Indie-cred Top Trumps

It's new and it's ludicrously exciting. The only way to safely exert your scene points onto others.

See the bottom of this thread and you should get the idea.

Basically just try and outdo each other on the music activities front with ONLY TWO RULES:
1. No one is allowed to call anyone anything along the lines of indie snob, show off or anything similar. Posts of that nature will be removed.
2. All cards must be official - i.e you *actually* went to the show/have Coldplay's Safety EP or whatever.

Nah. You kids seriously go to a lot of gigs. Like I used to. The Hold Steady are playing Monday night and at 21 there'd be no questions asked. Now. Now, I gotta check with the little woman blah, blah, blah.

For every Cocteau Twins show I went to a dozen more. But we only remember CT now. Who remembers a band called Kissing the Pink? I only do cos it was such an outrageous name. Saw hundreds of Kissing the Pink bands. It's really only in hindsight we can be sure which were the gigs of "indie cred". (Er, maybe not quite; otherwise there'd have been more than 25 people at the JAMC show, eh?)

Anyway, I really haven't got the muster for indie cred today. I'm all washed up compared with you DiSers!

Had Patrick Wolf pogoing and screaming while my ex-band played at an underground fashion show that turned into an onstage riot.

This game is making me feel slightly sick with scenester self-loathing.

The gig I saw Keane at was with The Dawn Parade [on above them] and some awful band with a female singer who wore cowboy boots. Horrid. Keane weren't terribly interesting either..

saw muse at joiners arms in front of about 40 people before uno came out.

however if we're talking metal cred, then i win, hands down. lemmy tried to chat up my mum in the 60s and she spurned his advances. beat that pop pickers.

* and met them backstage as I was doing an interview with Compulsion, who were above them on the bill along with godawful rap-rock nu-metal precursors Blagger ITA, who were pleased because a fan had turned up with a Blaggers tattoo.

Start with your shit cards huh? I saw Coldplay in Leeds on that NME tour before they were famous, supporting regular fries, shack and Les Rhythmes Digitales. Thought they were rubbish. Out of the four, I'd have put money on Les Rhythmes Digitales becoming world superstars. Fortunately for me, 1) I was drunk 2) I'm not a betting man.

I went to college briefly with some of The EMBLD, same course, same year but different class, though sometimes our classes would join up for certain lessons, like performance. I also occasionally had a quick smoke and chewed the fat with them at breaks.

I saw Radiohead opening for Molly Half Head at Dudley JBs in 1992 and bourght the Drill EP a week or two later

Whilst at college I went clubbing with Miki and Emma from Lush and held Miki's pint whilst she "went for a piss"

Did not say "Hey, you're from Coldplay" once; the guys looked miffed by this.

Haha, yeah - I used to live in York, and there was such a dearth of indie kids that when we saw Rick Witter (with a pushchair, at a bus stop) he spent more time looking at us to see if we'd recognised him than we spent looking at him.

I own the much sought after Muse Showbiz singles box set, the one that was only available in France and is now deleted etc. etc. However, what makes mine even rarer is the printing error on the spine of one of the Muscle Museum singles, which reads Sunburn instead. The front cover is correct, it's just the spine which isn't. Agh it's hard to explain, but yeah.

I saw a 6 piece, pre-Sony Hope Of The States supporting a band called Union (who later changed their name to Bloc Party) at the Hope & Anchor in Islington sometime in late 2002.

I Djed before Sophie Ellis Bextor was due to come onstage with theaudience, had interviewed her beforehand and seen that she was wearing these shiny leather boots, and played "Venus In Furs" ("Shiny shiny, shiny boots of leather...") as she came out onstage, and got a big sparkly future-pop-star smile from her :D

I saw the crazy frog advert LAST YEAR on german mtv, way before it came over here. They also had a ringtone sung by a drunken elk dressed up as Santa Claus. Far superior.

I spent in the same bed as Edgar Wrights girlfriend. But it was 1992 and not charlotte Hatherly

went drinking with jake Shillingford of MLS after (funnily enough) a gig of theaudience and he spent to whole saying there'd been a change of management at EMI which was the reason he'd been dropped and not the fact that they hadn't broken the top 40 after about 34 attempts

Once asked Alan Mcgee for a promo copy of My Beauty by Kevin Rowland (last year when they were more sought after) -and got it in the post 3 days later

I drank with Mani and Bobby Gillespie and Bez before a Primal Scream gig in Wolverhampton. Mani was interested in art and we talked about my stuff. He was a very nice fella. In more recent times, I showed the Eighties Matchbox a few late night drinking dives in Wolverhampton. They liked a scuzzy rock dive called the City Bar.

Saw em at the Falcon once, and spoke to Mr Coxon about them... he described them as "a shiny shell. imagine you're in the desert, and you see this shell... it's all shiny, so you pick up the shell and keep it and love the shell."

I've got the Moshi Moshi 7" release of Bloc Party's 'Banquet'... um.... saw Coldplay on the NME tour and on their joint tour with Terris (ha! remember them!) and spoke to the band and got 2 (yes, 2!) setlists (greedy fucker, i know). I saw ATD-I at Reading in the Carling tent in whatever year that was (1999/2000?)? And again at their last show at Electric Ballroom. Oh, and finally, i had a fight with Pete and Carl (and co.) Libertines in Chelmsford after they came to see my old band and hated us... i can't think of anymore, my brain hurts, i need to go lay down.

I called pete dohertey a 'junkie fuck' at recording studios in N.London about a year back. He didn't do anything.

Worked in rehearsal studios (Music City) in New Cross where The Subways and Bloc Party used to rehearse all the time.

I was Bill Stevenson's 'drum tech' for 1 very high profile Only Crime gig at Soma, San Diego. We remain good friends (i like to think)
