Following the recent release of her second EP, Eversley’s Laura Marling has announced early details of her forthcoming debut album.
Alas I Cannot Swim will be out through Virgin Records on the 4th of February. A single – the elusive and alluring ‘Ghosts’ - will come out a week beforehand, on the 28th of January.
The album will initially only be available in what the bumf calls “a unique ‘Song Box’ format” which as far as I can tell means the packaging will be grand and will contain not just the CD, but a concert ticket and – quoting again - “mementos relating to each song on the album”.
The concert ticket will have a unique code, which will grant entry to one of these five shows:
March
4 Glasgow Oran Mor
5 Birmingham Glee Club
6 London Scala
7 Bristol Trinity Arts Centre
8 Manchester Academy 2
Register online with the code and a unique bar-code will be sent flying through the air onto your mobile phone. Presuming you have one, of course. If not we presume you’re fucked.

thats a great video
and she was amazing supporting Devendra Banhart
out of time
they're all a bit one dimensional, this new breed of female singer-songwriter coming through. none of them are really pushing the boundaries beyond following the lily allen formula which frankly is a bit boring now
how on earth is laura marling
ripping off lily allen?
through the formulation
of the verses and the chitter chatter lyrics...as with kate nash, lily allen, miss jo williams and the rest of the new breed
don't get me wrong, she's got a great voice but its not the kind of sound thats pushing the boundaries.
She isn't pushing any boundaries
but she is a far better song writer than Kate Nash. I think theres more substance to this girl than alot of the "new breed".
'the formulation of the verses'
"through formulation of verses and the chitter chatter lyrics"
i don't buy a word of this.
have you even listened to the music or are you making some sort of snap judgment based on prejudice formed through her appearance in mass media?
if you were to spend 6/7 minutes visiting her myspace and listening to the two songs up there, you'd find an artists singing about personal loss, mental health and topics relating to euthanasia. hardly the stuff of kate nash/lily allen.
yes you can accuse her of being unoriginal and not pushing boundaries, (you could even call her shit, that would just be your opinion and wouldn't bother me in the slightest,) but comparing her to lily allen, just because she's a female singer songwriter and has come about after her, is plain lazy.
i see far more joni mitchell references than lily allen or kate nash.
As above
caius is correct.
mate
you're a fucking idiot
re: caius
here here
Laure
...was adorable on later with jools.
Pity she has no free mp3s anywhere...i'm not ready to pay yet!
yeah there is
I have about 10-15 demos, PM if you want any...
The early demos
Definitely showed a lot of potential but the last EP was a leap forward and this song is something else altogether. Really excited to hear the album, she deserves to do really well
