finally

:) cheap sunday afternoon cd purchases again

Hurrah!

Missed you Fopp.

(even though I'd prefer Bath to Bristol)

OH MY FUCKING

GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best news ever

Bit surprised I didnt know it though seeing as I am a retail agent by trade, love Fopp, work near this store (and didnt know waterstones had shut), and have been involved in buying out one of the other branches!

Oooops.

YES

poor waterstones but YAY fopp!

you dont even like reading books

just putting them in order. pfft

oh gosh

maybe they will need some help moving the books. I could help them organise everything. wow. books.

wow

that's pretty

I FUCKING LOVE FOPP HOWEVER....

it has cost me a fortune since the one in Byers rd Glasgow opened back up.
Its like a magnetic pull anytime you are out and about you just have to go in and spend.
But it is fucking amazing!

Tell me about it

Although despite living just down the road, I tend to find myself in the Union Street one more these days. I tend to get so frickin hacked off with the west-end mums with their bloody land-rover prams in Byres Road when I go in there (mostly on Saturdays).

This is tomorrow

There are free live sets from Be Your Own Pet (at noon) and Delays (at 5). Not bothered about the former but the latter are really good live...

ayeee

my band supported them last time they played in bristol...woo.

but yeah, fopp fopp and away!!

now reopen in southampton

and all is well.

^ REALLY?

GIVE MY OLD JOB BACK!

is the one

in southampton re-opening?

So...

What's the story with Fopp? I saw the one in Seven Dials has opened again but I'm not sure I understand why... I thought they went bust? I don't really understand business so can someone please explain?

I believe that

HMV bought them and re-opened a few of the original shops - like the one near Covent Garden in London.

More live sets

Frank Turner on Saturday at noon. Also free.

Ace

!

^ great new

going to try and hit these shows.

in my

suit

yay

in bristol?

whaaa!

thats forking awesome news!

Right, can we have the Fopp in Guildford re-opened now?

Because it's a one-fucking-record-store town, now. Even if Fopp's now owned by HMV, at least there will be a choice again.

Having said that, open a Fopp in Derby, too. Same story. One HMV, that's yer lot.

And the Cardiff one, please.

I miss it so.

Only one store in Derby?

What happened to Reveal Records? Did they shut down? Please say not!!!

I went in yesterday.

Peep Show series 4 for £5!

Fuck yeah!

Cant wait to get back to going to Fopp every single lunchtime.

have they still got all Sonic Youth stuff really cheap?

I have about 3 albums I need to complete their entire discography (including deluxe editions, fact fans)

Oh god I cant wait for tomorrow

SY for £5? Oh please make it be like the halcyon days of 2005.

The one in London did

when I checked the other day.

OMG.

GET ME TO A FOPP RIGHT NOW.

Has anyone been in yet?

I'll be popping in tonight.

love the fopp...

...but you've gotta laugh at their business management. yes, fine, get exciting about your new hmv killing music retail chain but don't go putting up shops everywhere two or three times over to try and straggle the competition. that's just silly. costs will out do the little profit they must rake in by a ton of fleetwood mac cds.

just read that article that's linked in the original post and was amazed that bristol used to have three fopps!!! three!!! i don;t bristol even has three tescos! crazy! on top of that bath used to have a fopp cafe! not seen them anywhere else and while it's a fantastic idea selling beer while you look round the shop/sit on a plush leather couch while a band plays in front of you (sure the mystery jets were there once) leave the gig promotions and the alcohol vending to eavis and budweiser for a little bit while you learn how to manage your books.

if they hadn't shot their load so early we could have been enjoying cheap cds, dvds and more importantly fantastically contemporary literature for the price of an expensive pint.

i do love them but their plight has made me chuckle.

The cafe was in Bristol, not Bath

But yes - expanding from one branch to three at a time when record sales are falling = a bit daft.

Cafes

In bristol and Bath.

And others.

Ah

I must have missed the Bath one, or it was added since my last visit.

My bad.

Bristol has 3 tesco shops

within around a 500 metre stretch. Corn Street--Prudential Buildings--Broadmead

4

Opposite bus station.

haha...

...was only using the tesco image as an example. the cafe was a fun idea though.

The one in Nottingham makes me laugh

It was only closed for about 5 minutes before they were bought and reopened - but you often find cds in there with HMV price stickers on the back (say, for £13) and a Fopp £5 sticker on the front. Brilliant.

going now...

give it 15 mins...

So...

This is open now? I am going to Bristol on Saturday to see a bit of Midnight Juggernauts and want to waste...nay invest money in a ton of records.

Went at lunchtime

I could have cried

with

joy

just got back

bought just one cd, but it was fun searching

Is

it as good as it used to be?

BYOP played today at 12

but yeh still that fun browsing feeling was there

apart from not having any ' the warlocks' albums

I really hope

They finally open the one in Leeds they intended to before the bust.

I want a job.

The Manchester one

has reopened I've heard. Maybe the world isn't such a bad place after all.

Delays set in Bristol was fun

Was surprised it was a full plugged-in performance. Will be back for Frank Turner on Saturday - never heard his solo stuff, just going by the word-of-mouth stuff from here.

Only bought one CD - Outkast's "Idlewild" for £3. Haven't listened to it yet and gather it's not their best, but it's the one I'm missing so there you go.

Frank Turner Saturday @ 12

Who be coming down?

I went

I hadn't heard the solo stuff and didn't know what to expect. It was (don't hit me) fairly standard singer/songwritery stuff I thought, bar the fact that he's got an astonishing set of pipes on him. Still, good fun and gave me an excuse to lose another 9 quid from my bank account - series 2 and 3 of Little Britain and Brian Wilson's autobiography. Nice.

i didnt buy anything-i am poor

but it was nice to be in a Fopp again and FT was awesome

Singles - New Order for a fiver

Oh how I love Fopp

I went to the one in covent garden yesterday

After going to Rough Trade East and being sorely disappointed by their stock and prices.

I got Husker Du - Everything Falls Apart and Nations of Ulysses - 13 Point Program to Destroy America for 15 quid. I love Fopp, just because they carry stuff at fairly reasonable prices which nowhere else does. I'm kind of regretting not buying Locust Abortion Technician for a fiver.
