i've met soooooooo many people whom hang off every word and note and i feel that i am missing something. I play their records (i do own them) and i just hear AOR. certainly nothing big or clever.

MIA vs. The Clash seems a bit of an odd argument
however, MIA has produced two undeniably forward-thinking, kick-ass albums. Polemics/grumpiness in interviews/sketchy live shows aside, I think if you don't "get" Arular and Kala, surely you just need to listen to them some more. Really loud.

just because something is 'different' doesn't make it good. you can get crap music that just happens to be different from all the other crap music; that doesn't mean it's any better, it's just a different kind of rubbish. i'd rather listen to something formulaic, as long as it's a really good formula, than something that's new and experimental but just doesn't work. now, for something to be different AND good, that should be praised.
