Electronic duo Autechre will release a new record next March.

Quaristice, Rob Brown and Sean Booth’s 9th studio album, will be out on the 3rd of March through Warp.

The record is the follow-up to the elusive pair’s Untilted longplayer, released in 2005. Read our review here.

Yes, but

will we be able to dance to it?

i love how

there's absolutely nothing to be said about this record because it'll be absolutely impossible to describe.

Autechre are amazing. Even when they're really shit they're still utterly unique.

Untilted was brilliant. Draft 7.30 was total arse - why? No one knows - they're both brain boggling complicated mashes of drums and abstract noise, one worked one didn't. Awesome.

*does a little dance in 17/3 time sig*

.

i LOVE autechre. and when i saw them live at that atp night with earth and pita they were RIPE for dancing

That night was so fucking good...

Robert Hood as the house DJ.. More, please.

That night was awesome

Lee Dorrian dj-ing to kick the night off to boot!

I'd just seen Mudhoney the same night but somehow Autechre still had me dancing to by the end.

Naaaaaaah.

Draft is phenomenal. Listen to it on good headphones, in the dark, on your own, then see how you feel about it.

yes...

please.

i used to like autechre

but then it seems they have just gone weird to my ears? i havnt liked the last couple of albums they have put out but i used to really love the others, they lack what 'tune' (hehe) they used to have in the music now

WHERE

do I start with these? been wondering for a while

start with LP5

Then everything else they've ever done, in any order, pretty much.

Best music I've ever heard, bar none. They've never released a piece of music I haven't loved (at least, as Autechre).

Sad, I know, but they are that good.

^

LP5 is my favourite too. But many people would say 'Tri Repetae' is their best. I reckon that's my second favourite so either of them is good.

They've kind of gone off on one in recent years. Very harshly inhuman and unmelodic. It's easier to warm to the early stuff where they used a lot more warm sounds and actual music.

These days it's almost entirely about gratuitously complex algorhythmic drum programming. I wouldn't get anything recent as a first purchase.

not as a first purchase, no

But the ones from Confield onwards are far more impressive than the first four, even though the earlier ones are far easier to get into. I find Tri Repetae to be a little underdeveloped, but only because I've become accustomed to their later stuff.

It used to take me until the next ae album came out to get into the previous one, but I was young and stupid.

That said, all eight of their albums (and, frankly, ep7) would probably be in my hundred favourite albums, so the order of preference doesn't really matter. I even love Incunabula, loon that I am.

Tres exciting

!

yay!

:D
