WHY CLIPSE?

why is it that everybody on earth who doesn't like/know anything about hip-hop loves CLIPSE?
Seriously, like everyone in the world who owns 1000's of screamo cd's and first pressings of rare vietnamese gore-grind 10" flexidiscs claims that Clipse are amongst their favorite bands.
Firstly, they're really nothing special at all.
Secondly, there is really no cross-over appeal in Clipse at all! They're borderline crunk! I understand acts like Prefuse 73 or Dizzee Rascal getting attention from "rock crowds" but why Clipse?
i'm convinced they're all dirty liars.

I expect it's cos..

Clipse are quite good. and quite cool and quite accessible.

easy one, really.

what about the Clipse fans

who like/know hiphop?

Personally, I think they're half-decent rappers whose songs have great production and sometimes great lyrics. Plus their rapping has conviction and is relatively humour free.

by humour free

I mean no jokey songs or skits.

i see

what you guys mean
i just think it's a bit random is all
i'm not even criticising anyone's taste - i just think there are so many other hip hop bands that rock crowds would be drawn to before them ya know?
like i dunno, ugly duckling or something.

coz that one wiv Slim Thug is

I like Clipse but i listen to a fair amount of hip-hop. youre making me feel bad for liking them though.

The Neptunes

Pitchfork

i liked clipse

when i was sixteen or something, mostly cos i'd liked a lot of the neptunes stuff and heard them feature on a few songs, they were fun but i had enough of hearing about their crack dealing days. joy. but the neptunes influence made them really.
and then pharrel got all commercial and went out with jade jagger and everything went wrong.. but clipse. they're alright.

They were on a Justin Timberlake song

They have quite a colourful style - flash trainers and bright pastels, which Topshop/American Apparel indie fashions.

They are almost exclusively produced by the Neptunes, who have worked with No Doubt, Britney and a lot of other mainstream artists in the early 00s.

And also, most importantly, they're amazing!

not pac inspired

it's crack pot inspired..

that's a very good lyric. that whole album is fucking amazing.

Sux to be lonely

The record sales.....the digital scales....its whatever.

...

mf doom > clipse...i thought that was the obvious thing

first of all

i don't listen to much grim brutality. so i'm exempt.
second of all, i'd like to reiterate that i'm not actively criticizing anybody of being "obvious" - cuz that to me is the very definition of music snobbery (ahem).
i couldn't give a shit what's obvious, i'm just curious why this one band happens to be interesting a lot of metal/indie kids. just a question.
and obvious sometimes isn't bad.
anus.
