Anyone in a band brave enough to submit their music to review by my class of Year 9s?

I run a class on writing about music for Year 9 at a school in Kent. Recently we've been listening to a few bands advertised on these threads in a 'what do you think of my band?' type way.

If you are in a band and what to know what a bunch of adolescents make of your music (you can trust them to be honest (painfully so in some cases)) please post a link to your streaming myspace site (or whatever) with your band name / genre etc.

I run the class at 4pm on Thursdays so expect to get some feedback then.

Haha this sounds fun

Would be good to hear what they think of these tracks:

www.myspace.com/wearepictures

How old is year 9?

13/14

Many thanks

First and so far only person to have manned up to the extent required.

Come on everyone else! I want a wide variety of stuff for them to discuss and write about. If I have to hear another presentation on Paramore I may well kill myself.

SHITTALKER

www.myspace.com/shittalkerleeds

What are you going to tell them we're called?

haha

an awful band called 'pickled dick' played at our secondary school when i was in about year 9; they had to be renamed 'pickled d'

Oh christ, were they pop-punk types

from Hampshire/New Forest?

Unforunately they're still around peddling their inept blend of Fat Wreck Chords circa 1995 2 chord wank.

yup

those are the ones. In their defence, it must take a lot of 'courage' to continue ploughing away down such an obvious dead end

I've seen them

:(! They were supporting someone, they were scary! :(!

haha

the lead singer has terrifying hair and had a t shirt on reffering to how he looks like sideshow bob

I will have to be discrete.

Our school has a policy on expelling students who swear. What they'd do to a teacher who promoted swear-based indie tunes I have no idea. Kill me.

...

'pootalker' doesn't have quite the same impact

Number Two Talker

Could in fact be a po-faced (no pun intended) Art Film.

haha this is amazing

one of my songs says cunt, but just don't play them that one.

Get them to review our upcoming single 'Change The Record'!

www.myspace.com/4or5magicians

oh we're like early 90's style guitar driven alt-pop

or something along those lines.

Sure!

I'm in Hadouken.

unlucky

:(

Myband have broken up anyway

so I don't really mind having them review this, and given we were only a year older than them when we wrote all of this it doesn't really matter anyways...

Ice, Sea, Dead People - Punk(ish)

www.myspace.com/iceseadeadpeople

This sounds interesting! We once had someone say we should "go back to whatever primary school we came from and learn how to play our instruments"... !

i didn't put it quite like that...!

haha - we're playing together by chance on the 4th and 5th April it looks like - very looking forward to this!

Ta everyone so far

Great to hear a variety of new stuff and even greater to inflict it on the younger generation.

Will post to everyone they review thursday afternoon.

There is something horribly wrong or very right

about this. All I remember from being 14 is geometry, for all the good knowing what an "acute angle" is has done me. MrScagdenSir, you've gotta be the coolest teacher on the planet!

ha.....

....yes i am so up for this

*gulp*

www.myspace.com/wasasuperhero
www.myspace.com/abeastlayslain

That second one only has a half finished song on there that's about 2 yars old, but it's Thrash-tastic and a bit of a fun old piss-take.

I am filled with dread.

These following few are not my bands, but you might want to give them a go too.

www.myspace.com/animationcommababy
www.myspace.com/denytheaccident

oh go on then

www.myspace.com/foxesmakemusic

this could be amazing.

this too

www.myspace.com/discocatfever

YEAR 9s'll LOVE THAT SHIT

This is an excellent idea

(I'm not in a band)

This is an excellent idea

(I'm not in a band)

Still looking for a bit of ear bleeding hardcore

to wake some of them up :)

My band split up about a fortnight ago

but we sounded like this: http://www.myspace.com/theyouthclub.

We would be best described as 'schmindie'.

Ah go on then

www.myspace.com/theottersband

Pick a song, any song. They might like the song about rabbits.

oh

we are called power up amnd we are kind of electronica i guess
these tracks are quite old so you can rip them apart for all i care
x

Do it.

www.myspace.com/pipecleanerband.

Play 'em Stab Vest. It does feature the word 'cock'. But it's quite slurred.

not my band...

http://www.myspace.com/theavenuesinfo

but very good in a 60s guitar/beach boys/poptastic fashion. shit myspace, mind. certainly different to a lot of stuff that's around at the moment.

this sounds ace

i saw you play a while ago at vertigo.

you were very enjoyable. reminded me of rocky votolato in places, which is always a good thing.

oooooh, go on

www.myspace.com/worriedaboutsatan
-play em 'the last song'
the end should wake a few of em up!
xx

Fantastic!

I am never going to get all these listened to / reviewed in one lesson. You guys have effectively planned my lessons for me for this classup to Easter. Ta.

Anyone got any ideas for introducing the Wasteland to Yr12? Then I could really kick back this afternoon :)

* class up

I made an account just for this

www.myspace.com/theblitzcartel if yr 9's hate us we might as well quit now!

Wot no swearing?

Sounds like a nice idea - are you going to post the reviews on here?

Anyway, we have no swearing or any of that in our songs:

http://www.myspace.com/witchesband

Genre: can you ask your class to tell us?

how about...

instrumental electronica?

www.myspace.com/esbenandthewitch

This is ace...

If you get time then The Fear, or End of the World should give them plenty to chew on here: http://www.myspace.com/timespacerepeat

We are called Time. Space. Repeat. and are apocalyptic shoegazey rock types that sing about like death. And stuff.

As for the Wasteland, just tell them it was written as part of a massive opium bender, and this is the horrors of what drug addiction can do to you.

well..

have a listen to our stuff- indie/alternative noise pop. been compared to placebo, joy divison, mansun,. supergrass and nirvana

www.myspace.com/mysecretlife1

Go on then

Seeing as we're about to do an album, some tweenage feedback might be useful. Cheers then!

We're called Bangbangs and I guess you'd call us Indie/Alt...

www.myspace.com/meetthebangbangs

Thank you - I'd very much like to know what the kids of today

would think of my band:

www.myspace.com/pristheband

BTW, keep up the good work - cool teachers like you kept me going at school!

Ohhh yes please

www.myspace.com/theprk

you probably want to avoid the death waltz with its swears.

Also www.myspace.com/thetupolevghost have had some great/entertaining teenage reviews in the past, so I'm sure they'd love more.

Go on then:

www.myspace.com/kingfurnace

First track's a really poor quality sample, but new single will be up soon and free to download.

Yep

www.myspace.com/winnerswinnerswinners

Year 9 is pretty much our target listenership.

Give them a taste

of the music scene in Hong Kong :)

Yes indeed I have been stalled

by the management's refusal to let me access streaming music sites :(

I will continue to try to find some way round this blanket policy.

Developments were posted here...

http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/2989022

I feel I should point out

As this thread has bobbed back to the surface like a badly weighted-down corpse in a canal, that I have encountered PROBLEMS with this idea.

Shortly after posting this the management of my school have blanket blocked everyone, staff included from accessing myspace etc. This means I am having real problems with the logistics of playing the music to the aforementioned Yr9s for them to review. I will continue to challenge this ruling and let you know when I've had any success.

Updated version of this thread here:

http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/2989022

There is a web site

which allows you to record what is streaming, meaning you can then playback without the use of myspace.

Not sure how the legalities will sit with teaching nippers, but i'm sure 50% are criminals already...

I think i remember twee_loser mentioning it recently, possibly.

this is a great idea

play my band to them!

we're called smokers die younger

www.myspace.com/xwantsthemeat

Go for it, i'm down with the kids...

www.myspace.com/pennyblacks

I'd go with 'Wait' if they're choosing...

enjoy.

yes please sir

www.myspace.com/albertoveto

Go for LA People as you may stumble across the odd expletive in other songs!
