was 12.
