So, in preparation for the fast approachin (sort of) Hefner gig at the 100 club in June, I am making Hefner introductory compilation for my friend who will be accompanying me, and who likes darren hayman, but who has never heard a hefner album before.

I was thinking...

Hymn For The Cigarettes
Hello Kitten
the sad witch (live)
to hide a little thought
pull yourself together
when the angels play their drum machines
the nights are long
she can't sleep no more (live
the librarian
trouble kid
the greedy ugly people
the day that thatcher dies (lie)
don't flake out on me
good fruit
i stole a bride
anne & bill
I love only you

Hmmmmm?

Hefner gig?

tell me more pls!

w

definitely add

Destroyed Cowboy Falls

Surely

it's quite easy to make an introduction for that gig because they're chiefly going to be playing The Fidelity Wars?

Oh really?

I wasn't aware if that. I suppose it makes sense that it would be slanted towards the FW since the gig is commemorating its release.

I'm pretty sure...

...Darren won't just be playing Fidelity Wars from start to finish. Especially since he's playing with Jack, who officially wasn't a member of Hefner until Boxing Hefner.

And you need to put The Science Fiction on that mix tape, oh yes...

You should do a compilation made up only

of 'Hymn For...' tracks since the tracklisting would be aesthetically pleasing when written out.

I Took Her Love For Granted

and Twisting Mary's Arm

I'd add (titles may not be correct):

Hmyn For The Alcohol
Hymn For All The Things We Didn't Do
King of the Summer (it's about the only song I can bear off Dead Media!)
Lee Merick
Painting and Kissing
From Your Head To Your Toe
Another Better Friend

You should basically just make the friend copies of the first three 'proper' albums + boxing hefner + selected highlights from Catfight. They should have released a proper B-sides round up thing by now including that strange religious EP thing.

Hmm

I do like another better friend and lee merrick. I think they're releasing all the albums on 2cds together with all the bsides.

Yeah,

I'm the kind of strange person who objects to paying £12 for a double CD of album I own and B-sides, whereas if they just released the B-sides CD for £12 i'd probably buy it. Madness on my part!

If you go on emusic

or maybe even itunes, you can just download the second cd if you want.

Very good...

...idea. I've only just discovered Emusic today. I feel like i'm slowly catching up with technology.

Trouble Kid surely?!

But yeah, Dead Media isn't my favourite.

Actually, I always quite liked

peppermint kiss for some reason. It's probably not as bad as I remember but it was the first album I bought and it put me off Hefner for ages. Then a friend made me a compilation tape which made me see sense. Back in the day when tapes still existed!

I like dead media quit a lot

althought the final track is a bit cringeworthy. i think I prefer it to We Love The City with its stupid production.

Have you got

'Wicker Girl'?

Also that album needs 'Hymn for the Coffee' and 'Painting and Kissing'. Really good mix though.

don't think I've got that

I just listened painting and kissing and might try and squeeze it on.

Christian Girls

Hymn for the Things We Didn't Do
Hymn for the Postal Service

Man, I tend to forget just how many great songs Hefner/Darren Hayman wrote.

RE

Lee Remick and A Better Friend are personal favs so they should be on there. Oh and Christian Girls!
