The first “tranche” of acts have been confirmed, it says here, for The Great Escape 2008.

The Brighton-smothering festival will occur in over 25 venues from the 15th to the 17th of May, once again ensuring that the FA Cup final is watched through eyes covered in a thin film of alcohol.

Will it be worth it? That’s for you to decide, using the below as an early guide if you will, but be wary as countless others are yet to be confirmed:

Young Knives
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
Tunng
Peter Von Poehl
Lightspeed Champion
Fujiya and Miyagi
School of Language

Updates on that line-up will appear regularly on the news pages of Drowned in Sound, including details of our stage(s).

Tickets for the festival are stood, reasonably for the moment, at ‘Early Bird’ prices of £35 for ‘punter tickets’ and £99 for ‘delegate tickets’; both give you access to all the gigs but the more expensive also grants you permission to be present at the Great Escape convention.

Huh?

“A varied seminar and talk programme for industry professionals. A delegate pass also includes access to speed networking sessions, insightful interviews, celebrity talks, the delegates bar and priority access to all gigs.”

Sharks.

Anybody know what the queues were like last year?

It was pretty shocking in 2006, so I didn't bother again

Saying that, I'd like to see both Lightspeed Champion and Fujiya & Miyagi again, so I could be tempted

Also, lol at the Young Knives for still doing events like this

Queues

Were pretty bad in the bigger venues, even for so-called 'delegates'...

CSS headlined last year

so its not too shocking. The queues for the bigger venues were terrible but I got to see Yourcodenameis:Milo in the Prince Albert so im happy :)

Great lil line up so far

they weren't too bad

and it serves people right if they turn up late to see a big band. they're doing some interesting things to make it better for people this year.

such as?

My May festival is always Dot to Dot in Nottingham... Never been to the Great Escape.

Bands play all over the city

even when they arent scheduled ala Noisettes on a balcony and Yourcodenameis:Milo in Prince Albert

Seriously

The past two years have been amazing. For £35 you really can't go wrong! I worked out I saw something like 30 bands in 2007, mostly half-decent ones. Good chance to see bands you're undecided on aswell as if they're rubbish someone brilliant will be on 5 minutes walk away.

looks good

so far

i really should get a ticket soon

Queues

Were pretty horrific last year.I heard that they sold 10% more tickets than they were supposed to...therefore 10% of us couldn't get into each venue. However, on the plus side I had a bloody brilliant time in Brighton!
