Devil May Cry is coming out on 360 too, and they've not ruled out porting Metal Gear over at some point...

i had the same dilemma and am happy with my choice, xbox live is so well populated. All the games i want are on both consoles or exclusive to xbox, plus wireless controller rule.

* Free online
* Ratchet & Clank
* Bluray
* MGS, FF, GTA5, GT4 all to come.

I should say that I've never owned a PlayStation, but I did play on a PS3 hoping to be blown away but it just seemed a little underwhelming. And the controllers are still shit, which actually completely ruins gameplay. They're not heavy enough and the rumble-effect on a 360 controller is so much better.

And used to own an xbox360 before someone broke in to our house and nicked it.

I'd get the PS3 if there's a couple of games you want for it. More games will be coming out for it as time goes on, after all. Only reason the Xbox has the upper hand there is because it's been around longer.

If there's nothing you want for PS3, Xbox isn't THAT different, being honest. Just crashes more (or mine did).

It has Gears of War (you would love this game, seriously. Chainsaw bayonet on your big fuck off machine gun? Hell yeah!)

Also:

The Orange Box - Half Life 2, Ep 1 and 2, plus Portal, which is possibly the best game ever and of course, Team Fortress 2.

Other good stuff: Halo 3, Dead Rising, Stranglehold, Assassin's Creed, Flatout, Bioshock and xbox live is pretty sweet.

i know it's obviously not the best graphically and has no where near as much power as a PS3 or 360 but it's the most fun console by far. i love my wii, it has a web browser and has some really great games coming out, but if you're even considering buying a PS3 you might as well get a 360 and a wii, it'd still be cheaper.

by about a million miles. For x-box live and the few good ps3 games that are coming out are coming out on 360 too.

my boyfriend has one and when i go round i spend all my time playing on it. much to his annoyance.

PS3's just strike me as being better.

My boy has one and I have to admit, it is great.
You don't have to pay for extras after you buy the standard box like with Xbox, and you have a ready to go blu-ray player as well as some very good games (bearing in mind the only one I play is loco roco, but i have to watch 'tother un play warhawk all evening :S)
Also, it has 8 brains and will upscale dvds to as high a definition as possible for your viewing pleasure.
So that's my second hand opinion!

This should be backwards compatible to play all my ps2 games and is cheaper than buying a blu-ray player.

just because there was simply no way I was going to fork over money to a company that seems to be making little or no effort with its customers. It's like everyone thinks the PS3 is some beast that'll inevitably crush all its rivals under the weight of it's Real Awesome Power. Don't go buying one because 'some good games might come out on it in the future;' and really, the 360 has such a strong userbase now that it doesn't make sense for many developers to stay 'loyal' to the PS3 as a single platform. I'm fairly sure we'll see MGS4 on the 360 after 6 months or so of it being a Sony exclusive.

The red ring o' death stuff is aggravating; but at least Microsoft are being sports about replacements and extending warranties. Based on Sony's track record through this generation so far, would they do the same?

Don't buy now on the basis of future promise; the games industry feeds off hype and hyberbole, and you'll find that most of the things you've frothed over turn out rubbish. Go on the basis of the things out there now that you fancy playing.

Anyway, I just got my hacked PSP Slim through the other day. Portable SNES Shadowrun, Castlevania: SOTN and Street Fighter Alpha 3; all for the win.

Really. If I could have any system and my choice of games for it right now, the current generation of consoles can go hang.

personally I would get a PS3 just for Ratchet and Clank alone.

graphics are great, lots of fun games of different variety and halo 3 as well. totally worth it. all my buds have 360s so i'm debating getting a PS3 as a bunch of new and sweet games are coming out soon....the Wii is fun but after a while I just want to go back to the console again.

I have both and, I have to admit, the 360 is the far superior console. Better games, a vastly superior on-line service, and in terms of all round functionality it beats the PS3 hands down- for example you can plug your MP3 player into your 360, and listen to your own music while playing games, something which isn't possible on the PS3. Plus, 360 is now getting nearly all of the PS3's formerly 'exclusive' games, and contrary to one of the posts above GTA4 is hitting all consoles at the same time, but only the 360 version will have exclusive downloadable content

Ratchet and Clank is a bonza lil game, though. Not worth buying a PS3 for, but good fun nonetheless. Until MGS4 arrives my PS3 will continue to act as a grossly overpriced DVD player. :(
