Neutral Milk Hotel. Oh God Yes. Here is your to do list:
1) buy 'Aeroplane'
2) become obsessed by how great it is, listen to it daily and play to any and every person you meet.
3) Buy 'On Avery Island' and appreciate how great it is (although not in the same league as Aeroplane)
4) Somehow get your hands on Jeff Mangum's solo effort 'Live at Jittery Joes' and fall in love with the songs off both albums all over again.

i was reccomended them about 3 years ago, but didn't really get into them, and have subsequently liked them less and less as all my friends get into them and rave about them.

i think it is one of the most accurately rated albums of all time.
it's one of those records people go on about, and you finally get it, expecting to be blown away or disappointed, and you are neither. then you listen to it a bit more, and are increasingly struck by its brilliance. then you start raving at other people about it, and the circle is complete.

I was one of the lucky few who was given it from a neutral (no pun intended) source. (It was my dad's friend. He discovered it and just said that it was a bit weird.)
After listening to it lots and thinking that it was possibly the best album ever, I realised that there is a massive indie community who agreed with me.
I was very happy.

is a massively overrated album. Do not listen to these fools. You will not "get" it. I'm still trying to get it 6 months on. I think people get all tied up into the story behind it and all the kerrazy abstract imagery he throws around. Singer is fist bitingly awful. Oh Comely makes it really, the rest is pretty alright.
