I'm going to see this tonight at the Carling Academy.
I've seen CSS before at Connect and they weren't that good. Here's hoping their one form tonight.
Thoughts on the support please. Any good?

both supports will be better
but CSS are surpisingly entertaining live. Nowadays anyway. They seem to have started actually rehearsing.
If Justice do their proper set as opposed to some DJ rubbish then they'll be great.
Metronomy are always entertaining.
You HAVE to see Justice
Don't know if they're good live, but the album's amazing.
Metronomy are proper good.. You shall enjoy...
I've been a fan of theirs for awhile (discovering them, ironically, through a lot of their remixes) but have seen them live and think there will be even bigger things instore for them in 2008!
Justice - shit live.
where'dyou asee Justice?
they were amazing at the album launch and then shit at Dour. Also, check out the band in my thread, they're a bit like a souped-up Metronomy on crack.
metronomy signed to a major recently didnt they?
hence this tour, the kate nash tour, and probably countless re-issues of singles. But they deserve it. Cant believe You Could Easily Have Me didnt make them as big as Justice/SMD etc last year.
I saw Justice at Koko and was bitterly disappointed with the show..
It honestly was just like two guys playing their iTunes on laptop... compare that to say, Digitalism's show at Kings College where you could see the real production skills at work - live - yes - fucking great - well, I know who wins.
*was disappointed with Justice BEFORE I saw Digitalism. I left Koko feeling ripped off.
Whilst I don't think they're 'shit'
I'd definitely agree that they're completely underwhelming live. Saw them the first time, really enjoyed it. The second time was pretty much the same thing, and so nowhere near as impressive. The third time was totally meh
I'm not sure...
exactly what you were expecting, though, as live dance music generally looks like 2 guys playing iTunes on their laptop.
On the contrary...
see point about Digitalism in this thread. A very different beast altogether. I thought Justice would have been a lot more involved.
Generally...
though, it's a couple of people tweaking knobs on racks/midi controllers. There are exceptions, but bands that play dance music with real instruments are generally dogshit, and it's usually not really possible to recreate the music by actually playing it. I think Justice do all they can do in the context of their music. They obviously get into what they're doing, rather than standing stock still in front of a couple of MIDI controllers, and they have a visually good stage setup. I'd rather that than a compromised set with them attempting to play things on keyboards, or replacing parts with guitars or whatever.
Production-wise, Digitalism's stuff is much more simple. I'm not sure what their live performance consists of, but it's much more suited to actual live playing. There isn't the all over the place funk basslines and razorcut edits that would be nigh on impossible to recreate live.
Seen Metronomy
they were ace.
How are Justice supporting CSS?
That just seems... stupid
It'll probably be the wrong atmosphere for them, unless they do a cool DJ set. Metronomy should be pretty great. Can't wait for the new album
the DJ sets are poor!
actually, theyre alright, but all those Edbanger type affairs annoy me as they seem like a big group wankathon. I'd much rather have a Justice playing Justice set than Justice and Busy P and Uffie play Dandy Warhols looking like a bunch of yuppie scene victims
ANGEEEER
Well, Justice usually play a pretty varied set
Sure, they've done a lot of Ed Banger-heavy stuff, as they're bound to do. But I've got plenty of mixes of theirs that touch on a massive range of genres, and don't sit still for two seconds
No doubt their upcoming Fabric comp will continue in this vein. I'm pretty sure that whole 'electro banger' movement is dwindling now
I love a load of the Ed Banger stuff
but (going against what I just said in the class thread) there's something so yuppie trust fund set about a lot of it that pisses me off immensely. Most of this anger is probably directed at Uffie and those around her.
Yeah... Ed Banger was very summer 2005 for me...
and this summer a tiny bit.
And believe me when I say I prefer the harder side of electro... stuff that most people would leave a room because of (fun looking around and checking out who is left)..
When's the Fabric thing? I haven't been to Fabric for aaaaages. I really should go. Hmm.
* and summer 2004, and 2003, and going way back, funnily
to about 1998...
They will come back - I predict the Ed Banger marketing machine shall not sink.. It needs to reinvent itself and that is what the savvy French shall do.
I'm going to this
in Birmingham on Friday. Should be good, especially if we manage to get the train back and don't get stuck in Brum all night.
Saw Metronomy support Foals in Brighton
They stole the show in my opinion.
Black Eye/Burnt Thumb is beyond sick.
justice
are exciting live, if you're into it so much that you can forgive their mixing.
css, not worth it, get out early to skip the queue at the cloakroom!
ps to rose kitten- digitalism, ahhh now there's a good band to see live!!!
So I've just got back...
Missed the start of Metronomy but they were pretty damn good, I liked then.
Justice popped up next and wow, what a show! That's the first time I've heard any of their stuff and it was brilliant. I was basically a DJ set but I assume all the tunes were of their making. Great set!
CSS, Hmmm. They really disappointed me at Connect and again tonight they didn't deliver. Probably one of the worst live bands I've seen. There are keys parts to songs that aren't audible, maybe this is just down to the sound guy/mixer but still.
Also...Lovefoxxxx.Hmmmm.
CSS...
work much better as a sloppy but enthusiastic band in a small venue. I saw them in Dingwalls last year and they were astounding, but every time I've seen them since, in 1000+ capacity venues, something was missing.
Justice's set is somewhere between an Ableton DJ set and a live electronica set.
Agree
Similar disappointment with CSS, but I still love their tracks recorded. Uhuh Metrono. were good! Their new vid is equally as good- http://www.because.tv/public/metronomy/my-heart-rate-rapid_high.wmv
Metronomy pulled out of Notts
we get rubbish tinsletown.
metronomy vote
vote for Metronomy then... http://www.bbc.co.uk/lilyallen/ and we can all see them play
if you have digital tv that is
CSS
were fuckin awful at connect innit
I'm going to try and start a revolution on Saturday
and get everyone to leave for weareTHEPHYSICS!
first time i saw metronomy...
klaxons were supporting at the camden barfly. Metronomy were amazing though, i hadn't seen anything like that before, everyone was going nuts and "singing" along, or rather going "da da der der da der der der" and all that.
^ this
i was there, metronomy were really impressive that night, everytime ive seen them since ive fealt a bit let down by them
