but I suppose it wasn't a question...

I will listen later !

There are touring France soon

A gig in Paris

same French label as Motehrtrucker

Might go

don't know where the peniche alterna is as it's a place that play essentially hardcore bands as far as I know...

Someone said

"What came next, however, was so spectacular and powerful it could have soundtracked the moon’s conversion from a glowing, white golf ball into a fearsome, reddish planet. io’s brand of post-rock manages to meld Explosions in the Sky’s melodic, delicate guitars with Isis’ metal sensibility resulting in an explosive, spine-tingling set which blew the crowd away".

Earth

Bees made honey in the lions skull

lovely title, that.

Seconded

Fantastic album. Their best since Earth 2?

Charlottefield - What Are Friends For

Jaw-droppingly brilliant

/\ this

and also...

kong - snake magnet

Seconds for...

Earth. Brilliant. and dead good at the Underworld the other night.

Also, The Magnetic Fields' "Distortion".

is the kong album out?

when, where, why wasnt i informed?

or are you one of those sneaky promo types?

100% yes

awesome album, slowly but surely overtaking how long are you staying as my fave

the only album i've heard released this year

is the times new viking one. so it's that ....

Evangelicals - The Evening Descends

Uhm, I listened to Mr Traynor's link. Kinda IsisPelican-ish and really how can you tell those bands apart? I dunno, not my cuppa really.

I still gotta get TNV and Magnetic Field's cos I've really liked the tracks I've heard.

Earth and Atlas Sound

It'd be unfair to choose between them.

It's gonna some kind of ironic world John

if the two of us end up in the same old folks home gumming our peas together. haha!!

Black Mountain

Has really grown on me unexpectedly. Also agree with the above that Earth album is ace

^^

very good album !

this is the only 2008 LP i've heard

and it certainly aint great.

It's ok, good even. But hella overrated

Sascha Funke- Mango

everyone ought to check this out..

has a vibe similar (in parts) to The Field album, otherwise just really excellent.

also, Autistici - Volume Objects..
anyone who liked Set Fire To Flames will love it

First great LP?

Los Campesinos - Now Hold On, Youngster...

That's all there is to it. The album has me floored. I'd never listened before listening to the album, and I haven't really been able to stop listening. At all.

Hot Chip- Made in the Dark

there are at least ten potential number one hits on this record. i counted.

that album

is awesome

another

vote for atlas sound here...addictive album

MGMT.

Oracular Spectacular.

^^^^

BSP?

Xiu Xiu?

ASMZ?

Why?

Alopecia

yeah

great

I like it more than Elephant Eyelash

the mountain goats

heretic pride.
it's miles better than their last one. maybe not quite as good as the sunset tree but still pretty brilliant indeed.

45.33 LCDSS

I love the intro synth madness.

Buuuut

that's not new?

I'd say

The Magnetic Fields.

And with any luck my second will be Elbow next month.

My vote goes to....

Drive By Truckers - Brighter Than Creations Dark

Yep... a real return to form

for Stephen after all his recent messing around. Such a great sound.

beach house

or times new viking

Atlas Sound

..brill

First great EP of 2008

for me is In loving memory of Let's Wrestle....

Midnight Boom.

^

Retracting this statement.

I haven't been privileged enough to hear one yet.

My two penneth:

Either The Mae Shi or Magnetic Fields.

frank turner

love ire and song

Elbow

The Seldom Seen Kid

^this

the best album of the year for me so far
can only see it getting better and better too

r.e.m's accelerate was a pleasant suprise aswell although not sure it'll make my end of year list

Second that

The Following:-

Lightspeed Champion
Los Campesinos!
and Laura Marling.

I bought them all on the same day, so they all count.

is this out?

can't wait to hear it either way

It's out in Australia...

and I got the import for my brother for his birthday (after burning myself a copy of course!)

nothing approaching 10/10 so far

but the Los Campesinos, Why?, REM and Mountain Goats albums have all been really good.

Sun Kill Moon - April

followed by Charlottefield - what are friends for, Boris - smile and the new Half Man Half Biscuit when it eventually comes out and get named.

Born Ruffians

Bon Iver

For sure.

The Mae Shi or Why?

Most probably.

Honorary mentions to Earth and Black Mountain.

I'm a big fan of

Beach House - Devotion

but someone has to say this one:

Foals - Antidotes

nah, it's a bit of a letdown

it is good. But it in no way lives up to the hype. And it sounds increasingly like a poor mans Q And Not U.

But a poor mans Q And Not U is still damn good.

I dunnnno

Sun Kil Moon - April
Mystery Jets - 21
Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell
Somebody Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin - Pershing
Fleet Foxes - Ragged Wood

American Music Club - The Golden Age

The Golden Age just edging ahead of Vampire Weekend at the mo.

Sun Kil Moon

April
and the new REM seems to be fairly great too. happy days.

correction

on 4th listen the new rem is astonishingly great.

agreed.

took a few listens to get this, but seriously, it is fan-freaking-tastic.

Man Man

Rabbit Habits

<3

I believe so too.

(and The Seldom Seen Kid).

Unfortunately

I haven't yet released an LP in 2008. It will be great when I do, though.
