where did they play, and who else played?

i've still not been to a gig this year.

:(

Academy 1

with Eluvium.

Not impressed with the venue much but WHAT A BAND!

Had to get up at 5 this morning to get back to notts, mind.

yeah, the new Academy is horrible

i'm not sure what your thoughts on it were more than you not liking it, but it's seemed absolutely souless to me when i've been. it was still getting built the last time i went, and i like the calamitous nature of the portakabin bogs and the small passageway to them being crammed with smokers and excitable pissheads, but inside i just thought it was really awful. the acoustics are dreadful, the bars are pretty much a no-go area and overall i was just really really dissapointed, compared to Academy 2 it's an absolute shithole.

Well its the first time ive been

Effectively it was a giant soundproof box. The floorspace was vast and someone there should be told there isnt anything wrong with being able to SEE before a gig starts. Yeah, the bars were awful, and it felt like I was treated like livestock most of the night. Fortunatley the band was good enough to completely whisk me away from this.

the old academy 1

was awful so they must have done some pretty bad shit when they 'renovated' it. i have yet to grace the new done up building with my presence.

they were bloody good

about 3 times heavier than the last time i saw them though (not complaining)

They were amazing in

Bristol too - whoot!

All kinds of incredible...

...and the crowd were well behaved in all.

They played Academy 1 with Eluvium supporting.

they were

unbelievable!

They were amazing tonight.

This isn't a very interesting reply.

Yes yes yes

incredible show tonight. And Eluvium was stunning too.

<3s for EITS

Yes, they were bloody brilliant.

Really enjoyed Eluvium-especially the slide guitar parts.

During one part of EITS's set there was one moment of absolute awe when the guys had their guitars raised up ready for a huge crescendo, and you could feel the crowd were kinda startled. I'm not sure I've seen such a committed performer as the guy in the middle, he looked like he was about to die.

On a bad note though, I got really pissed off with people taking pictures and videos on their phones. It's really distracting when someone shoves a phone in front of your face and proceeds to record the stage for 10 minutes. What are they going to use them for really? Really?

I was lucky

in that I ended up sitting next to the two nicest people I've ever met at a show. They'd come all the way from Coventry on a coach and it turned out we had almost identical taste in music so spent the best part of an hour talking. It's kinda heartening when something like that happens, especially when most gigs are spent surrounded by people who talk incessantly, wave their phones around or spill beer everywhere.

hehhe

"so spent the best part of an hour talking"

"surrounded by people who talk incessantly"

;)

They were good...

...but I was a little underwhelmed.

The first time I saw them was the greatest live performance i've ever seen which is extraordinary seen as they only played for 40 minutes supporting Four Tet (who was awful that night). Was expecting an extended version the other night, but the venue is shocking and the crowd just seemed so detatched from what was going on. Moments of incredible majesty, but think I built it up in my head too much and was bound to be a little disappointed (I did book tickets about 10 years ago after all).

Also, Eluvium was not a hit with the crowd around me.

And I had to go to work at 6.30 the next day.

Boo.

i missed them on this current

tour, seen them few times before though. i remeber when they played with four tet in the mint lounge and i couldnt see the band apart from a head here and there. best time i saw them was at the night and day about 4 years ago was really rammed tho in ther! id liek to check out the new 'improved' academy 1 though, i wouldnt have thought a band like eits would play such a large venue

What I saw of the gig

was brilliant, although due to cruddy railway disruptions the last train was cancelled and we had to leave at ten. Eluvium was magical though :).

i didnt go

because nothing will ever beat being stood front and centre for them at brudenell a few years ago.

literally the most amazing thing i've ever seen. like watching/listening the end of the world unfold less than a metre away.

plus academy 1 is like an aircraft hanger
