The Ting Tings
Yo Majesty, Joe Lean and the Ja Ja Jew, some other bands...I got bored after I'd read about Yo Majesty to be honest.
right..
ta anyway
Glas
Vegas, Courteeners and I forget who else.
Can anyone explain to me
why all these new bands have names that sound like they were given to them by retarded 14 year-olds?
Apart from Foals, which isn't too bad I suppose.
Yo Majesty!
:D
Yo Majesty? Seriously?
Amazing :D
Grammatics.
And if NME says it, then they are great.
Proof: http://www.myspace.com/grammatics
They really are in the NME ?
Good work then !
John Earls...
From Planet Sound also gave your guys a big ol' pat on the back for 2008.
Really? When?
I <3 John.
For the third time!
ZING.
now
get them the cover !
ooh
I read it on Monday I think? It may be archived over at http://www.teletext.co.uk/A2Z/default.aspx
all the usual
Foals
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
The Ting Tings
Black Kids
The Rascals
Lightspeed Champion
Friendly Fires
Glasvegas
The Courteeners
Wow...
... I'd like to glass all of those bands, just for a laugh.
Just for a laugh?
Seems a tad harsh!
It is
But all the blood would congeal in their haircuts, it'd be great.
Mind you the NME would probably love the look and we'd have groups of stoodent twats wondering around with sticky red 'craaaaaazy' hair within a week.
And then I'd have to glass all of them too, and where would that get me?
Platypusfool
Have you seen Glasvegas? Like, even a photo?
Errr, no, to be fair... Hang on...
Just checked their myspace, looked at photos, listened to music etc.
I'd still quite like to glass 'em, but might not cos they're from Glasgow so they'd kick the shit out of me just for stealing their national pastime. (That was a cheap shot, I like the Scottish in general).
I just took one look at that list and saw all the same bands on every 'to be big in 2008' list and found a surge of hatred rising for the inevitable success of these bands. These bands who do nothing new except by adding wanky haircuts, a slight 'not-at-all-like-the-Arctic-Monkeys-at-all-honest' regional accent, and, in the case of Glasvegas, the word 'experimental' to their myspace.
Grrrr.
If everybody tipped different shit
then no one would really benefit.
Except the human race...
... Cos then we'd have, you know, an actual choice, rather than all being forced to listen to the same ten bands ad infinitum until enough people like them for the record companies to make money and secure that V Festival headlining spot.
Obviously I'm speaking about people who don't have the time or inclination to search out worthwhile bands, but since that includes mostly everyone it's irrelevant.
Exactly.
This is probably the most bizarre comment I've ever seen Crablin write on here.
Although obviously music magazines help sell records, they're not supposed to only exist as marketing tools for whoever the labels fancy pushing this year.
If everyone in the music press tipped bands they genuinely believe in, regardless of whether it's different to what other magazines tipped, everybody would benefit.
im
suprised johnny Foreigner wasn't in there.
is it really surprising?
They've been written about by the NME, like, twice.
Sure they're great, but unsurprising that they weren't one of the NME's ten most fancied bands of the year.
hmm
i suppose *Sighs*
Yeah but
I reckon they've had more exposure than Grammatics, good as both bands are.
What's your point?
They're both fabulous bands. NME will love them both in due course. These tips articles aren't incredibly important in the long run, but I guess it's nice to know who they're supporting.
Grammatics weren't one of THE top tips for the year
Oh right!
I was going to say that's pretty surprising, as I haven't seen the NME yet.
Were they in an "underground" list or something?
is it good or bad
that i've never heard a single song from any of these bands?
Depends on the band.
I'd recommend hearing a Foals song but avoid seeing the singer's haircut.
or
just go see dartz! instead, no stupid haircuts there
keep up
the good work
i plan to
I like
Joe lean and glas vegas are pretty call, can't really comment on the others.
*cool
.
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
why
do you mean in regards to the list?
or in a more existential sense? If the latter, I agree
in an existential sense
I just don't know how anyone can be excited by them
^I'll second that emotion
I overheard some girls in Smiths talking about them
And about Foals too. It was a horrible conversation something like:
Girl 1: "Joe Lean will be so famous this year, he's making commercial indie"
Girl 2: "Definitely, and Foals. I can't remember any of their songs but they've been on T.V and NME love them so they must be really good"
Ugh.
They're so run-of-the-mill
I can't believe anyone's taken an interest. They must be seriously well-connected, that's the only reason I can think of.
Joe Lean comes across as a complete bell-end as well. 'It's imperative we sound like Razorlight' - lol, fuck off you cretin.
when did he say that?
.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguide/music/story/0,,2215303,00.html
"But whoever says that hasn't really listened to it. I mean, in the sense that I wanted to be grouped within this sonic aesthetic, then of course it's imperative we sound like Razorlight! I want to sound like Razorlight and the Strokes and Bloc Party. But we don't actually sound like any of them. We're broader than that. I want to make music that a tribe in Papua New Guinea can relate to."
This guy certainly brings the LOLz
I should have
tinyURL'd that shit
http://tinyurl.com/2exfkg
sounds like the conversation
between me and my mates.
I like how
in today's Manufactured Pop Is Taking Over Again (Except It Isn't) PS piece Earls acknowledges that everyone already hates him/them.
I like them
Alot...and you all too....don't deny it!
I hope
you're not standing by any ajar floodgates at the moment.
erm
yeh...why you ask?
cos
they obviously have bloody good PR and are already well connected, it's quite clearly nothing to do with their music. since when has the actual music mattered eh?
for some reason bbc oxford chose to run an interview with them too when they played here, i must ask them why. i'd much rather have read an interview with metronomy or css.
What's with the Rascals?
Milburn didn't take off, so why are great swathes of the pop media trying to lay this lot on us?
I'm willing to wager
It's mostly about the haircuts.
Turner and Kane
The singer did that side project with Alex Turner which is released in the summer, see Rascals sales rise from then on in!
glasvegas
are a pure shite embarassment to glasgow, as bad as the fratellis ...
us glaswegians apologise profusely...
thank fuck the twilight sad keep any fuckin credibility we do hav intact
craigx
is there really that much difference between the two?
I mean, I'm not saying they sound the same but...
haha
you said The Foals.
wasn't joe lean in that peep show episode
he's sophie's younger brother who likes dance music, he's proper sheltered and stuff? It looks like him.
Indeed he was.
he also was in 'the tudors'.more to the point, he
emulates peter crackerty in several quite harmful ways.not just in terms of writing meaningless songs.
