or more specifically, mpeg to mp3. Is there any program which I can get for free to do this? I'm basically really cheap and not willing to buy spend £20 for this.

If you put the video into Windows Movie Maker then you can unlink the audio from the video then just delete the video channel. If you then just save it as a movie file this will leave you with just the audio. It will be.wma though, you can download a program called switch to conert it to .mp3. Here's a link for it.

i had no idea it was so easy to convert youtube videos to mp3! why have i never investigated this before? because i am stupid. that is why.
Freecorder
is the easiest to use. It becomes part of the toolbar and you can hit record and stop for whatever sounds are happening when you are using that particular browser.
