Justice's Madison Square Garden show switched to smaller venue

Boo! The brilliantly ambitious show French touch duo Justice had planned for Madison Square Garden has been switched to the WaMu Theater next door, dropping the attendance from a potential 17,000 to a maximum of 5,600.

So, as Drowned in Sound founder Sean Adams asked earlier this month, what the crunk is going on? There’s no word yet from MySpace or the band's management on the motivation behind the venue change, just a message from Ticketmaster, which you can read here. Or, alternatively, below:

“This event has been moved from Madison Square Garden to the WaMu Theater at MSG,” it begins.

“Tickets for the ARENA show will no longer be valid. Those patrons who had purchased tickets via Ticketmaster phone /internet to the ARENA show will be sent a new ticket for the Theater show. Those patrons who purchased tickets via the box office or Ticketmaster outlet for the ARENA show will be able to exchange their tickets at the Madison Square Garden Box Office.”

So – cold feet or just the rectification of an earlier mistake? The uber-show made some bizarre kind of sense to Drowned in Sound, given the 186,778 'friends' the Ed Banger pair claim on MySpace, but have the social networking site - who were organising the event - bitten off more than they can chew? DiScuss, citing sources where possible.

so the music industry ISN'T dying now?

Mistake

Well,

Can't say that I didn't see that coming.

5,600

is still kind of 'uber' for justice I would have thought. Times are a changin

186,778!

that amount of myspaz 'friends' doesn't equate with the number people that will spend shitloads of money on a justice ticket and going to new york. i'm a huge justice fan and have seen them twice last summer as have, i presume, many of their fans. also they've toured their asses off and havn't had any new material in months now.

half of those 'friends'

will be other bands and people who heard 'd.a.n.c.e.' once, anyway.

Nobody outside a few poor indie kids

have ever heard of this band. I seriously doubt they'll fill half the downsized venue.

FAO Myspace

Acts That Can Fill Madison Square Garden:

Beastie Boys
Bruce Springsteen
Billy Joel
Jay-Z
etc

Acts That Can't:

Overrated Daft Punk Imitators

^Overrated Daft Punk Imitators^

I expect this will go down like a lead balloon.
I know they cant fill MSG, but that comment is harsh.

is it though?

i really want to love them, but every time i hear something like da funk by daft punk, i realise that they had the sound wrapped up so much better 10 years ago. also, until Justice learn to build up something to drop they aren't gonna impress me enough.
