Im going through a horrible break up at the moment and when I listen to ELO on my Ipod on the way home 'Confusion' just hits me completely. See also Ella Fitzgerald 'Everytime We Say Goodbye'.

Last Goodbye - Jeff Buckley

I dunno that it's ever literally brought me to tears, but this seems like THE breakup-toon.

dream brother.

no idea why!

there is only one

song for you by gram parsons

its just beautiful and so full of emotion... hospital by the modern lovers sort of but thats because it reminds me of my mum being ill

Happy Tears

when i hear The Night Starts Here by Stars, Beatific Vision by Brakes. think of my G/F who i miss, she's in Australia

For some reason

the frog chorus - I found this out recently when it appeared on TMF. Hmmm

The Pogues - Broad Majestic Shannon

Its a beauty.

Soko

"I'll Kill Her" one for the jilted ladies

that song

actually cheers me up, because it makes me feel not-so-alone in rejection.

This exact same thing happened to me

but without the crying.

This too

as it was released around the time before Christmas when my friend was ran over and killed when I was young. Always reminds me of it when I hear it now.

Speck

by Mega City Four. Guaranteed to have me bawling

so cliche but...

'climbing up the walls' by radiohead.

it's just a very sad, desperate song.

Snow Patrol

The finish line. Every time.

Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio

i defy anyone to say there's been a better song written.

bees by animal collective

and daffy duck by them too.

the song islands version of the moon by the microphones

not actual tears im far too manly

also

britney spear's 'born to make you happy' - there's a story behind it involving my parents. pretty shocking though.

The Smiths - Asleep

Just the fragility of it all...

Well i'm going through

the same situation at at the moment and Desperado by The Eagles came on whilst inTesco's earlier and that ahd me welling up

it's a great piano line and melody.

Desperado

had me in bits recently. Was having a tough time with my girlfriend. Mainly because I'm an idiot and dont understand myself and blah blah blah. But great song.

Fantastic song

have been listening to a lot of Eagles recently.

Don Felder's new book is great....have a look at it.

oooh, lots

but most recently:

'you can't win' by dolorean [the simplest, starkest and most beautiful expression of futility i've heard in a song in a while]
'you don't know what love is' by chet baker
'soon after christmas' and 'little star' by stina nordenstam

No cunt

better mention Elliot Smith in this thread.

.

Arab Strap - 'Fucking Little Bastards' (depending on how drunk I am)
Nas - 'I Gave You Power'
Gat Decor - 'Passion'

'androgynous' by the replacements

often does this. especially at the bridge: "mirror image/ see no damage/ see no evil at all". it all just sounds so simple and fragile. plus the theme, sort 'love vs. the world', is pretty touching.

im feeling sad too.

not that i get joy out of it. sometimes its good to know other people are also sad. i hope your break up blues get better.

there are loads, when im in the right mood.

Barenaked Ladies - War on Drugs and The Flag
Jimi Hendrix - Angel
Doves - M62 Song
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (not cos im a douchebag, cos it was played at a funeral)
Some of the songs on Niandra LaDes and the DC EP.
Editors - Camera
Blur - Out Of Time used to occasionally get me going
The Vanity Project - Here Today and Yesterday, and sometimes By The Roadside.

God. Im in need of some kleenex.

And thats before I mention that all Hot Chip records make me cry in exasperation ;-)

Oh God

So very many

Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day/The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us

Neutral Milk Hotel - Holland 1945/In The Aeroplane Over The Sea/Two Headed Boy Part Two

LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends/Someone Great

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps

Magnetic Fields - 100,000 Fireflies

I'm such a wuss.

I'm obviously far too manly to ever cry.

But True Love Waits by Radiohead makes me blubber like a child.

Other songs in this category; Pedro the Lion - Options, Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit, Interpol - The New, Mogwai - Christmas Steps (personal connection) and a lot of Nick Drake.

For some reason

Empty cans by the streets (?????) always moves me to tears. So does hallelujah by leonard cohen and NOT jeff buckely

Kasabian - Empire

...well SOMEONE had to say it...

Losing Haringey - The Clientele

Not quite cry but brings me closer than any other song I've listened to.

...

Rainer Maria - Situation:Relation
Wheat - Don't I Hold you

Im going to add a couple more

Its funny when youre going through shit, songs sound so different

Elton John' Your Song' We came back drunk one night after obscene amounts of wine and I stuck this on.Its hard to imaging this was the same guy who would later record 'Nikita'

Also Badly Drawn Boy 'Nothings Gonna Change Your Mind'

Diner t Eight - Rufus Wainwright

No matter how strong
I'm gonna take you down
With one little stone
I'm gonna break you down
And see what you're worth
What you're really worth to me

^

Dinner at Eight*

EE

Eels - Electro-Shock Blues (the whole record)

Dan Deacon - Wham City

especially the bit where it goes all acapella then kicks in again

Elbow - Newborn

something changed

the strings get me EVERY time.

Crazy Frog - Beverly Hills Cop Tune

I like your Ella Fitzgerald liking though. Is that one a Gershwin track? I think tis.

gone away

the offspring

holy bible

made me cry first time i listened and read the lyrics...
fucked up that

none

is that unusual? Of course they make me feel sad but not to the point of tears.

crossroads

blazin' squad

Sorry to drag out threads up

but earlier, I was considering the question, and I couldn't think of a response. A suitable song has revealed itself to me.

Facades by Philip Glass. There's just something about the strings that come in around 1:20 that rub me up the wrong way, reminding me of a time I freaked out on something and this was playing in the background. And the Pavlov-esque response now is to be on verge of breaking down (shudder)

You may let this thread sink again.
