Anyone else here from South Wales? I was interested in who you all thought were the best local unsigned bands?

My friend

plays guitar in an awesome band called Lights to Lead Us. They play quite a lot in Cardiff - you can find them on Myspace (though they didn't have much stuff up last time I checked). Best go see them live. They're a kind of an epic post-rock with vocals thang. And like I said, they're awesome.

we're definitely not the best, but...

my band are welsh and unsigned- www.myspace.com/zissoumusic

the mams are cool-

not a band really, from my hometown-

stray borders-

there's a load of good ones, i just can't think of them right now.

Some are...

Truckers of Husk (they're signed now, but they're still ace)
Zail
Gindrinker
Sweet Baboo
Spencer McGarry
Cate Le Bon
Stray Borders
Heck
Cymbient
Circa Regna Tonat
King Alexander

I'd like to think the bands I'm in are quite good too, but I shall not name them for now. I'll let Monpot or Joe Totale do it for me. :)

yeh

I like spencer mcGarry and circa regna tonat, not that big a fan of gindrinker. Havnt heard of the others.

My personal favourites are;

StopMotion Men (imo one of the best bands around, period!)
The Donde Stars
Mea
People in planes (signed, but seemingly unheard of by a lot of people around here!)

People in Planes

I saw them just before Christmas, I thought they were truly awful. I think they're mainly based in the USA these days, they've got a bit more success over there...
I used to really like them when they were called Tetra Splendour too, so it came as a big surprise!

ah...

I missed that show, suppose im glad I did now! Ive seen them a few times and in all honesty they are a bit hit-and-miss. On record they are a great band, but I find that they could try a bit harder live. I saw them at the barfy in cardiff last year supporting (the awful) amusement parks on fire where they were really good though.

Seeing as Monpot and Joe Totale aren't here

and I've realised I actually AM in the business of promoting my own South Wales unsigned music enterprises...

Broken Leaf / Ratatosk (both different solo efforts)

I play in more bands too, but they can take care of themselves. Jag jag jag jag jag jag jag jag........

more..

agreed on Truckers of Husk and Gindrinker.

Plus I think Kutosis are pretty special, they seem to play with Gindrinker quite a bit. They have an awesome poster for a gig in welsh club in march.

I'm with everyone else on

The Spencer McGarry Season. Surprised no one else has mentioned Attack + Defend though.

attack + defend

are alrite, nothing special though.

a lot of

twisted by design's compilation from 2006 is pretty darned good, but i'm sure lots more has come up since then! quench (is that right? i forget the name) put out a good cd with gair rhydd, i'm assuming something to do with myfirstmine...

and i really do like attack+defend

Gindrinker
