best high school film ever

i'm divided between:

clueless (cliched in a good way, genuinely witty, coined tons of still funny phrases)

say anything (john cusack in this film set up all my expectations of men)

heathers (funny, dark)

pretty in pink (amusing clothes, james spader, american class politics, duckie)

gregory's girl (clare grogan, really sweet)

fast times at ridgemont high (jennider jason leigh is awesome, very realistic)

election (so clever that it might not count)

Elephant

:p

^ this accurately sums up

my experience of high school

I second the breakfast club

and an honourable mention to 'pump up the volume'. it's a really good christian slater film. he's a high school nerd by day and a super cool pirate DJ called Harry Hard-On at night.
'TALK HARD'

^5

to both those nominations

I want to say The Breakfast Club

because as a whole I love that film but there are a few scenes I think are unwatchable.

American Pie, but only because I was about 13 when it came out

are you referring to the

ally sheedy sell-out scene at the end?
yeah, for me that does slightly ruin it but i still love the rest of the film.

That

And the weed smoking bit when the glass smashes. Just nonsense!

oh i quite like that bit

emilio's dancing is off the hook!

Seconded.

But I'd choose The Breakfast Club over any of these.

agreed

love it!

Out of those ones

I'd say Say Anything. I thought Pretty in Pink was a bit shit. Election is excellent.

Does

Back to the Future count?

Dazed And Confused gets my vote

Clueless is also great, as is Fast Times At Ridgemont High. And Gregory's Girl.

YEAH

dazed and confused totally wins

Dazed..

or breakfast club.

FTW

these three are to be commended.

i haven't seen gregory's girl.

say anything is good, but diane court is unbearable to watch. she's just so utterly wet. it saddens me that a person of lloyd dobler's obvious character is supposed to fall for her.

either

dazed & confused or breakfast club. love em both.

napoleon dynamite

obvs

Weird Science

It's all about Chet

"Do you realise it is snowing in my room goddammit!" etc

^ Weird Science

Possibly the first High School movie I watched, absolutely brilliant.

Teen Witch

TOP THAT!

California Man

It had it all, geeks, lust, heartbreak, the cool kid in school would bully the main geek, crazy American slushies, a caveman.

good choice!

i remember when my parents had sky movies for a while and this was on virtually every day.
good times.

Haha, I can remember that!

Possibly because I watched it everyday, along with Rookie Of The Year (I think that's what it's called?).

Good student times.

I watched this last night!

Great film, although I hated Sean Astin's character. What a prick.

Clueless

So like, right now for example. The Haitians need to come to America. But some people are all, "What about the strain on our resources?" Well it's like when I had this garden party for my father's birthday, right? I put R.S.V.P. 'cause it was a sit-down dinner. But some people came that like did not R.S.V.P. I was like totally buggin'. I had to haul ass to the kitchen, redistribute the food, and squish in extra place settings. But by the end of the day it was, like, the more the merrier. And so if the government could just get to the kitchen, rearrange some things, we could certainly party with the Haitians. And in conclusion may I please remind you it does not say R.S.V.P. on the Statue of Liberty. Thank you very much.

Some of the feminine pronouns do have mocking

but not necessarily misogynistic undertone.

:D

Election

is the best in that list but I like all the others too.

Class Of 1999

In the futuristic, gang controlled Seattle of 1999, the only way to control unruly students is with cyborg teachers that snap kids in half. Pam Grier rips her robotic hand off and shoots flames from the stump. Hell yeah.

Fast Times...

rulez

High School Films are

my favorite films ever. I can't choose. Even the crap ones are amazing.

even

cafes in soho named after high school films are brilliant. MMM breakfast club milkshakes.

Teen Wolf

gets my vote

good call

overrated

broderick = smug

he';s meant to be smug, surely?

it's brilliant

Technically not a high school film

but Back To School with Rodney Dangerfield was fantastic.

Most

of my favourites have been mentioned already.

Over The Edge is a good one, darker than most high school/teen movies though. Matt Dillon's first movie, i believe.

P*U*M*P

up the volume.

Quite a Bill Hicksian style rebel movie there, I reckon.

yeh

screwing with the man by playing living color quite loudly

how could you miss

ferris beuller day's off and the breakfast club???

i don't know why

that apostrophe ended up in such a stupid place

yeah

gets me every time

i nearly put an apostrophe in gets then. as in get's.

no idea what's wrong with me today

^this

Seen it so many times and it still amuses me.

mean girls is just

a cheap cross of heathers and clueless.

in conclusion, it's tremendous. everyone should see it at least twice.

so many great high school films

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
10 Things I Hate About You
Election
Superbad
Rushmore (this counts, yeah?)

I love Rushmore!

Actually I love pretty much anything starring Jason Schwartzman

PORKY'S

Pretty much EVERY

High School film is enjoyable.

i was VERY disapointed in pretty in pink

i usually love john hughes mmovies :'(

no way!

i love pretty in pink.

Was it the ending?

Because there was meant to be a different ending but Molly Ringwald was too sick to film it...

it was just the fact that NOTHING seemed to happen

her character wasn't particularly interesting and there wasn't muuch witty dialogue or anything of anythingm really.
it just felt really flimsy

i love pretty in pink

i bloody hate the breakfast club though. they used to make us what it at school when it was raining and we couldnt do PE :(

ace

film

actually

yeah it is. you're right. WAAAAAY better than both those other two.

hmm here's a bit on why pretty in pink apparently sucked

not sure i agree being a sucker for the 80s trash teen films but not so much stuff like bring it on or 10 things i hate about you.

culled from http://movies.msn.com/movies/moviesfeature/highschool

"Pretty in Pink" (1986)

Don't yell at me. I happen to like "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club." And it's painful for me to include any movie on a worst-of list in which character actor legend Harry Dean Stanton appears (and he's wonderful in this movie). But the ending, the ending. Not only do I personally hate it, it's also not consistent with the spirit of the movie. Sure, even spoiled rich boys deserve a second chance, but please. I'm supposed to believe that this creative, pretty girl who sews her own clothes and drives a nifty old car puts up with Andrew McCarthy's drippy pampered-boy embarrassment? I know she's not going to run off with perpetual friend Ducky (though in John Hughes' original ending, she did) but maybe, just maybe, she'll date some interesting older guy in a band. Or get on with her life -- alone. Or, here's a twist -- she could have surprised everyone by pairing up with the evil James Spader after their discussion of his Brooks Brothers-meets-Miami Vice suits revealed a shared passion for fashion design.

heathers FTW

clearly

listed

Dead Poet's Society
Rushmore
Election
Heathers
Clueless
Brick
breakfast club
mean girls

Heathers wins for dark comedy, dead poet's for serious high school drama, Brick on the quirky side and clueless on the completely daft front.

Superbad was class....

also Ferris Buellers and Breakfast club.

thank GOD

someone finally mentioned Brick, amazing amazing film.

I want to put a vote in for Not Another Teen Movie, as it's pretty much all these films together, it's bloody awful really but oddly watchable...

Sure Thing

Although I guess that is also a buddy/romance/roadtrip film too.

i hated brick

for some reason it really irritated me.

sacriledge

hating brick shows the sign of a tasteless empty shell like person.

i love heathers

christian slater <3

Rushmore should win

It's possibly my favourite film ever.

Best high school series

has got to be Freaks and Geeks.

better than

my so-called life?!?!?!

YAH!

GREASE

its got mooooooood its got feeeeeeelin

Cruel Intentions

Does this count? Dangerous Liaisons in a high school setting?

donnie darko

Napoleon Dynamite

no?

YES

Most of these I like

I'll add Harold and Kumar Go To Whitecastle.

When the two hot chicks play Battleshits I got a mouth full of stomach bile I larfed so hard!

I was gonna say heathers

then I remembered

10 Things I hate about you
Napolion Dynamite
Elephant
and more recently Superbad

All from different perspectives and to suit different audience tastes, all AWESOME
