that you WANT to get a bit of success this year, rather than the ones that all the idiots are tipping because they know they'll sell loads of records, who would it be?

mine would be:

My band, obviously

Unless you mean tip as cow-tipping, in which case, Adele.

frYars

Obviously Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences

but failing that I'm torn between

www.myspace.com/davidcronenbergswife 'cos they're ace

www.myspace.com/extraditionorder 'cos they're ridiculously lovely people. And ace.

www.myspace.com/horsebox 'cos they're ace and make poppy catchy radio-friendly indie music a damn sight better than most people currently making money out of poppy catchy radio friendly indie music.

And www.myspace.com/timtenyen simply 'cos he sounds exactly like what I think pop music should sound like. And if someone can write pop songs as well as he does, and perform them as well as he does, and not be a massively successful pop star, then the entire music industry makes no sense.

spilt milk

they have a 7" coming out in a couple of weeks.
the b-side ist gut

true.

i've got it on CD, and yea, the b-side is grand (if that's what gut means, i dunno, i can't keep up with the kids nowadays!)

i slip into german occasionally

for which, i apologise.

thesoundofsnowpunk

or whatever we'll be called.

johnny flynn
laurasingsliver

kong

Matt Pond PA

They just released an album in the US though, so I dunno if they'll be noticed this side of the water, really.

Strange coicnidence

Playing 'A Milluon Middle FIngers' this very second

:)

Posting that made me listen to Emblems all the way home. They're way overdue some coverage over here. Great band.

happy traumas

all the way

ESIOTROT!!!

i think im in love?

I hope Gossamer Albatross sell more records.

Failing that I hope the This Town Needs Guns record is massive.

The Wave Pictures

Just can't stop listening to 'Long Island'!

Also, actually, fucking the rules, one of your favourites twee_loser, Godwits. www.myspace.com/godwits

These guys are pretty good too, the guy has an absolutely stunning voice.

Godwits sing like they...

..are Barry Hyde, albeit with a completely different accent. Hard to describe, kind of, abrupt?

A couple of local bands

Spencer McGarry Season:

www.myspace.com/spencermcgarry

Writes cracking songs basically. It's like listening to loads of classic bands at the same time, without it being derivative.

Truckers of Husk:

www.myspace.com/truckersofhusk

'Don't call it math-rock' band featuring 2 ex-Jarcrew chaps, and a cellist.

Both bands have releases out this year on Cardiff based labels. I wish them the best of luck in 2008.

and held by hands actually.

their album could be incredible.

Haha!

I read that as "Held By Hands are going to be massive" for an exultant moment.

Wild Beasts

.

a couple of bands from edinburgh that i dig.....

Alfonzo and Aaron Wright & The Aprils.

^That was for Lyle...

You'd think I'd know howto work this thing by now...

yeah, if there was any justice

a small band called Friends of the Bride should be massive at the end of 2008 !
As would be french band This Is Pop !

i'd like to think someone else is going to tip us...

...but that seems unlikely. we will be releasing another album this year, though, and a 20-minute single, if all goes according to plan.

Clipd Beaks

are astonishing.

FrYars. He's done his A-levels now. And he's hawt.

Black Moth Super Rainbow.

i saw FrYars live

he's got a nice voice!

Lucky you!

Would love to see him live. Apparently he stopped doing shows because he was studying? Think I heard his music just before then. I had a demo somewhere from a friend but can't find it :(

i got some mp3s from somewhere...

I though he's only done a couple of gigs? The first was reviewed in the NME or something...

if he opened for Of Montreal he must be doing something right

what - at the ULU show?

along with Black Kids?

Amazing.

Will definitely try to see him live. His voice is so distinctive, he sounds much older than he is.

yes!

well, his voice started off reminding me of an old friend of mine (he used to be in this band but that was a few years ago

then everyone else started whispering Antony & the Johnsons...

i like his 'backing band' also...

Black Kids were shocking though!

This Town Needs Guns

behold one of the best bands in Britain right NOW.

www.myspace.com/thistownneedsguns

Ctystal Castles (for the 2nd year in a row!)

They will get properly (mainstream) known this year & Commix will have a big album of '08.

Let's Wrestle

Screaming Tea Party

- both on the same label as well, Stolen Recordings

I saw them the other week

didnt think much of them really (Let's Wrestle)

Elle S'appelle

from Liverpool

Most definitely Glasvegas

and my outside bet are Rossmann Frister..

good call

Arms At Last are from there aswell, and probably as good.

pleased that someones giving MFT the credit they deserve. i truly hope and believe they shall get a lot bigger this year too. they're lovely hard working kids.

MFT would sit well

on a bill with Bright Eyes.

I'd like to see St.Vincent get somewhere as I can think of anything else she sound likes..AT ALL
www.myspace.com/stvincent

and Metronomy because they are well and truly awesome.

The Veils

Which I can see as being semi-possible as they've got album no. 3 out this year on Rough Trade...

Also, leeds bands:

Rosie Taylor Project, Napoleon IIIrd, Held By Hands
