playstation 2 game recommendations

Ok I'm going into town in about 15 mins to buy myself a cheapo second hand PS2 and a few cheap old games.

Any recommendations of any great PS2 games, however old?

I like RPGs but not ones with too complicated graphics or too much magic or extensive battle tactics.

I don't, as a rule, like shoot em ups or blow everything up games. But am open to suggestions.

Please suggest away with all your favourites!

pro evolution soccer 4

it rules the roost!

i've already got this from past student days

definitely the best football game ever for its time.

Psyconaughts

original, funny and you can set squirrels on fire

I AM THE MILKMAN!

Singstar?

Although you say you don't really like shooters, if they have REZ I would recommend that above all else. Possibly the most beautiful game of all time (and unique).

Also:
ICO
Okami
(both have adventure/RPG elements)

Great minds..

etc

Shadow of the colossus

Okami
Godhand (just give it a chance..)
Frequency/Amplitude
Ico (if you can find it..)
FFX is a lovely, straightforward RPG; but it's hardly universally loved. XII is accomplished, but left me cold.
(Actually, I've not played it, but sounds like you'd LOVE Dragon Quest VIII)

how similar is it

to devil may cry?

DQVIII

is pretty repetitive. and hard (if you don't train for 30 hours each location).

Timesplitters 2

Soul Calibur 2 or 3
Tekken 5
Hitman
Mashed
Gran Turismo
Eyetoy
Final Fantasy..... X or something.

Eyetoy was such a gimmick

it didnt catchon at all and none of the games really had any staying power, good for a laugh when your drunk.

MASHED on the other hand, I would reccomend... its like £10 and is reasson enough to buy a multitap... have it on Xbox and its the most played game ever on it despite only costing £15 on release. Its just like the old skool Micro Machine game.

Xbox are gay

i have a multitap too. it was AWESOME with Mashed. and Timesplitters.

Tekken 5

amazing! I am unbeatable as Hoarang (sp) in this game

Hwoarang aka 'the whore'

he's my character too. <3 tekken in all forms. though, so so so slow in comparison to Soul Calibur.

ps

law :)

all I do

in soul calibur is stand at the edge with link and grab attack them off the arena. it rules.

also

Prince of Persia: two thrones

God of War

Assassins Creed

.

METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SONS OF LIBERTY YES PLEASE

parallel parking simulator

Rocky Vs Bambi II
Catch That Tram
Sooty Rampage
Virtual Bed

Burnout

1, 2, 3 (and perhaps 4). Also, Prince of Persia: Sands Of Time and Resident Evil 4.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

to all of these. ALL OF THESE.

I think Sands of Time was my favourite PoP game.

It's all soft and lovely unlike the more METAL sequels.

I shouldn't have left out RE4; it's my most replayed game EVAH. Good port to the humble wee PS2, as well.

..he's gone, now, hasn't he?

I was thinking earlier about buying a game...

Did anyone play Shadow of the Colossus?

yeah, it's good

but quite difficult.

all you need

is pes 4.
I highly recommend nightfire because the multiplayer is so damn fun. Mashed is awesome too

sex

MX vs ATV Unleashed

*dont buy resi4

it sucks for the PS2. Instead go and buy a wii/gamecube and resi 4

It absolutely, quantifiably, does not suck as a conversion.

If you did a straight comparison between the two you'd be able to tell the difference. In practice, you won't give a jot, unless you're a real stickler for graphics (in which case you're going to need to factor in the cost for a GC component lead, too..).
Some nice extra content on the PS2 version over the GC one, as well.

no no no!

i don't agree at all, there are quite a few differences:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil_4#PlayStation_2_port

the game was made specifically for Gamecube and the ps2 is just not as powerful. it's a shame it didn't stay as a Gamecube exclusive and Shinji Mikami's threat was taken seriously! as the gamecube was severely underrated, it has some brilliant games on it. i guess everyone can buy them for their Wiis now tho..(Killer 7/Super Smash bros./Wind Waker etc.)

I've played through both

multiple times and I know the differences. They make no practical difference whatsoever in gameplay terms; and only very minor differences in aesthetic terms. The experience is simply not affected by the changes, and is more than made up for by the extra content.

there was a game

where you have psychic powers, and your character looked a bit like Moby. It was good, but I've forgotten its name.

shadow of the collossus def

also gradius 5 is a shoot em up but it's so much fun, ridiculously hard but great with 2 players. plus it's got amazing graphics.

2 words

vice city.

my favourite game of all time.

Resident Evil 4...

...Is just as good on PS2 as Gamecube.

So...

RE4
Tekken 5
Soul Calibur 2
Metal Gear 3
Devil May Cry 3
God Of War

I mean

Tekken 5 comes with Tekken, Tekken 2 and Tekken 3. Fantastic.

resident evil 4

looked a lot nicer on the gamecube...they had to make texture compromises on the ps2 on water details, explosions, lighting etc.

Onimusha 1 2 or 3.

Any of the ones with high age ratings.

a randomer,

Circus Maximus Chariot Racing

...a bit shit, but SOOO much fun.

God of war 1 and 2

my favourite game, also shadow of the collossus.

GTA: San Andreas

boring recommendation, but you can get the extra .36% and then 100% and i can live vicariously through you and enjoy your triumph.

Metal Gear Solid 3

it's the greatest game ever

lesseee...

Devil May Cry 1
ratchet and clank
resident evil 4
guitar hero
.hack is decent
shadow of the collossus
metal gear solid 1 (ps1)
tomb raider?
final fantasy 10/12 (or just get 7 for PS1)
GTA:SA if you're into that.
LEGO STAR WARS 2(UNREAL)
etc etc

also see

suikoden series, especially 3.

i don't have many games

but i can vouch for:

grand theft auto san andreas
guitar hero 2
god of war
resident evil 4

all of them are brilliant.

GTA: San Andreas

Perfection man. And there's so much longevity in it as well.

it is a work of art

i once played GTA so much that i when i went out of my house after about a week i thought my friend was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Metal Gear Solid 2

The best game ever made, in my humble opinion. If you like that, get 3 too, but start with 2.
