Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

It isn't? Nor is it anything to do with music.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

not that im xstraightedgex or anything, but i don't like being drunk, cos you can't control yourself and you end up being sick, also you end up spending all your hard earned cash on stuff that isnt cds.

I like to have a glass of wine now and then, and a lager with some dry roasted peanuts. Nothing too excessive though.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

because it turns shy indie boys and girls into sexual tyrannosaurs?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Do they really need it ?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Yes, or at least i do...

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

It's a bit sad, no ?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Erm possibly, its basically a result of a lack of self confidence...

Fuck it, i also enjoy being drunk

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Being drunk can be good. Haven't done it since a long time now ( just feeling like an old man !)

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Thats ok.

Like i said, i enjoy being drunk as it loosens my inhibitions, i dont rely on alcohol to do that, but it can definitely be fun. And i tend to enjoy myself when im drunk...

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Coz it makes you fall over, dance to McFly and go home with a minger.....

Hmmmmm.....maybe it isnt that cool after all

*cracks open the third can of cider*

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

3 cans of cider by 11.28 in the morning...

dancing to Mcfly...

going home with a minger...

god help you you poor soul.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

It isn't cool, but it is ace. Mmmm, drunk...

It loosens the inhibitions, makes people funnier and means you can have the greasiest most disgusting food without really tasting it's shit quotient.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

exactly. thanks for making me type less Bamos.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

So it basically turns you into someone you're not, canes all your money and leaves you with a really bad headache in the morning.

Is that cool?
or do you just need help with your personalities?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

it's guilty fun, yes?

that is all.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

It doesn't turn you into someone you're not (though it'd be funny if that did happen and all your mates turned into different people...), it just let's you relax and have more fun as you get less self-conscious and whatnot.

And it doesn't always leave you feeling sore.

And because you have alot of fun, although it costs money it's worth it in the same way doing anything fun that costs money is.

Yup.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

too true. people that say that alcohol changes them that much are just bullshitting. if someone does something really cuntish when drunk then its not a bolt out of the blue, they're probably a bit of a cunt.

drinknig isn't cool, but it can be great fun, and the fact that there are millions of different types of alcohol rocks my ass. especially as i'm going to america again this summer and i'm finally 21 and will be able to drink. mahahahahaha!

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

it just makes you lose your inhibitions, it doesnt change who you are, your probably more tru to yourself when drunk in fact.

anyway if people wanna get drunk and have some fun, forge about their worthless lives etc whats wrong with that??

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

i used to think that, but I'm not so sure that's so anymore. Surely part of your character/who you are is contained in the things you think yet choose not to say for fear of offending? You can think the cuntyest things in the world in your own head, but if you don't say them cos you don't want to piss people off, then you can't be held accountable for them.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

yeh but to be honest i was talking about more extreme stuff...well actually just when people cheat on each other and say oh i was just drunk, that just seems like such bullshit to me. i cant see how alcohol can suddenly take away any scruples you might have about serious stuff anyway. maybe i'm just too big a romantic or something but its always seemed odd to me.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

'A drunk man speaks a sober man's mind'

That's my mates motto for life, as he told me just before he called me a cunt and fell through a hedge.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Whe did it become cool to be drunk? Did I miss a meeting?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

its not cool,, but some of the best times of my life have been when i was absolutely trollied!

i don't get bad hang overs which helps aswell!

the only thing is i would hate to think of the amount of monay i haven't spent on alcohol!

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Just like music which I take it we all like being drunk is a form of escapism, instead this one can be done in a social context.
Sure it brings out sides of your charecter that might not rear their ugly head but it can be revealing all the same.

I enjoy getting drunk...

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Well said tom. Life is shit. Even Freud knew it.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I enjoy getting drunk but i don't think it's cool. I don't go out for the purpose of getting drunk because a lot of the time i prefer actually socialising in an aware, honest state. I only drink based on my "sitz in leben" (sp) and don't believe it is necessary. This is partially based on people i know. They do think it is cool, but they are ridiculously decadent and nothing will last for them. They will live alone because they do think drinking is cool and that (and drugs) will priorities over people.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I have a friend who is the best bloke in the world, then when he gets drunk, he is the biggest cunt in the world, is this not a problem?

or is it just funny? ha ha ha

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

that's your mate's problem. if he knows he's a cunt, why does he drink?

the majority of people aren't cunts when drunk.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

because its cooler than being dead?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I disagree. Most people are, at least sometimes, cuntish on one level or other when drunk.

Re not drinking - it's VERY hard in this society not to ever drink and have a social life, if your friends all drink (which they do). And being sober when all your friends are drunk makes you realise just how damaging alcohol can be.

It's not big, it's not clever.

I drink.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I don't think many people actually think they're really cool because they drink. Sure people will act like twats but it's not like it's coke or something. Not exclusive enough to be 'cool' anyway. It's just something people do.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I do.

And I am.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I'm cool when I'm drunk. I jump up and down at gigs, speak to/at everybody, push past people to get to and from the bar and everybody loves it.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I wish i was drunk.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I wish you were drunk as well.

*winks suggestively*

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

*Bats eyelids*

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Well... there's a difference between 'feeling cooler when you're drunk' and 'thinking that being an alcoholic makes you cool'. By the latter I mean the sorts that are always trying to impress people with hilarious stories of how wasted they were the other night

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

to quote bukowski....when you drink the world was still out there, but for the moment it didn't have you buy the throat

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

but do you not think that there is a certain stigma attached to drinking?
As in if you don't go out at weekends getting shit-faced, then you are boring?

Is there not better things to waste your money on?
If so, what?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

There's only a stigma attached by people who have no friends or social life, or really need to lighten up a bit more. I meet my friends in pubs, I enjoy drinking, and I don't think there's any stigma whatsoever. If I'm at a gig, I'll have an alcoholic drink and relax - if I get drunk, I get drunk. If I don't, I don't. Simple. I just like having fun, and that is how I like to do it. If people want to see it as me not being able to handle the reality of life, then that's their choice. Think of me what you will, I don't really give a damn. While you debate whether I'm cool or not, I'm gonna be down the pub, watching the game, relaxing and having fun.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I don't think there's that much of a stigma to it once you get beyond the student years? Depends on your friends though, I guess. Quite normal to have a pint or two when you go out but getting shitfaced isn't a prerequisite with many is it?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

quite, I suppose once you get past the stage of trying to impress everyone then you realise that booze really isn't all that. Either you'll end up an alcoholic or you learn to moderate and do different things.

I do however think that for a lot of people (at my age too) still believe that when they go out, they DO need to get shit-faced. Understandable if you're still at college however.

And yes I am annoyed that my mates haven't grown up yet!! :)

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I don't drink and, like another post here said, am shocked at other peoples drunken states. At parties, in town, alcohol is something that has been socially acceptable in England for years.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I bet you're a laugh to go out with.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Its also possible that he doesnt drink because he cant get served...

I do love people who are all moral about drinking when they arent actually or dont look old enough to get served...

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Ah, didn't notice he was 15.

Still, I stand by what I said. At 15 I probably drunk in larger quantities than I do now (Now I drink in pubs and can only afford a few pints, whereas at 15 I'd be splitting crates and bottles of vodka with mates).

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

On friday night I fell backwards off a wall and landed on my head from 10ft.

Being drunk enabled this to happen without me experiencing an ounce of pain, and for this, I am eternally thankful to drunkness.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

but aren't you in pain now? your back must hurt, surely?
and what were you doing up a 10ft wall without a balcony/ fall-stopping device?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

One side of a wall there was a 2ft drop (hence me sitting on it), the other side there was a 10ft drop (of which I was completely unaware).

There was a bush at the bottom, which cushioned my fall, but seriously when I woke up all I had was a couple of scratches on my left arm. No lump or anything.

My head rules.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

On a simillar note, i once dislocated my knee when pissed. Not only did the alcohol cushion the pain, it also turned me into a medic, and I able to calmly relocate said knee-cap.

So drinking, good and bad in equal measures. Yay!

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I like to drink, i dont think that its cool, but i do enjoy it.

It removes some of my inhibitions which basically means that i will dance/talk to the pretty girl. Both are good things that i would regeret not doing...

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

No, i'm great to go out with. Ask my book club and accordian friends. Burn!

Maybe not.

But still, if I wanted a drink it really wouldn't be hard.

Jeez, I did sound like a tit, had a bad day sorry.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

haha, its cool.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

its good to have a drink and loosen out a bit, but i don't like being drunk . . . . .
it doesn't agree with me

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

i dnt see whats that bad about it as long as you can keep bit of control over yourself and make sure youre not dead the day after but hey least you get to say the shit out of the ppl you hate and still have an excuse it wasnt what you really meant

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

LOL, settles it, I'm getting pissed and making a list.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

For me, several friendships have been cemented over drink. Inhibitions go, which can be dodgy, but I've been lucky.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

On a related note, several of my friendships have been lost as a result of drunkness...

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Fancy a beer Thom?

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Hell, yeah :)

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

and everyone is happy :)

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Its not cool. But it is fun....

I'm a v.happy drunk. And I lose a few inhibitions which from someone as uptight as me can only be a good thing. My stomach is v.good so never am sick or dodgy tummy. I get hangovers, but they teach me not to do it too often. So definately my drug of choice.

And drinks taste nice, some do anyway. Its quite a social thing to do, sit and talk shit over a pint, or a glass of wine....

The constant trips to loo for slash are annoying mind...

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Drinking is cool as is smoking and taking drugs.

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

Amen to that my brother. It's also good getting really out of it then finding some weedy fellas (like shooting fish in a barrel at a gig) and then pushing into them so a fight starts off. Brilliant stuff

Re: Why is it cool to be drunk?

I have never drunk a drop of alcohol in my life, not through choice but for medical reasons. This has lead to me having a different perpsective of alcohol than most people. from my view I like hanging out with people who moderately drunk, but everybody has their limit, and it seems that in British culture its not a night out, unless you drink to excess. and thus people dink more than they can handle, they cheat on their partners, get off with strangers, become violent and generally twattish, throw up, fall over, and generally behave in a comedic yet pathetic manner. The problem is a lot of people think alcohol allows them to do whatever they like, as its a catch all excuse. only a few months ago some twat decided to hit me unprovoked whilst drunk, then try and get sympathy from everyone else after i battered him as i had the "unfair advantage of being sober", there was also a girl i used to know who used to burst into tears every time she had a few pints. Now if sober ole me went around lamping people and bursting into tears (I.E doing a gazza impression) I'd be a bigger pariah than a Leper wearing a Galastasary shirt in no time

I think the drinking culture here is best summed up by Chris Morris in Brass eye holding up a pint and stating "its not a drug its a drink". Alcohol is so entrenched in our culture, to the extent that people are amazed when I tell them I'm in a nightclub whilst sober. There's also an increasing amount of 16-25 types who drink more pints in one 24 period than William hague does in his imagination.

That said, I would drink if I could, I've seen how much fun people can have on it, I'd probably take the odd night of random sex, violence, and traffic cones, for a few nights of inhibitionless fun. and the scary thing I think that as society has conditioned me to think that way (I guess i'm like one Paalovs dogs after its gone deaf).
