Adele

Nineteen-year-old wonder Adele recently spoke with The Clash in support of her new album '19'. The London newcomer attended The Brit School in Selhurst, just as other currently popular songstresses Kate Nash and Amy Winehouse, With one listen to Adele it's clear how she differs from the others. Not yet out of her teens, this girl has a lot to look forward to, and so do her fans.

"I don't believe in learning about music through some old man's criteria, I think it's bullshit."

Sons And Daughters

Despite taking a risky two and a half years off between releases, Sons And Daughters seem to be picking up right where they left off. January 28 will see the release of a new LP 'This Gift', featuring the first single 'Gilt Complex'.

"We didn't want it to be contrived, but it is very danceable in the same way as The Smiths and Blondie were."

Radiohead

In the new The Clash...
12 Things you never knew about Radiohead
#6 Thom Yorke's younger brother Andy fronted the band The Unbelievable Truth in the late '90s. They split up after the reasonably successful album 'Almost Here' and one relative flop. But he is now back on the music scene playing gigs in Oxford and due to release a solo album early next year.

The Mars Volta

To anyone even vaguely familiar with The Mars Volta, it should come as no surprise that a rare board game from Jerusalem has played a key role in the band's new work and the time tarnished between it and their last. Yes, you can read all about the game, dubbed The Soothsayer, in the latest issue of The Clash. With the episode of evil spirits hopefully behind them, the duo have put forth their latest offering, 'The Bedlam in Goliath' out in the UK on January 28.

"Everyone kept accusing us of creating this infernal machine and making music with evil intent."

Goldfrapp

'Seventh Tree', the fourth album from Goldfrapp, ventures into new territory for the provocative performer. Dreamlike and ethereal, it's not quite dance record. Influenced by nature, and in particular a dream featuring a tree with the number seven on it, Alison is as keen on experimenting as ever. The new album is out on February 25.

"I think often people are really disappointed when they see me - that I haven't come out of the salon and I'm not stomping around with a whip in my hand."

Lightspeed Champion

Despite illness and a tight schedule, Dev Hynes, better known as Lightspeed Champion, made time to talk to The Clash about his life lately. His new album "Falling Off The Lavender Bridge" is quite a departure from the Test Icicles, with an alt-country leaning. Various Saddle Creek artists contributed to the album, which was recorded in Nebraska. The 21-year-old will be touring in 2008.

"I fucking hate playing solo, it's never how I imagined it to be."

British Sea Power

In the new issue of The Clash, British Sea Power divulges their resolutions for the new year. These English heroes of rock will be unleashing their latest, 'Do You Like Music' on 14th January on Rough Trade. Pick up the new issue to find out which member of the band resolved to talk to more Polish Girls this year.

The Duke Spirit

Since their debut album, 'Cuts Across The Land', The Duke Spirit has kept well busy touring America with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Mercury Rev. They opted to record their latest effort 'Neptune' in the desert town of Joshua Tree, California. Produced by the godfather of desert rock Chris Goss, the album has many references to water, ironically.

"I can't really explain it, but there were moments where the only pivot to work around would be the pull of the sea, of that I was writing from a submerged situation."

Envelopes

This quintet of Swedish and French origin has broken out with their successful debut album 'Demon'. The only problem is they can't afford to do much touring. They're keeping their chins up however, and are for now content to keep plugging away, gigging when they can and recording however they can. Keep your eyes and ears open for this one. When they do make it to a venue near you, you won't want to miss it.

"We like to do lots of gigs but we're broke. We can't tour."
