So at Joiners in Southampton last night some twit threw a glass or bottle or something at Todd, cutting his lip. This wasn't cool, and he stormed off for a bit (cue drum solo from William) then came back on, bitched a bit, then they played.
Anyway, let's talk about bands having stuff thrown at them. Got any stories?
Also, they're not playing Leicester tonight now 'cause apparently Todd can't sing. In case that affects you.

other way around...
but youth movies threw a rape alarm into the audience at their first gig.
hit a girl in the head. knocked her out.
When i saw Yeah Yeah Yeahs
a couple of years ago, The Locust supported and everyone in the crowd boo'd them so the bassist was sick into a cup and threatened to throw it over the front row (me) but then threw it all over himself instead.
ew yeah
was that at birmingham? i was there too!
yeah
it was! YYY's were good! were you at the front aswell?
When I saw Youthmovies last
Someone threw a bouncy ball at them, and it bounced around the stage and Andrew caught it. It kept going back and forth between the audience in the crowd. I almost hit Al's pedals when I chucked it (fortunately I missed).
I think Andrew put it in his mouth at one point and spat it back into the crowd. There may have been a second one.
there
were many bouncy balls and they are playing norwich again soon.
Andrew handed me his guitar on the oxford date so he could get back on the stage, that was a bit weird.
rolo tomassi say
"last night someone in the crowd through a bottle at the stage during cubscout's set and it hit todd in the face, cutting his cheek and the inside of his mouth aswell as leaving him with a lip as fat as a plum. this morning he struggled to speak let alone sing and so the show has been pulled."
Who pays money for gigs to throw stuff at the bands? That's stupid.
.
I had a bra the other night. But the owner was super fat.
Swings and roundabouts?
Well it depends on how fat she was.
You could probably make a swing out of it but not a roundabout.

Lame, that's the last thing Todd deserves.
I threw a twix at the guitarist from The Kennedy Soundtrack once, i feel bad and its the only thing i've ever thrown but they deserved it, they were SO shit.
see, if i was a twat, i'd of thrown something at
i was a cub scout the other night... awful awful awful band. but im not... so i just left.
and you went to the show why?
rolo tomassi + lovvers
good reasons
saw lovvers at camden the other week, really good!
so at the very least you recognise that cub scout have good taste
good on ya.
/slash/ have the same manager as RT
hahaha
The Kennedy Soundtrack came and played a gig at my school when I was in year 9.
It was terrible.
that sucks!
i've never heard of any trouble at the joiners before!
It's complicated...
Well not complicated as such, but Todd threw a glass out into the crowd, not maliciously, but presumably someone didn't take kindly to it. And he screwed himself over a bit when he tried to explain it when he came back on, "I was just trying to get it out of the way of the stage, you didn't need to throw something back."
Um, what? There wasn't enough room on the stage for a glass? Anyway, he probably shouldn't have thrown it in the crowd, but equally someone shouldn't have thrown something back at him with the intention of causing PAIN.
what, a pint glass?
i know the joiners isn't exactly a massive venue but there's only two of them for fucks sake!
sounds like he was asking for it if what you say is true
He sounds a right cock
.
agreed
.
reading last year
saw the singer from panic at the disco catch a bottle in his eye and fall like a sack of shit.
good times
oh yes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YHLPjEQL0A
I threw maltesers at Tellison once
But they did ask for some.
Also, you were there I think lukey.
Poor Todd. <3
hahaha
these bottling antics are making me chuckle. any other good bottling stories? my favourite is david bowie getting hit in the eye with a lolly pop.
Why is it funny?
Even though I'm not at all keen on any of the bands mentioned above, I'd never want to see them being bottled.
Grow up.
where do you draw the line though?
because seeing people like Towers of London and 50 Cent bottled definitely IS funny
!
I draw the line where people are able to play a show, and others are able to attend it without fear of intimidation, violence, sexism, racism... regardless of inferred musical integrity or lack of it.
I don't see why that's such a bad thing to expect.
but if Todd did in fact throw a glass in the audience
doesn't that count as violence? if a glass hit someone in the head that could be pretty nasty
Yeah
and....
It's like the Aesop fable of the Dog in the Manger often though
Some cunts deciding because they don't like someone no-one else should enjoy it either.
The 50 Cent bottling was totally pathetic for example. It was a festival with several stages and a list of stage times which is pretty easy to acquire. There was no reason why anyone should be in front of the stage watching 50 Cent unless they wanted to see him (or unless they wanted to be at the front for the next act but then that's entirely their decision and not an excuse for bottling someone you already knew was gonna be on).
50 Cent, by all counts, performed pretty much exactly as one would expect 50 Cent to perform, so no-one could even claim it was a bad show by him. It was just basically a bunch of selfish twats deciding they didnt want to see 50 Cent so no-one else should either.
This isn't to say 50 Cent is not a twat and I sure as hell wouldn't want to see him live but that doesn't change how moronic, selfish and pathetic the people bottling him were.
Ultimately, if there ever is a justification for throwing bottles at someone (I don't think there is) it would be that the act was woefully under-performing. If there's a gig where the act just isn't your thing you should either
a) Leave and let the other people who want to see the act enjoy it
or
b) If you don't want to leave then shut the fuck up, accept it's your own decision to put yourself through watching this act you don't want to see and let the other people who want to see the act enjoy it.
this
some people deserve it
according to the bulletin just posted by IWACS
he threw 2 glasses into the crowd and hit 2 girls, so he got 2 glasses thrown back at him.
fair game really.
any other bottling etc is out of order
when Davids Bowie
got that lillipop thrown in his eye
I read this thread
and that out of curiosity I read their Myspace message:
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=17803568&blogID=360990906
"two glasses were at the tip of the stage which i atempted to wear as glasses (eyes) which i then tossed in to the air which was obviously the crowd.
(i was told after the show had finished that i hit some young ladies"
followed by someone asking, "oh todd, why did you throw glass? :(", he gave the reply, "im a badass".
I've no idea who this band is, but I can safely say that their singer is a prize cock.
What a fucking idiot.
It serves him right.
Win
butler being hit by a shoe at nottingham area last year gig was amazing aswell
What was amazing about it?
Were you amazed that it was so incredibly retarded?
"WHO throws a shoe?!"
:)
It was awful.
did
it ever come into your mind that there could be a hint of sarcasm in that comment?
No
...
coool
i was a cunt scout
It Was A Scout Hut
i was a cunt, scouting for girls
White Stripes SECC 2003
In the middle of a song someone threw a shoe?? And it hit Jack White
Square in the chest. It was so bad you herd the thud right thru the PA.
He just stopped then started playing again like it was normal
That was an odd gig a 2 piece band plying the Secc and I remember these Neds Doing a “Neddy” dance to seven nation army it made me cringe thinking twats
Like these buy this music.
Hellogoodbye
getting "quarters" thrown at their heads at Rock City. Never thought I'd see the day when a Taking Back Sunday crowd forced another band off stage, but they were wank and it was hilarious.
"We're leaving the stage now because I just got hit in the side of the head with a quarter and as we all know the temple is a very sensitive area", said the singer.
"Hahahahaha, you absolute nob", said the crowd.
Not that I condone such behaviour.
I think Todd got caught up in the moment.
I can vouch that is a nice fellow.
Sounds about right
Yup.
Nice fellows
Wouldn't throw glasses off a stage, unless he's very simple. He sounds a cock.
a few..
i've thrown a bogroll at Johnny Borrell at the charlotte years ago..i was at nottingham when Win Butler got a shoe/bottle/cup in the face - i'm still not sure what it was, i was at nottingham years ago when someone threw water over the mixing desk during Australia by the Manics - although that was probably justified
The Joiners
The guys that did it looked like right scrappy fuckers.... hurrah for plastic glasses!
On another note, Rolo Tomassi were awesome, utter brilliance and fair play to IWACS for choosing them as support.
Luke - I'm amazed you can remember any of it!
Grinderman
At ATP last year, someone threw an apple onstage. "here Nick," said Warren Ellis, "some cunt threw an apple."
It may have been an orange.
I threw some shapes at the
Sheffield Dizzee Rascal gig last Monday.
It was an apple
Nick: 'This next song is for......?'
Warren: 'The cunt that threw the apple!'
Nick: 'The cunt that threw the apple!'
What actually happened
There's a whole lot of horribleness in this thread and as one of the girls who got 'hit' by a glass i would just like to point out that Todd did not throw them at the crowd he threw them at the wall at the side of the stage where they bounced off and hit me and a friend and caused no injury at all - and we got an apology in person several times.
The person who hit Todd with a bottle/glass in the face was not doing it coz he threw stuff at girls - he was a cunt who threw something as hard as he could into Todd's face causing some horrible injuries. Maybe he thought that as something had been thrown it was a free for all but it was completely out of order.
I for one think Todd is a star for coming back on at all and i feel very sorry for those who have to wait to catch them live now.
cheers
at least we know that it wasn't todd's fault!
the guy who threw it is a wanker.
Horrors @ reading last year
accumulated quite a collection of shoes, none thrown maliciously i don't think (well maybe the first) it just caught on.
and someone threw
a pint of something which landed on the synth and the synthist just picked it up and drunk it. . .
also some kid tried to beat the lead singer up when he was down near the crowd!
