Anyone, anyone? I booked my flight for this last week...

....

'TIS GOING TO BE A M A Z I N G.......

its normally mid march

don't worry its always good, Chic 2 years ago was one of the best musical moments of my life.

Oh. I know Sonar well..

and it's actually on in June... 19, 20 and 21st I think from memory... YAY...

Sunshine, brilliant music, and spending the early morning hours on a beach the way a festival SHOULD be... :D

I'm definitely going

but so far I'm on my own. Some of my friends are going for Primavera but I maintain that Sonar will be more fun. Although I haven't actually been.
...bit scared of going to a foreign festival alone though.

Come and hook up with us! Seriously, am organising a pre

Sonar party for people going.. it's a really friendly vibe and if you are going alone, come and meet some people who are going. There's also a great facebook group called I AM GOING TO SONAR 2008 who are talking about the after parties and what not...

I'm already counting down the days. I just wish the line up was released... Hmmm... must have a look.

admitting your scared?

I never thought I'd see the day.

no the line up normally trickles out mid March

I know its on in June silly. I missed it last year but I went to great Output Recs party on a roof of a hotel the year before, well worth keeping an eye out for.

loads of the labels

who have artist playing tend to have low key invite only parties, keep scanning nearer the time to get info.
I'm currently trying to divert a friends stag do thats clashing to go to Barca so I can do both.

went few years ago

it was brilliant. could be well up for going again.

highlight was Kid Kola dj-ing on the last night. He dropped the theme tune from Wierd Science. A-Mazing.

I just read that

the line up will be announced on Tuesday

Dexter-Vagrant..

Was that 2004? With Massive Attack and Roots Manuva?

If so the Kid Koala set was sublime. I seem to remember Close To You by The Cure in there and a freakin sweet version of Moon River too.

Been looking for a copy of that set ever since, with no joy..

Advice pls

I've always looked at the lineups for Sonar and been so impressed and really want to go so:

what kind of cash does it involce (tickets+travel+spend)?
how easy are tickets to get? or are they for various venues?
would you recommend getting accom + tix or do both separate?

so keen for a festival in a city in the sun, no way i'm doing Glastonbury this year.

okay. The most important thing is getting a flight early enough

if skint, so that you don't pay ridiculous summertime fares to Spain. We paid about £106 return with Iberia (which is affiliated with BA ie a proper airline - no charter shit where you sit in an airport for 30 hours because your flight is delayed kind of crap).

Secondly, depends what you want. You can get day tickets but I'd suggest getting the full three day and night pass. During the day there is a plethora of activity surrounding multimedia and music (I really plan on going to those quite intensely this year.. on the Thurs and Fri anyway)...

You can always get pretty cheap accom in Barcelona. Depends on budget again.. you can do anything from hostel to hotel.

Tickets for the actual festival are not on sale as yet but should be in about four weeks time. I think they are about 150 euros, maybe a bit more, for the full pass.. don't quote me as yet. Tix are easy to get but I'd get them before you go.

Book flights first if cash is an issue!

there are seriously 20 acts I really want to check out in that line up (so far)

which means I might have to try and be some kind of massive uber geek and timetable it.

There's already contention from people I'm going with about who wants to see what so suspect I'll be having quite a few random Rose-Kitten adventures. Hmm.

I have to say I am pleased that the man from Osaka, Scotch Egg has made the line up.

IS NO ONE ELSE EXCITED? I booked my hotel today. Must get ticket tomorrow.

Ditto,

I've got my accomodation and flights, just need the tickets. Should be awesome, last Yellow Swans show ever! There's still loads of bands I need to investigate though.

This year's poster

Wonder if they've seen the Mighty Boosh?

http://www.thewire.co.uk/articles/849/

Really

Im sure its going to be worth it for Frankie Knuckles alone. I think I might try and hang around in Barcelona after Primavera somehow

The Wire

website says that Mike Banks and Jeff Mills are playing too, but I dont see their names mentioned anywhere on the Sonar site...I think that would swing it for me..

There's often late additions to these things..

I've seen both Frankie Knuckles and Jeff Mills play (the latter a couple times) before.. Frankie in a six hour set waaaaaaaaaay back in the day down at Brixton (probably about 2001 - gosh, memories). His face lights up the entire dj deck, what, with those massive white teeth and grin.

I am so excited by this festival because I missed out on LOADS of stuff last summer. BRING IT ON.

Yeah

I saw Jeff Mills (with Steve Bicknell who was also fantastic) at Lost a couple of NYEs ago. It was a good night :D

Banks and Mills

will be doing the "X-102 discovers The Rings of Saturn" along with Robert Hood. I assume/hope they'll all have solo sets too.

Not yet,

my mate is getting them this week. My friends couldn't decide whether to go to the opening night or not, we decided Goldfrapp ain't worth it.

yo, Jay, get your ass over to Barcelona!

It's gonna be hot hot hot.
Seriously.
There's still time to pimp yourself for funds to get there.

I just brought loads of tings....

I can't go, much as I'd love to.

I'm not going to even say "next year" this time as I've been saying that for about 4 years now!

I booked my flights + ticket yesterday

and I can't wait but does much go on before and after the Fest?

Im arriving on the Sat 14th and fly back on the Mon 23rd, so I'm up for as much music and partying I can fit in.

ta

waaaaaaaaay hay!

ummm... I know there are some pre industry parties going on... if that's what you mean? I need to do some investigation in that area myself.

there are A LOT of great things happening in the clubs of Barcelona anyway at that time, not connected to the festival and somewhat independent. you will have a great time!!

...

This is a good thread which should keep you up to date with what's happening off-Sonar - http://www.residentadvisor.net/forum-read.aspx?id=37261&page=1

I'm toying with Dave Clarke or some bonkers looking Swimming Pool party for the Thursday.
