opinions? as usual i prefer the live versions, but the songs are still fantastic, especially the title track.

Is it more vocal like their later stuff has been?

I like their 1st two albums but the latter-day ones make my ears bleed.

its more vocal yes

the melodies are much improved. horses in the sky grated on me after a while, i hope this doesnt

I'll wait for the boyf to buy it

and listen to it then.
I really wish Godspeed would do something again, instead

hmm

i think they reached their peak personally. though the post yanqui stuff did sound intresting.

There's post-Yanqui stuff?

I'm such a novice. I don't have net access at home, so i can't scout for things

Ive heard two post yanqui live tracks

gamelan and albanian, wasnt too impressed by either, I much prefer recent asmz to late godspeed so in a way I hope they dont get back together, but it would be great to see them again. I only recently listened to set fire to flames, dunno why it took so long...so so good

I like some of SFTF stuff

but the album I bought is almost as bad as the re: one, and i'm reluctant to make another purchase

shall have to investigate

this after work

as far as I'm concerned....

Godspeed will never 'reform'.
Too many people, too many different musical ideas.
Too many excellent spill over projects.
If you want to see godspeed again go to the next ASMZ - 1 speed Bike - Exhaust - Shalabi project - etc.
Tis the closest you'll get!
Of course I could be wrong!

This is correct

but i saw ASMZ a few years back and - whilst it was good - i doubt it was anywhere near as good as a GY!BE show would have been

definatly true

ive seen both bands and asmz failed to grab me like GYBE! did . ASMZ are still worth tho watching for sure!

I am envious of anyone who has seen GYBE

....truly, truly envious. Especially when i had the chance and didn't

they were really really good when i saw them

a lot heavier than i expected them to be. have you heard the atp performance from 2003? ( ithink its that year) you can download it, if you never saw them while they were around get this and check it out :)

I too have had the pleasure of seeing both bands more than once!

Whilst it is true that GY!BE were way more immediate; the power of 9 musicians plus amazing visual projections lead to complete immersion (The Brighton Pavillion gig is still my all time favourite gig). I find ASMZ to be more interesting on many levels!
Where as Godspeed relied on dynamic shifts and sensory overload, ASMZ have a political stance and stripped bare tenderness that was oft missing in the might and force of the GY!BE stuff.

But don't get me wrong. They are/were both unbelievably good bands.

I can't wait to hear the new ASMZ album, as the tracks I've seen them do live are amongst some of the best they've ever done, 13 blues.... gives me shivers!

horses in the sjy

was utter garbage.
i don't hold out much hope of this one being any good, but i'm sure i'll give it a listen at some point.

*sky

.

huuuuhhhhhhh!

I hope you've listened to Horses in the sky more than once or twice??

Dead Marines
Teddy Roosevelt's Guns
Hang on to Each other
Ring Them Bells

Some of the most powerful music both sonically and lyrically of the last 10 years.
Head and shoulders above their early work!
Horses is an amazing album in my opinion!
But opinions obviously differ!

^

the opening minutes are so unlistenable it put me off for ages but when I went back to it its the best thing any of the members have done

I think

Horses In The Sky is ASMZs strongest album. I think these guys are actually getting better both in terms of live peformances and recorded output.

Maybe they will not be able to touch GY!BE who I fortunately managed to see once and who absolutely blew me away.

Cannot wait for the new lp. The material sounded ace at ATP last year.

listening to it now

the first song is abit 'rock'

A Silver Mt Zion are undoubtedly one of my favourite bands.

Horses In The Sky is an incredible album. To me, Godspeed was a primitive (albeit incredible) knot of tangled ideas that lacked the concise focus of Mt Zion.

They complete reaffirmed the notion of words to music for me, to the point where I spend as long on words as I do on music when composing now. The songs become almost tone poems, it's amazing; the first time I ever heard God Bless Our Dead Marines was unforgettable. Such lyricism is frankly absurb, far too good.

I have no doubt the new album will be incredible, Blind Blind Blind was amazing at the Scala.

here here

nicely put sir!

Where can i get it from

Ideas?

^this

I can't be bothered to search for it either.

Yeah

either give me a copy, or shut the hell up about it. Ive already pre-ordered the damn thing and the band dont mind. Just dont go on about it.

waffles.fm

or i could do you a CDR for the 9th?

2nd

Im very excited about this

but i know im going to feel so guilty about it. Especially as i cant afford to buy it for a while

Download some of the live sets

from Archive.org. Some are pretty great quality, and the band dont mind.

plus youll get

'take these hands' with the kickass drums.
