What a nice man! And what a great crowd! Proof that everyone loves a singalong.

Am a little sad that my Ultimate Run of Gigs (Mountain Goats - Okkervil River - Jens Lekman) is now over though :(

Yes

I did that run too, but i really wish the Luminaire could get the gigs to run on time. I always seem to miss the end of sets there in order to catch the last tube.

yeah

I was a bit annoyed at the late-running of the bands (I blame the first band, who bored me also, so didn't win any love from me).

Jens was amazing, and the encore was brilliant fun. Would've loved for the set to be twice as long- really happy that the crowd were so responsive, Jens really looked like he was loving it also. & I got a story from him after, hurrah.

.

Excellent stuff from Jens, he looked so happy to have a responsive audience

And what a pleasant surprise to find the Clientele supporting – although they weren’t so big on the chit chat!

don't diss the indie promoters

Jens was amazing - best gig of 2007 easily. We saw him at Accelerator in Stockholm in July with his full band / samples but I prefer the intimate pared down version we got on Tuesday night.

As for the promoters, I think it's a bit unfair to diss Track & Field. Over the past seven years they've had so many great bands play their shows - Of Montreal, The Shins, The Rapture, Devendra etc etc. Their gigs and club nights (now sadly discontinued) are always really friendly. And it's probably part of the T&F ethos to give another band the opportunity to play...

Personally I'd rather have things running a bit later as I always end up missing the beginning of bands because I have to wait for the babysitter to arrive. And I found it dead easy to get home - there's a cab office round the corner and we all shared a cab home...

No I'd MUCH rather give T&F my pennies than the likes of Live Nation...

Absolutely brilliant

though if I didn't live across the road I would be upset as I has an interview at 9am today.

The encore was great, the crowd was excellent. Just a brilliant show

I met a lovely girl at the end too : )

!

!!

Jens was brilliant

Too bad the sound was HORRIBLE for Clientele. The vocals were impossible to hear and the violinist/pianist/supermodel didn’t even sound like she was wired up at all.

A really, really great show but I was really ticked off about the organisation. Spent most of Jens' set worrying about how I was going to get home. Did we really need that shite opening act? They should have been ditched, Jens given another 30 minutes and then everyone would still have got out for the last tube. It's fine finishing up a gig at 11.45 if it's in Soho and everyone can get home easily. But this is Kilburn. Getting across London is a nightmare at that time of night. Promoter needs a kick in the balls. Bring on ATP.

I think its

more a Luminaire thing than the promoters, I've rarely seen a gig finish earlier than 11:30 there

Okkervil River

did on Monday

(I'm not picking holes!)

In general, I like the way the Luminaire is run. I appreciate that they want people to shut the hell up during shows. If you look on their FAQ page, they are very defensive when it comes to their location (at one point explaining in geographic detail how their venue is only 6 feet farther north from the city centre than some other popular venue). But if they realize that their location is a liability, why not tailor the shows to make going home easier (ie. start on time if you’re going to have three bands) and then people won’t complain about the non-central location.

^

Exactly. It's a cool venue, i really like it. Just finish a little earlier and don't over-fill the bill with redundant support acts, i say.

the second point certainly

it

really isn't that far out though

I agree

it's the same as me bitching about how far bardens is from me (hanger lane-ish). so kilburn is pretty nice for me but lamecore pulic transport wise.
Anyway it's amazing how quiet the luminaire was and it was a great gig.

Bardens

is fine if the overground train is still running, which of course it isn't

It is a lovely venue

But starting a headliner at 10:30 is daft even for a venue that doesn't rely on the crappy Jubilee Line.
It's the first time I've been there when it's felt over-full as opposed to just right for a sold-out show.
Maybe that was to do with the selfish tit in the middle of the crowd who was not only pointlessly tall but also kept his hat on throughout. If that man is any of you...shame on you.
Are The Clientele usually any cop? That was the first time I saw them and they were rotten. Fair enough if it was ropey sound.

It wasn't me

but I had an equally tall idiot in front of me if it's any consolation

The Clientele were terrible

well

maybe I should go back there instead of avoiding it. Anyway back to Jens - nice write up at http://tinyurl.com/2va6vt and I liked his embroided shirt.

Past your bedtime?

C’mon people. I think you’re protesting too much. How many of us are stranded in London if an event ends at 11.45? I had to get back to the depths of South London but the tubes run late and there are trains after midnight. If the band’s good enough, the sleepiness the next day is more than justified and we saw one of the best shows of the year on Tuesday. Now try getting home from Bardens Boudoir after a gig…

And Luminaire, don’t restrict the number of bands. More bands = more chances to hear something new and brilliant. Of course things will get delayed and everyone who’s not under some Cinderella curse recognises that.

as i'm nice,

i put some jens up here:

marvelous!

thank you nice Jamie :)

: (

And I paid you a complement and everything

Aye...

You make fair points.

Earlier this year, we took the decision to - wherever possible - only run with two band bills when we're promoting a show, particularly on shows where we know the headliner will play for a long time and will want an encore or two. Sundays are in our thoughts particularly because it's a school night and because public transport stops earlier.

When we hire the room to promoters, we've been gradually encouraging them to work with two bands, rather than three, but if a promoter thinks he needs three bands, then we just then do what we can to keep things running smoothly. This show wasn't our own promotion, so we didn't book the bill.

Anyone who's been involved in shows knows that there are a hundred reasons that can cause things to overrun, and most of these involve the members of the bands themselves. Sometimes we end up telling bands 3, 4 times to get on stage, when they're scattered around the building or in the bar downstairs, and that can be frustrating. Generally people don't want to go on stage on time and it's not always easy to get adults to do what they don't want to do.

Ultimately though, it's our responsibility, and we're aware that it pisses people off, and we don't like it when it happens. The buck stops with me. We fucked up, and I'm sorry.

I'll be getting in touch with all the promoters who've got shows booked in the coming weeks, and pointing the audiences' frustrations out, and working with them to see that it happens as rarely as possible.

Andy, Lumi.

I wasn't at the Jens Lekman show, but this is just one of the reasons I love the Luminaire.

there

ARE many reasons

Well
