Now, is it just me being cynical and overdramatic, or is it completely fucking shit? The more recent trilogy that is. I mean, I watched it yesterday and i just thought "...Woah. Its shit"
Am I in the minority here or what?

absolute pap

sci-fi is morally as wrong as starving old people.

no! sci-fi is an essential part of human development

its provided the inspiration for all our best technologies!

Woah! Slow down Tubby

you're not on the moon yet

:D

where,

anywhere, at any time, did you ever get the impression that they weren't universally reviled?

the prequels?

no i'm pretty certain that common concenus is that they're all rather awful.

although i'll contest that the last one is actually okay if you think of it as a geeky comic book fan fiction type adventure. plus it has a really great lolsome NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

That is quite a lollercaust-esque ending. Vader very nearly sounds German in "Revenge of the Sith". In my opinion. Not that i'm saying a German Sith lord is a bad thing of course.

No!

Not by a billion light years - now go away and think of something original to say.

no you're not

but then I think the whole lot of them are bobbins.

There I said it.

it's not awful

but it's shit compared to the original ( and only ) trilogy !

There is only one STAR WARS TRILOGY

Forget the prequels, they were soulless money grabbing blockbusters from the skewed mind of George Lucas.
Don't mention the original films in the same breath!

So

am i right in thinking that no-ones a giant fan of the more recent stuff then? Good, well, thats all i really needed to establish.

What do people think of the first trilogy? Cos personally, its still a little bit shit.

Well... (and I discuss the original cinema versions now)

Return of the Jedi is possibly worse than the best stuff from the prequel trilogy but that might be overfamiliarity breeding contempt.

The original Star Wars is really quite slow when you see it now and unexciting. Still has some good moments but yet again seen it so many times...

Empire Strikes Back I still think is one of the true greats of cinema. Not of acting or of dialogue necessarily, but as a great paced piece of writing and a fairly original story arc, and an example of what cinema can do that book or a TV show can't, it's really up there.

first two - jolly good romp

third one - a bit shit but hey nostalgia
prequels - awful.

"but that might be overfamiliarity breeding contempt."

no, that would be the ewoks. and the way it basically recycles the plot of the first film. and the ewoks. did i mention the ewoks?

Why do you think you are in the minority?

The whole world, bar Lucas thinks that??

i find few things funnier

than people who decry the prequel trilogy as soulless, money-grabbing rubbish but hold the original trilogy up as.. well.. not that.

Finse

I was on a train between Oslo and Bergen the other day and we passed a town called Finse.

Finse is the place that Lucas used to shoot the opening scenes of Empire Strikes Back on the planet 'Hoth', so there was moderate excitement in the ranks.

Then, when I arrived in Bergen, I met with a man who had a voice activated R2D2 [R2 was able to 'go on patrol', 'play message' and enter 'game mode' during which he would 'party' to the sound of that song played in the bar scene, by those dudes with the long snouts, during Return of The Jedi]. Sometimes R2 would refuse instructions and shake his head. The man - his name was Vegard - had to tap him on the top of the head to get him to listen.

Additionally [I'm almost done], Vegard said his old man had been an extra on Hoth.
