Where did everyone disappear to? Where did all the good music go??
Did anyone actually remain conscious through the dull drone of earth, sun o))) or team brick?
even DJ Declan let me down.

Was i just being naively hopefully that my world could rock for 3 night's in a row?

yes

all four of those acts were fucking fantastic

sunday was amazing.

you obviously didnt hear team brick if you thought he was dull or indeed drone.

it did empty out though by the evening, not too packed for aphex... jaks empty, but crazy horse still had some of the faithful dancing it up.

maybe you're just no fun?

no fun at all

humpf. may be i should have given the bands longer than 30 seconds to impress. although by the sounds of it i would have been waiting 30 mins for sun o)) and the tree man to do much. (i even left for the fire alarm - was way too sober / hung over).

conclusion = me no fun

mmm yeh 30 seconds

is never a good idea. i liked the fire alarm. it was as if the entire butlins staff were terrified of the oncoming onslaught and wanted everyone to escape... like an end of the world scenario with sunn as the horsemen of the apocalypse :D

I just sat at the back

with my friends, going 'Is this part of the set? I like this. They didn't do this last time. Oh no, is it some kind of siren? It fits quite well'. Were we actually supposed to leave?

i think so...

they shut the bars for a minute or two...

Sunday was incredible

did you not see Boris?!

Boris are

lame

did you not even like

the giant gong? for shame.

he wasnt there

he smells of wee.

boris

sat thru entire hour of boris.
fell in to coma.

this is the boris

playing uber hardcore sabbath/motorhead rock action with gongs you're talking about yes?

no

must have been the other Boris - the mindless, monotonous, boring Boris - that i was watching.
the whole of the back of Centre was in a coma too (or is lying on the floor with your eyes shut how one appreciates Boris? probably is.)

i suspect you're confusing

Boris with Earth. one is a japanese rock trio, the other an american instrumental doom band with a western twist: rye cooder on downers. which i personally enjoy very much.

Argh!

I am! I actually liked Boris! The japanese dudes were great. tiny people, making huge noise.
i was in an earth coma - must have fucked with my memory!

:D

yay for Boris!

exactly

I can see that people might not like Boris, but you couldn't describe them as monotonous!

I think they're monotonous.

And no, I'm not confusing them with anyone. And yes, I have seen them live.

if you think Boris are monotonous

then you've never seen Earth or Sun O))!!

Sunday was no Saturday

But, John Cooper Clarke, Boris, Mad Lib (granted, patchy) and Aphex Twin were amazing.

The last ten minutes of Aphex were insane. No disappointment to be had.

It had to follow the Dirty Three weekend, so it was always going to be a little bit of a let down, but it stood up pretty well.

Madlib = wrong stage

Just lost it in the biggest room.

have to say

that stage was SO much better with the extra drapes up. although the sound is still a bit mushy if you're not standing past about the half way point of the crowd (though when you are near the front it was a lot better soundwise, bassier and clearer...Black Mountain's sound was perfect)

Yep...

...The Horrors: at the back it was awful; at the front, well, clearer but still horrible ;o)

Madlib... I WISH he'd been in Reds.

^ this

Wasn't on the wrong stage, just poor.

agreed

he cliched it up sadly

It was weird.

Going to see hip-hop is sucha gamble live, sometimes there's like a million shit hypemen and the star doesn't turn up till like 20 minutes in, usually completely battered, does a lazily delivered bars then fucks off. That was Madlib's set.

Then sometimes you the star raps flawlessly from beginning to end, the soundsystem reaches awesome chest vibrating levels and energy levels (in the crowd & on stage)are hype as fuck. Which is what GZA almost was had the soundsystem not kept cutting out and people did more than head bop.

By Sunday

loads of people do seem to leave. It's been like that every time I've been. The first time it happened I thought there must be a big beach party that I don't know about. I've since concluded there are a lot of sad bastards who can't wait to get back to work for Monday. Urgh.

sadly yes

I had to leave in the middle of SunnO))) to drive back to London, as my gf couldn't get the Monday off work and I had two tutorials which I couldn't get out of. :(

maybe this time

a lot of people who'd gone mainly for portishead decided they didnt know anyone playing on the sunday and split? or heard 5 minutes of Sunn and decided to escape as quickly as possible?

they = bad humans.

I saw plenty of good stuff...

Boris, Aphex, Blood Island Raiders and Madlib were all really good. In fact, I saw more music on Sunday than on the previous two days.

Sunday = good

Damo Suzuki (was I the only person to see him?), Black Mountain and Aphex Twin all were great. Oren Ambarchi was supposedly great as well but I was too hungover to see him.

I AM

Damo Suzuki.

Sunday was great fun

and I found a chalet party that was still going on when we checked out at 10am

I'm not sure if I liked Team Brick

but he definitely wasn't dull...

what happened

after the chanting and bashing the drum?
immediately thought teenager doing pretentious nonsense and left the building.
admit i should have tried harder..

he will...

be pleased that you thought he was a teenager.

heh

I thought the Saturday was well patchy after the GZA, Sunday was perfect (except Boris's horribly one-dimensional set).

Sunn o))) were astonishing.. they didn't get dull for a second for me. Some achievement to play for that long in that form and to not sag.

Earth were the right kind of plod too. After a heavy Friday night which made me take most of Saturday to recover, Sunnday dronefest was just the ticket. And the Aphex finale? Superb.

Sunday was great!

I don't get Boris either though. Yet again they were really cheesy and boring. Why do people like them? They have nice amps I suppose.
