Bands that have been hijacked by awful subcultures.

Led Zep

I was sitting in this lovely bar in town last night, listening to loooooooads of absolutely wonderful Led Zep records one after the other, drinking sweet beautiful Erdinger. I think its a tragedy that they're associated with greasy beardy losers who are into Megadeath and all that silly music. They're essentially a blues band, and aren't anything like the rest of that evil style of music.

The Stone Roses

Again, really well-crafted beautiful music. They were obviously really talented people. But they're now associated with either these fake mods that think they're Liam Gallagher, or skinhead fat bastards that walk around in gangs and shout things at people.

Led Zep

I hate how the rock has been hijacked by the the tasteful cloudy beer subculture.

Led Zep are everything thats bad about pop music

bloated, pompus and self indulgent tripe

Maybe that's because they're not pop music.

They didn't even release any singles.

pop - oxford english dictionary definition

music of general appeal esp. amoung young people, that originated as a distinctive genre in the 1950s. Characterised by a heavy rythmic element and electrical amplification.

... seems like a pretty apt description of Led Zep to me

Either way,

they are an exceptional band.

Describes almost everything

You're arguing that anything acoustic cannot be pop?

Even the self-titled album?

I think that album is brilliant.

they arent the worst

they make nice well produced pop music which if it wasnt totally overplayed would be alright

The first album is a stone-cold classic

That is the fact of the matter here, nothing more, nothing less

deftones?

maybe?

bell end city

i know all the above is opinion, but some of the people who post here have no idea what so ever.

Whorror

Leviathan, Xasthur, Sunn O))) etc. suddenly seem to be all the rage with the so called hipster crowd, not that it's a bad thing just a tad inexplicable.

Moz

attracted beer swilling football chanting Rod Stewart lookalikes. In Donny at least. Was most distressed and took away some of the magic.

Dear god...

it was horrble wasn't it?

I'm sure I heard one shout for him to get his cock out at one point.

lol'd. Seriously,

All the way through How Soon is Now all I could hear was a couple arguing about what they were having for dinner! Not what I was expecting the Morrissey clientèle to be like.

NIN?

because I like them and their "hardcore fans" scare me.

hahahaha

when i saw them at the Astoria it was all GOTHS! GOTHS EVERYWHERE! i was stood behind some 40 year old bald one who kept shouting the lyrics AND POINTING WITH HIS FINGER IN THE AIR CAUSE HE REALLY MEANT IT MAN.

Hahahha

foals

foals foals foals

^this

what subculture

are foals associated with?
the NME band?

(not taking the mick, i actually don't know.)

yeah, the whole Skins/Nu-rave

Like em cos their cool thing. Obviously they aint a 'math rock' band but a lot of the people at the gigs....eesh.

music nazis

in this thread. loads of em.

minor threat

?

nah

.

Klaxons

.

^this band

has made reading pynchon or ballard in public nigh on impossible for the forseeable future because you will invariably be taken for a hipster.

get over it

don't read in public. or grow up.

Yeah

'Ooh I can't read this in public, people will think I am a 'hipster...'

Do you realise how fucking stupid you sound?

We all have little paranoias

that just happens to be mine.

klaxons

absolutely

*megadeth

and no one links them to led zep. you silly.

Why do you care ?

Listen to what you like and don't bother about who else might like them.

'Lovely bar'?

You're from Burnley.

This story doesn't ring true!

I am also from Burnley...

... and can confirm that there are, in fact, no 'lovely bars' at all.

Well, the bar in the Mechanics (theatre/concert venue) isn't bad, but that isn't open to the general public (I think....).

There is one lovely bar.

Serving a selection of Continental beers and playing wonderous music for my picky ears.

would that be

the bridge?
i'm not from burnley but my girlfriend in, and the bridge is lovely.

Bright Eyes/Emo

It's a shame to lump BE with shite groups like Good Charlotte.

nobody does that

surely?

Good Charlotte are emo now?

Jeepers.

It's bizarre, the elasticity with which 'emo' (in it's contemporary faux incarnation)

is treated.

Simple Plan and Good Charlotte were just second rate major label pop punk that washed in with the wake from Sum 41's chart success which in turn was just rehashing what every single band on Epitaph/Fat Wreck/Lookout/Fearless and countless other labels had been doing since the late 80s/early 90s.

emo just means

fringes, black jeans and stripey t-shirts now though.. its more a look than a sound

same with

new rave.

it doesn't exist as a musical genre - just a fashion.

emo

things which wouldve just been called goth 10 years ago are now called emo, just because thats the current popular image. my friends claim my housemate is emo, just because he has a fringe...even though he mostly listens to novelty europop...

skrewdriver

....Although in a sense that is true.

In their original incarnation they weren't a racist band.

It was only when Skrewdriver was resurrected with one original member after a 2 year hiatus that the whole race hate thing came about.

Marc Riley of BBC radio fame used to play in Skrewdriver, bizarrely.

No he didn't.

Mark Radcliffe did.

i'm studying

music related subcultures for my degree right now.

I just have to pick one, hmmm

Led Zep

probably one of the worst bands ever. I'd rather listen to Skrewdriver at their racist prime.

what you said

Oh really, judging by your artist ratings; you should know.

was marc riley

not in the fall for a very brief stint?

More than

just a brief stint - Check the cover of 'In a Hole'

jewdriver

rule the earth.

vegan reich

but they were nutters themselves

minor threat

and militant straightedgers. maybe.

yes!

Nirvana

Sabotaged by horrible metallers.

cky

testing is such a cool tune. gtfo bam.

Panic At The Disco

Ignore Brendon Uri(n)e's annoying posing, and his mildly irritating voice (which I got used to after a while), and they are infact a very good band. It's just their fans are some of the most dreadful people in existance.

'essentially a blues band'

no, they were 70s rock. Which was blues influenced. Also, I've never heard Megadeth say they like Led Zep.

And The Stone Roses were utter shite.

My offering is Brand New, who are all too frequently lumped in with the nu-emo mob. When they are at least 100x better.

Could

say the same about Ramones, you know with all these trendy little gits going round wearing the tshirts who have never been anywhere near a Ramones CD, never mind a gig

black flag

and braindead scener-than-thou knuckle dragging 'hardcore' tough guys who think it's all about the violence.
