he dresses like a twat, almost everything he says is complete drivel and i'm sure he's probably a complete cunt in real life but on the rare occasions he is funny he can excellent.
the way he seemed to really get under jack dees skin on have i got news for you was particularly entertaining. dee clearly couldn't stand being in the same room as him.

That HIGNFY

was excellent.

I thought Ian Hislop

seemed to dislike him more than Dee. Good episode, though. I didn't realise quite how sleazy Russell Brand is until now.

anyone see russel brand on that dawn french programme?

i think he is seen as a cock because he has some definite mental health problems. i've got way more time for him now because he seemed to be thoughtful and intelligent and i felta bit sorry for him. although he was dressed like a twat ....

As Rob Brydon said

does he only have one set of clothes?

hislop seemed to have a bit of laugh with it

dee just started to stew and huff

i think jack dee was playing on it

he does have a dark and moody personna to keep up

Cue loads of girls posting and saying

LEAVE HIM ALONE HE'S LOVELEEEEEEEE!!!!

Britain's Unfunniest Man

I was hoping Charlie Brooker would punch him or something on HIGNFY

LOL

hilarious!

All of Charlie Brooker's bit

must've been edited out. He said fuck all. What he did say was near gold every time though =D

Your seeing only the Russell presented by the media

Watch 'Russell Brand On The Road' on wednesday BBC Four at 9pm. Its a programme where he travells across america following the journey of jack kerouak in his novel 'on the road'. You'll see the proper russell i assue you. Plus, he's doing it with MATT MORGAN!

'on the road' is shit

and so is russell brand.

I never normally agree with you

but this is undeniably true

it just seems like the exact dort of thing a cunt would do,

follow jack kerouoac's 'on the road'.
note to russell brand: nobody gives a shit. it would be more "wild" or "wacky" to follow the journey of frodo baggins to mordor.

He Really

Isn't funny, he just makes observations about everyday life and tries to make jokes about them, the 'ol "it's funny cos it's true", like everyone does with their mates down the pub.
I've got mates alot funnier than Brand and they don't wear stupid clothes or back comb the back of their hair for a gimmick.
I've got a friend that loves him and is always trying to get me to watch his stuff, I've tried to like it and be open minded but he hasn't made me chuckle once and ultimately just irritates.

...

"he just makes observations about everyday life and tries to make jokes about them"

god forbid.

i have no feelings toward russll brand

but how exactly is on the road shit?

IT'S A 'BLOKE'S BOOK'

apparently.

on the road

sounds interesting, perhaps i'll tune in

Who's Matt Morgan?

If he's the Jonathan Wilkes of the Russell Brand, er, brand, people will die.

he is a wrestler

innit?

and a bloody

awful one at that

I LOVE

MATT MORGAN

twas a good HIGNFY

It's always good when everyone hates one another, that's why it was so good with Angus Deayton.

I love him

He's brilliant.
If you listen to his radio show it really shows you his best side. He has a beyond brotherly relationship with his co-host (they done a threesome together...Woah), he is much MUCH funnier when he's being spontaneous on the radio than his planned stand up stuff, and he just comes across as extremely endearing and loving, despite getting swept away by shagging people at times.

And he loves morrissey.

i just think it's a sad sign of the times when

an intelligent and well-spoken celebrity is thought of as a bit leftfield. i don't find him particularly funny, but it's nice to hear words i've never heard before.

.....

the whole thing about him being dickensian and thesaurus-eating is basically made up. He isnt particularly intelligent in a "stephen fry" sense, but he is generally really idealistic and enthusiastic about his ideals and pursues them.

He also has funny anecdotes about being on drugs. Which are always funny. For some reason.

i'm not sure

his diction is generally quite superb. i'd genuinely love to see him and Stephen Fry just sat there, talking about random goings-on, Smith & Jones style.

I like that he was generally

looking for fame well before he became a stand-up, even to the extent of getting oiled up in the 90's to audition for boybands...

I like him

He's good. This is just typical backlash. TYPICAL. BACKLASH.

i think it's probably because

dullards think he's middle-class because he knows some eleven letter words.

he gets laid, a lot.

he gets paid a hall of a lot of money for basically just talking about himself.

He just thinks he's better than he is

the on the road things a pretty good example.

Why is that thinking he's better than he is?

He genuinly is interested in beat stuff, and jack kerouac. Why shouldnt he be allowed to make a program about it? And obviously it's not just him talking about the book. It's not as if he thinks he has the authority to cover a hugely famous book

*

it's not as if he thinks he has the authority to cover a hugely famous book, conclusively.

I just get the impression

that he learns loads of famous "intellectual" literary and philosophical stuff for show. I'm not any brand aficionado i've seen him on the big brother thing and in interviews and stuff and i've never heard him say anything intelligent or particularly interesting.

That's just me judging him though.

watch re:brand

nazi boy. he comes across as intelligent in that i think.

Yeah

they're all on youtube, just search "re:brand". The way he confronts him at the end after trying to reason with him to whole time is brilliant.

The one where he wanks off a guy in a toilet is also pretty good, if just for that bit. And the one where he let the homeless guy stay in his house for a week or however long it was. Quite interesting finding that the homeless guy preffered the streets (not because brands house was shit...)

Yeah i thought it made a really good point

about people like the subject, they just couldnt handle reasoned debate.

I probably can't be bothered

I don't dislike him. Everyone's annoying one way or another. Its just that people who try hard to do anything which isn't what i'd call worthwhile kind of irratate me.

Yeah he does do that

as I said, he's not got any particularly interesting views, but his lust for life and the way he experiences stuff is brilliant.
And besides, regardless of his reasons, hes still learned all that stuff which is good.

He's cool

But aye, he dresses like a twat, and most proper comedians are probably funnier.

I dont find him particularly funny

when he's trying to be. That's not the point of him.

BBC 4 just now

Russel Brand interview

He's coming off as the very brilliant person he is.

Last week (or the week before?)

on his Radio 2 show, he was having a discussion with Richard Dawkins about the God Delusion book, and he was funny as fuck, and made some really poignant points. He's crap when he's working within the limitations of something like Big Brother's Little Brother, but left to his own devices, I think he's great. Although I wouldn't buy it, "My Booky Wook" is the only celeb autobiog that I'd vaguely want to read.

Used to hate him

got over it now. He's alright. It's not like he's one of those louches off Loose Women, is one of Richard or Judy, or is a berk of a Blue Peter presenter. What do you WANT from him?! :p

Was Jack Dee annoyed?

I thought that was his thing, to be annoyed with everything, surely its just in keeping with character

Paul Merton

looked more irritated to me.

melodrama?

I thought the others looked bemused but hardly angry. Great tv though - I wouldn't have watched the programme if it hadn't been for this thread, so thanks. RB was also pretty good value on the Culture Show this weekend..

I used to think he was rubbish

but then I listened to the radio show he does and it's actually really, really funny.

HIGNFY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fvAbw0I-AY

Special webisode with Russell Brand and the brilliant Charlie Brooker.

It was excellent

I haven't really seen him on much before, even though he is supposedly on everything and from what I heard I expected to hate him. I thought he was very good on there and played up to a character very well. Still not as good as King Charlie though.

Overkill

Brand now is like the track you love when you hear it for the first time but gets that much airplay it starts to knock you sick every time you hear it.
If he was vinyl i'd have smashed it into bits ages ago.
Come in Brand your time is up.

Russel Brand...

on HIGNFY and Dawn French was good, but did you see him on The Royal Variety Performance?? Criticising the idea of social hierarchy and perving on Zara!

Cracking stuff.

he's a cunt

but that's just my opinion.

what a knob

but i have to say his comeback to bob geldof was pretty excellent.

used to hate him

but now think he's hilarious, mainly due to his radio show with Matt Morgan. Missed HIGNFY but will view it on Youtube thanks to this thread. Him saying that he shuts his eyes when licking a stamp in front of the Queen at the RVP was funny. Just needs to flatten that hairdo a touch. Oh yeah, what about him and Noel Fielding on the Big Fat Quiz last year. Genius.....(but Fielding was better)

frank spencer

i thought he was a lot like frank spencer on HIGNFY - kept expecting him to say 'ooh betty'. yesterdays sunday times review of his booky wook led me to laugh out loud several times.

What was his comeback to Bob Geldof?
