and it was great, really nice atmosphere, well laid out, can bring your own booze into the arena and it's really close to the train station / city centre so you can stock up on supplies.
The line-up's never been as good as it was that year though.
I went last year, my first non-commercial size festival and it was just lovely, everything is reasonably priced and generally a great laid back attitude.
I hope Hold Steady do it this year, after pulling out last year.
I thought that was some sort of new announcement for a moment.
The launch party was excellent, by the way, despite Tired Irie pulling out. Plus those of us who arrived half an hour after doors got to watch JoFo soundcheck.
The only time I saw you after that you were talking to someone anyway. I've written it up for the same blog I did the warm-up review for if you're interested.
they are still evolving as a band. id recommend holding judgement til they start playing again on the back of their new demo (being recorded now), but its all gravy innit.
Dirty Projectors
James Yorkston & The Athletes
The Lionheart Brothers
Frightened Rabbit
Those Dancing Days
Royworld
The Count & Sinden
Benga
Zombie Zombie
REVEREND AND THE MAKERS, HENRY ROLLINS, JOSÉ GONZÁLEZ, JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN, HOWLING BELLS, CAMERA OBSCURA, DODGY, OPERATOR PLEASE, EMMA POLLOCK, FUCK BUTTONS, ALELA DIANE, ROD THOMAS, NOAH AND THE WHALE, THE MAE SHI, YOUTHMOVIES
Why are people suggesting Dodgy? The name says it all...maybe its because i'm old enough to remember how duff they were the first time around. Emma Pollock is a good call. Would like to see Au revoir Simone, You Say Party We Say Die!, The Pipettes (after they didn't do last year), Fabienne Delsol and Teenage Fanclub there this year.
I have been twice and its brilliant.
Staff are very friendly , if it rains you go into the hall, if not you have the great setting outside. And they have a real ale beer and cider tent which was about £2.50 a pint!
Will be doing a day again this year and taking my son for his first festival at 8 months old.
Also, Of Montreal
who has been to this?
There has been a couple of years when I have been tempted to go. This years line up doesn't look too shabby either.
I've been and it's awesome
On the back of that, I'm going again!
I'm led to believe
Johnny Foreigner are likely to play too - DiS is curating one day of a stage or something like that.
I went in 2005

It's really family orientated
Hence my friend and I scaring the living crap out of a load of families dancing like crazies to forward russia whilst drinking pints of white russian
:D
Yeah I remember watching Devendra Banhart and the front row was taken up by small children.
It's really good.
I went last year, my first non-commercial size festival and it was just lovely, everything is reasonably priced and generally a great laid back attitude.

eww
not the best start for me. still, the headliners last year were tosh for the most part and it was still a great festival.
I went in 2006
it was brilliant and i think I'll be going this year again, pretty good line up to start with!

thanks simon
im glad you enjoyed it. apologies for not getting time to chat. i'll make time for a beer with you for certain.
No problem
The only time I saw you after that you were talking to someone anyway. I've written it up for the same blog I did the warm-up review for if you're interested.
aha
nice one, ill make a point of having a look, and get you a beer the next time i see you.
erm no comment.
im genuinely intrigued by minaars though.
i'll sadly admit to not being that much of a mint.ive fan. they're just a bit too sterotypical for me.
hmm
they are still evolving as a band. id recommend holding judgement til they start playing again on the back of their new demo (being recorded now), but its all gravy innit.
Should have went to this
but my mates wanted to get hammered in the Polar bear instead!!!!
I went in 2006
it was great, lovely atmosphere, good bands, nice people, MEGA cheap, and there are showers. SHOWERS!
and
you bring as much of your own alcohol in as you want (as long as theres no glass containers)
One of the best things about this festival!
Sitting in De Monfort hall with your own carry out from the off license round the corner is ace!

henry rollins = spoken word.
which is possibly now my new highlight of the festival.
happy with it simon?
Only if someone can get Rollins to fight John McClure in the car park
Quite happy, yeah. If nothing else I'm hoping to see Camera Obscura somewhere bigger than the Rising stage after the crush two years ago.
I've been meaning to contact you about the possibility of doing something as part of/adjacent to the Fringe if there's room and scope.
Dodgy!?
