Chris Moyles played Foals this morning.

I bet he's regretting going "actually, nah" when Yannis said "I think we should go in a more poppy direction".

chris moyles played reel big fish once

=

not sure what my point is

Wasn't really approval

it was on the playlist and he said something like "Oh i bet this is really cool and so hot right now" in a sarcastic way

I just wonder if andrew mears is secretly kicking himself a little for thinking "actually, i'd like to make music that's not quite as instantly appealing"

(not that Foals have "sold out" or anything, i can't be arsed with this turning into a Foals-bashing thread... Though i'll reserve judgement after I hear the album. I desperately want it to be still interesting after numerous listens, but...)

They're playlisted

So it's not necessarily Moyles' approval.

I do have an odd mental image of him dancing to it though.

but surely

he isn't that interested in getting played on Chris Moyles?

are you now?

look at _yes' response to redsleepingrichey. He wasn't really being sarcastic now was he.

I'm going to cut you for that. Every time you look in the mirror you'll rue this day!

My sarcasm detector appears to be malfunctioning.

Just like your face.

much like your penis?

you flaccid, limp fool.

I dont know actually, i think i've finally managed to take Sarcasm to a new level

I wasn't being sarcastic: the sentiment behind it wasnt malicious, but the comment was, if that makes sense.

I'm so amazing.

I doubt it

he's still in a good band. Probably happy for his friends, no?

man that's so unfair

foals are awful and youthmovies have been making that sound for years and making it more like interesting and stuff, they aren't ripping off countless other bands making mediocre we got a gcse math shapes and something. jeeez!

Foals Cassius

is b-listed on radio 1 so it's going to be played a few times a day.

It's edith boremans record of the week too.

i think 679

are the ones who are gutted.

Futureheads A-listed!

yeh

but at least his band aren't completely shit

Why?

That's like saying I bet he's gutted he isn't in Take That. Sure, he was in Foals, but it's not his band anymore because he'd rather be doing Youthmovies. I hardly think he left Foals because he thought that Youthmovies had a better chance of being played on Radio One did he? Not everyone makes music in the hope that they'll one day win a Brit award. I'd rather be Andrew Mears than any indie-dancefloor-filler bandmember in the world, he's quite clearly an incredible musician and is making brilliant, intelligent music.

Ok, you are in two small bands

One is more post-rock/proggy orientated, whilst the other shares much the same themes but is slightly more "danceable". You decide to concentrate on the former band, and quit the latter. The latter suddenly become very succesful, not only in the world which the former band inhabits, but in the world that Mika inhabits.

You:
A. Don't give a shit. Not at all. Not even the slightest. You do not care that you could potentially have been involved in your music reaching many more people than it does already.

B. Whilst you are more than happy with your artistic decisions and feel that you have been true to your "artistic integrity" and wishes, there is a slight pang of regret that you passed up the opportunity to potentially reach many more people than you do.

C. You cry yourself to sleep every night for not getting an angular haircut, tightening your guitar strap a bit and jumping from the youthmovies ship.

I'd say it's quite obviously B.

Ok, well i suspect it's B

I don't really care, i was just wondering how a musician or artist would react in this context.
The most "artist" approach would be A, but i'd say that, whilst the ideal, it would be pretty impossible to achieve because of being human 'n shit. C is reserved for really crap sellout idiots, but as neither yannis, andrew mears or the members of respective bands (probably - i don't know who writes the songs in them. Whatever) are crap musicians, it's not really an option either.

http://www.raymears.com?

You'd rather be Ray Mears?

I guess you'd have great survival capabilities in unforgiving environments. Definitely a CVable skill.

I'm interested

to know what kind of music Ray Mears would turn out. I think it would surprise us all.

He's already on board for Scarlett Johansson's follow up album

He brings a lot to the table. Mainly dead animals, so he considers himself a percussionist.

Ah makes sense

I doubt a synthesiser would have much use in the wilderness.

Thats not what happened

DAWG. UR FACTS IS SOO WRONG LIKE OMG ITZ TE INTERNETZZZ, WIKI THAT SHIT!!!!!11118!!

If

Andrew Mears cared more about being played on radio 1 than following his idea of what music he wanted to make, he'd make far less interesting stuff than he does. I'd take Youthmovies over some of the dirge that's played on radio 1 (not saying Foals are dirge, I really quite like them).

There may be a pang of regret, but I doubt he's fucking gutted. He's probably psyched that his mates have done well for themselves.

Plus, ok not by Moyles (which isn't really a symbol of "making it" or whatever), TNGIAM has been played on Radio 1.

I say "some"

I mean "just about everything".

i thought they changed because he left

so if he stayed in the band they'd sound different and be less commercially successful, probably.
