Best TV Theme Tune

May I offer.....Inspector Morse!

Not only is it a hauntingly beautiful tune which tenderly flits between minor and major key, but it gets a gimmick/cool motif in - the fact the strings are spelling out "Morse" in Morse Code - without it sounding clunky. It's fantastic.

Any advances?

Also quite partial to a bit of Poddington Peas...

Hawaii Five-0

Purely because it gave us *that* Radio Birdman song

Match of the Day

new tv shows don't have theme music anymore really, just incidental mood music (noticed it most recently with ashes to ashes). A shame!

Actually,

I only just read that firt post properly. Is that morse code thing really true?? If so, that wins by a hundred light years.

it's true

also, in some episodes it changed to spell out the name of the killer in morse code, and in some episodes, one of the other characters, as a red herring.
WIN

This is the best thing I've heard all day!

Possibly all month. Thankyou :-D

The Antiques Roadshow

without a doubt...

THE ADDAMS FAMILY

Clearly. One of the best SONGS of all time, let alone TV theme.

and

TRAP DOOR. Killer.

No!

The greatest tv theme tune of all time is obviously the old Crimewatch theme tune with the brass. So good, almost worth committing crime just to continue hearing it. Been replaced by some crappy techno rubbish recently... Nooooooooooo!!!

It can only be...

"Hey Sandy" from "The Adventures of Pete & Pete".

Case closed.

fun house

cos you can sing, pretty much anything along to it. making is fucking ace.

WORKING LUNCH

srsly now guys.

Defenders of the Earth

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nm_jJBkHtU

Your classic OTT 80's kids TV theme.

Love the Mandrake bit and the echo at the very end.

...

Now what I like about that is how the singer starts describing the skills and attributes of the main characters, and then I guess he's told he's run out of time so he sort of cops out with the "And, some other guys too, they're really uh, cool... uh, FOUR BECOME EIGHT! DEFENDERS OF THE EARTH!!"

And I also like that it's bad. So, so bad.

Here are my suggestions:

University Challenge
Mastermind
Grand Designs (I really think this one)

Cheers,

surely, it’s the theme tune equivalent of a nice plutonic hug.

MINDER

no, actually

RENEGADE.

Fucking awesome.

the sweeney

beats it though!

Why

has no one said the A-Team yet? Gotta be!

anyone else remember...

Pugwall?

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pf9BjAuV7M&feature=related

"with drums a thumping, bass player pumping, keyboards and me on my guitar"

Quantum Leap

With spoken word intro... perfection.

Have I Got News For You?

I've always enjoyed that one. Also, Sweet Valley High was pretty rockin' I think. Red Dwarf too.

As mentioned already Twin Peaks is amazing, as is Airwolf. Macgyver was pretty epic as well.

Pot Black

Gnarly guitar noodling lovely or.....
The theme from the cricket

Mambo No. 5

?

Twin Peaks

would definately be up there for me.

Curb Your Enthusiasm!

and Twin Peaks is a CLASSIC as well :)

Robinson Crusoe

The French version that used to be on Saturday morning kids' telly. I found it on a compilation. Beautiful syncopated melody. I'm always a sucker for 6/8, me.

Bertha

Bertha, lovely Bertha, you are a lovely machine

Any anyone who works with you will know just what I mean.

Bertha, lovely Bertha, sometimes I thing you're a dream,

When we work out what you have to do,

You can always turn the goods out, always turn the goods out,

We can depend upon you.

Clicking in the day and flashing in the night,

Your computer is shining brightly,

Some people say you've a mind of your own,

And I think that's very likely, likely.

Bertha, lovely Bertha, sometimes I thing you're a dream,

When we work out what you have to do,

You can always turn the goods out, always turn the goods out,

We can depend upon you.
