the thread about games that have been turned into films reminded me of so many games that i loved and had almost forgotten about.
here are some i've just remembered (looking at screenshots of the games on the internet brings memories of being 8 flooding back)
frankie goes to hollywood - amstrad (i was so scared of the murder scene)
loom
alone in the dark
head over heals (amstrad)
dizzy (that egg)
castle wolfenstein
wwf on the amstrad
some driving game where you gained money for wins and bought new cars etc. i remember oil slicks. what was it called?
cobra
a platform shooter game on the amstrad where you had to kill strange enemies and you had varying odd weapons like frisbees, boomerangs etc. the boss on the first level was huge i remember
what others can you remember???
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
built in to the Master System 2
what a game!!!
literally, minutes of fun.
Old NHL games on Snes Magadrive etc > pretty much everything
NHL 94
oh yes.
I can't get into the new ones as much
could be an age thing, could be that they're no where near as good
im with you
especially concerning the final fantasy series. they stopped being AWESOME after 7. eight is still great, but seven is AWESOME. the others are meh.
for sure
but don't forget FF 1-6. They were pretty shit-hot too.
(on a side note, what was FFX-2 all about? Bit of interactive porn if you ask me)
^ wholeheartedly concur
I love those games. I like the way you can line someone up and then TAKE THEM OUT.
I've got it on my computer through an emulator.
awesomeness
I used to score a shit load when facing down, because whenever you skated behind the goal the keeper would get stuck.
nhl on the megadrive
canada are just alot better than everyone else.
even italy.
italy ffs.
i had
a very budget version of short cicuit too!!
Commander Keen
Rules everything, especially that big fish thing in the well level that also appears in an Easter Egg in Anachronox.
...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dopefish
yes!
i love commander keen! strangely enough i was having a conversation about it with someone at the weekend.
monkey island is the greatest of all games.
king's quest.
does anyone remember a mickey mouse game for the megadrive? it was pretty cool. there was an underwater level and one about alice in wonderland. can't remember what it was called though.
Commander Keen! Oof!
CK was the nads!!! I was talking about that to friends a couple of weeks back, weird...
I think you mean Mickey Mania? Or Mickey and Donald's World of Illusion?
world of illusion
that was it! it was brill.
monkey island is still the best though. it's sad actually, when i played it recently i got stuck and just looked up the next move on the net. makes me nostalgic for the days when, if you got stuck, you were stuck. until you unstuck yourself! my brother was always really good at it so i just used to copy him.
wolfenstein 3d was clearly superior
this thread makes me want to set up my mastersystem2 (alex kidd in miracle world built in!)
ultima rpgs that were nearly impossible even though you couldn't properly be killed.
LOOM!
good call. um, yeah, i'm otherwise too young.
Y'all too young to remember
Elite, Repton, Citadel, etc. on the BBC Basic. Awesome.
I do
<sniff>
Elite: best thing ever
in fact
I have a copy of it for BBC....sad but true
oregon trail
anyone else remember that? your whole family would die of tuberculosis or something.
i used to love the dizzy games
i think you can play them on the internet now. Also

manic miner
International karate plus
renegade
double dragon
strider
super sprint
outrun

i've been clearing out my old room at my parents house today
and I found a bag with a load of Amstrad games in it. Reckon these would sell on ebay?

The Untouchables
Wrestlemania
Batman
F-15 Strike Eagle
Combat School
Enouro Racer
Gostbusters 2
Bad Dudes vs. Dragonninja
Operation Wolf
1942
Football Manager 2 (the amount of hours i spent playing this despite results being seemingly entirely random!)
Man these are some classic games!
I remember I spent 12 hours programming my own game once on the start screen, which basically amounted to a little guy walking across the screen and jumping over about 5 things.
Those were the days!
making your own games
was amazing. I remember they used to print code in the magazines that you could type out to make a game. It used to take forever though becuase you'd miss a full stop or something and it wouldnt work.
Also equally frustrating was waiting 30mins for the game to load, only for your computer to crash
^This here^
I'll buy the lot off you!
Ecco The Dolphin
Classic.
Police Quest
How to be a complete bastard
Road Rash
Toe Jam And Earl
Top Gear
Chase HQ
Paperboy
toe jam and earl
and paperboy rocked
I had Ecco
and was just crap at it. Never worked out what I was meant to do with it. I stuck to FIFA, Sonic and Comix Zone!
Ballz was cool too.
Comix Zone was ace
Though I never remember completing it. In fact the only game I remember completing when I was 7 was Sonic 1 on the mega drive. Good times.
Altered Beast
James Pond
Big Nose : The Caveman
World Cup Italia '90
ALL NHL games on the mega drive
Super Mario World (snes)
Golden Axe
Moonwalker (seriously)
Haha Police Quest!
Amazing. I remember arresting someone and not knowing what to type for hours and hours, until I realised I had to tell him to "lie down."
Beneath A Steel Sky
Monkey Island 1 and 2
Sword of Sodan
Robocod (I know it's already been mentioned but it was brilliant)
Stunt Car Racer
^beautiful^

robocod!
wow i had forgotten about that one!
WOLFENSTEIN 3D!!!!!
I loved that game. Also:

Stonekeep - best game ever.
Duke Nukem 3D
Repton 2
Codename: Droid (on my old BBCB computer, tape-loading fun!)
Dungeon Keeper
Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. Sick as fuck.
Jedi Knight was so ace
I loved some of the levels on that, they were huge. Though using 'force pull' to steal everyone's weapons was a bit of a copout.
I wish they'd make a new version.
pong.
Lemmings (1,2 and 3)
were/are awesome.
SHADOW OF THE BEAST
^^YES!!!!^^
great music, and the guy that designed Yes' album covers.
What else do you need?

I spent a Summer on that when i was younger.

etc.
sam & max

Seconded!
The new Sam & Max games are brilliant too. Fucking hilarious stuff.
I miss all the old graphic adventures
good that there's some new sam and max stuff.
Someone should convert all the old lucasarts games for the DS.. that would be awesome.
Chuckie Egg
Bubble Bobble
Rainbow Islands
Nebulus! I remembered that one the other day - guide a weird frog thing with a tail around a rotating tower. Utter genius.
If anyone can tell me
how to complete the last level of Super Hunchback on the gameboy, I'll do pretty much anything.

SensibleWorld of Soccer
is coming out on Xbox live soon. I for one am excited.
Little Big Adventure!
.. and Little Big Adventure 2!
Dizzy!
Dizzy was amazing. He always made me laugh when he fell from a great height and walked backwards for a bit.
Klax was good, anyone remember that? Sagaia?
Repton
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repton_%28computer_game%29
incredible game, top music too!
Yes!
I don't remember the music but the game was immensely addictive.
New Zealand Story was ace!
knock adguys off their flying surf board things and then jump on yourself! amazing!
when you stayed underwater too long
it drowned the bird. the way it flapped around immediately before death was really disturbing.
How old you mean?
I was a late comer to the C64 when I was 6 (in 93). My Dad got it second hand off a mate and I literally had about 1000 games for it. The only problem if I try and recall was it took ages to load up or something?
I liked the Ghostbusters game on it, and "Winnie The Witch" or something.
STREETS OF RAGE 2
That game is too cool.
^^watch the game ending on youtube
I did earlier and it brought it all back. The credit music is pretty and a real seratonin waltzer.
Leisure Suit Larry
it was the 'grand theft auto' of its day. but sort of not.
Mmm
NBA Jam (megadrive)
Sensible World of Soccer (PC)
Jet Set Willy (Amstrad CPC - on tape, booya)
Gary Linekar's Superstar Soccer (Amstrad)
Daley Thompson's Decathlon (Amstrad)
Honorable mention as above to Robocod. The first and only game to make me throw up, having playing it for 10 hours straight when my family got a new PC.
Panza Kickboxing on the Amiga!
Best fighting game ever, even in the future!

Bubble Bobble on the master system II. fuck yeah. hours and hours of my youth spent on that!
QUESTION
The Advantage and Minibosses don't do pokemon covers. Who does?
...
Gunstar Heroes was, and shall forever remain, the greatest video gaming experience of all time. Fact.
