I read Fight Club back when the film came out, it was ok. Was wondering what other novels of his people would recommend? I'm thinking Diary, or Choke.
Cheers

Choke
Yes.
I may be on my own here
But I really enjoyed Haunted
Choke
is ace. So is Lullaby.
I just finished Haunted...
Which was good. Essentially a set of 23 or so short horror stories... Very good.
Prols my fav author and that. See also: Choke, Lullaby and Diary. Not had chance to read his latest yet...
Thanks
I've heard Choke and the few novels after Fight Club have a similar narrator as Fight Club, so may give Diary and Haunted a read. Though I'd quite like to read Choke as there's a film thats been completed (premiering at Sundance). Partial to book/film comparisons. Cheers all!
Yep!
Sam Rockwell as the lead as well... Good casting decision...
I enjoyed
Survivor and Invisible Monsters but both were flawed in minor ways
DON'T READ DIARY!!!
His endings are always a bit iffy but Diary's ending is fucking TERRIBLE!
You feel cheated for having read everything up to that point!
Thought Survivor was a bit meh
So didn't read anything else of his.
Unconvinced
Fight Club was great (though thought film actually improved on it, which is rare). Wasn't impressed by Haunted - the poetry is pissing awful and most of the stories use weak, unbelievable shock tactics. And the idea that a 12yr old boy (with an ageing disease) could engineer the whole plan? Balls, Chuck. Balls.
Conversely though, the first tale (Guts) is appalling and completely brilliant.
me too..
I read Haunted first, enjoyed it, then read Survivor and that put me off him.
read
haunted. it is definitely his best work. the short stories are just GENIUS.
i liked that one with the woman with her jaw shot off
i am jack's complete lack of surprise
Fight Club is his best, but Haunted is pretty good, as is Choke. I really liked Lullaby when i first read it, but it didnt hold up to well on the second read. Diary was an interesting failure, as is his latest, Rant... whatever he does it's always interesting and packed with wit and invention. He crams more ideas into one chapter than most hacks do into one book. Check out his website too, he has loads of cool writing tips.
I thought Haunted was amazing
I then read Choke and it was incredibly dull. I've been meaning to get started on Diary for a while now. Need I bother rushing to it?
diary
wasn't so sure about his latter efforts. Really enjoyed, Fight Club, Survivor & Invisible Monsters. Must re-read Choke again before the film. If Diary is the one with the fire ending then I was disappointed with it.
diary-ah
twas disappointing. but it was still brimming with piss and vinegar. it's worth a squirt if only for it's take on modern art. otherwise, it's all a bit weird. read haunted! It has one of the best short stories ever written in it - Guts.
Survivor
Used to be my favourite book ever, I think I loved Chuck a lot more before I started reading Easton Ellis novels, now I can't help but think of him as a kind of wackier, more childish version. Having said that I still love every single one of his novels and think he's easily one of the smartest people writing today.
glamorama
i didn't really get that one at all - i don't suppose you know what that was all about?... i loved psycho when i was 16, but it hasnt aged too well. rules of attraction is still cool and i thought Lunar Park was pretty fantastic... i think i had a point there somewhere, but apparently not
Choke
Lullaby
Haunted
Read it when I was 13 and it shook me up a lot, but is still one of my favourite books. I did skip the poems though, because they weren't really that good, but the story linking the shorts is strong and the ending is INCREDIBLE.
I've only read Survivor and Diary of the others, and agree with everyone about the ending of Diary. I was left with a WTF feeling for days afterwards and not in a good way.
i don't like chuck palahniuk
Fight Club - the best
Invisible Monsters - ace
Choke - didn't enjoy.
