is in three of the finest films the decade of 1990s.
Being The Usual Suspects, LA Confidential and American Beauty of course.
Does this mean he's a really great actor, because in all of those films, he's absolutely superb.
I saw a minute or two of 'K Pax' and turned over immediately, worried the flawed, cliched plot would put me off him forever.
Is he good or is he not good?
Good
He's very good, yes
about those films...
1. Wrong.
2. Right.
3. Very, very wrong.
Woops.

1-3 Spot on
leaving aside
every DVD special edition collecting fanboy's favourite, The Usual Suspects, I'd be very interested to hear your defence of American fucking Beauty.
what's wrong with American Beauty?
it's the classic example
of Hollywood deciding to do an art film (to be released not too far from the Oscars of course) and failing both as art and as popular entertainment.
how so?
you haven't explained why/how it fails on both fronts
whereas
LA Confidential represents everything that's great about the Hollywood tradition.
It also shows Spacey at his very best.
American Beauty is him at his most punchable, trading in gimmicky quirks and smug enigmatic distance.
I thought everyone loved
American Beauty. I for one am certainly very fond of it.
I really loved it
not the best film I've seen but far off being the worst I've seen.
it's funny and sad and interesting, I love it.
American Beauty is quality
funny and dark. I'll ignore the negativity
He is a great actor.
And he does have a really great cameo in Seven as well.
"Detective!!"
While we're on the subject of actors with great movie runs, think about John Cazale. Appeared in 5 films before his death in the 1970's- Godfather 1 and 2, Conversation, Deer Hunter and Dog Day Afternoon.
agreed.
he's very good at being creepy in Seven
Is he the killer in Seven?
shhhhhhhhhh!
.
haha!
good shout
i was looking at his Wikipedia page only this morning actually. i'm fond of all the actors from the first Godfather film really, i've always thought James Caan & Robert Duvall were great actors, too.
It freaks me out how people age - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Robert_Duvall_by_David_Shankbone.jpg
he was
walking his dog, right.
I really like him
K-Pax was a good film though.
he's fucked up the management of the old vic by all accounts though
I got to see him in Richard II there. Pretty cruddy production, but Kevin was in it, so I was spellbound.
His performance in American Beauty is great
though I think the film's basically just a fairly rubbish misogynistic ramble.
He's also brilliant in Seven, yeah.
It may be a case of believing your own hype
As he hasn't been in anything much since American Beauty that has been great.
Although his earlier stuff is pretty brilliant. LA Confidential - best film ever. All the performances in it are excellent.
he's been pre-occupied with the Old Vic
for the last few years and before that he did his directorial project that wasn't too successful. He's a great actor.
I really want to go to the theatre again soon... after spending part of Saturday night
drunkard reading scripts from plays. Silly me.
I like Spacey.
End of post.
american beauty is absolutely dreadful
for most of the reasons mentioned above. it's also perhaps the most smug and self-satisfied film i've ever seen.
Yeah, it's a bit of a shit film. The best thing is how the League of Gentlemen
ripped it off in their third season... BEAUTIFUL.
During the 90s
He was terrific, and American Beauty is a great film I think (easily the best Best Picture Oscar winner of the last 10 years or so, though that's not saying much). LA Confidential and The Usual Suspects as mentioned are also excellent
But since then he's been coasting somewhat and starring in pretty medicore stuff. e.g. Pay It Forward, The Life of David Gale - argh!
he was also lex luther in the latest superman
..unfortunately
That was an awful film.
So bad I can hardly remember any of it, which is a terrible sign.
i genuinely think that movie was inexplicably underrated
Just to mention
The ending of Pay It Forward always makes me want to vomit. There's little sadder than a film that's set itself up to win lots of Oscars, and then is ignored all round. See also: The Shipping News (which also has Spacey) and All The King's Men last year
i like him and k-pax is really good film
american beauty, however, is like being slapped in the face with an a-level media studies text book. red = emotion etc
Let's see how it's REALLY done:
spacey = SHAT ON

he was great in
Beyond The Sea :o
do not see fred claus.
it will tarnish your opinion of him forever. despite probably being the most tolerable thing about it, i still managed to concoct several different fiery deaths that he should have succumbed to for appearing in that utter shitheap.
argh!
has anyone mentioned
swimming with sharks? absolutely his best work. period.
i offer this as evidence:
