Do you ever look back through your gig tickets (if you keep them) and ponder to yourself "what the fuck have i done?!?"?
Your lists below, with excuses if you feel the need to explain
Kid Rock (no excuse)
The Rasmus (i lie about an ex taking me, but there's no excuse)
Sugababes (ditto)
Kylie (the worst birthday present i've been bought)
Lostprophets (nuerous times - every one no excuse, apart from when they supported earthtone9)
Busted (given a free ticket...i was a student and thought free things was what it's all about!!)
I just started a thread about liking Alphabeat
I have nothing to say here
two that spring to mind...
Bloodhound Gang (I can't remember any of it through far too much rum, if that makes it any better);
Embrace (twice. Once in Manchester - first gig, got offered £50 for my ticket, was stuck behind a long haired fat sweaty man all the way through. Great. Second time - in Norway. I was there already. Still not really an excuse).
i was thinking about when i saw the bloodhound gang
but i'm not ashamed, it was great :D
The Corrs (aged 11)
Loads of Ska-Punk (reel big fish, less than jake, capdown, spunge etc). Although I don't regret most of it Ska-punk gigs = FUN.
That's about it.
you should never regret capdown
as they are amazing
* were
:(
sad
indeed. And agreed - fucking amazing band!
Most ashamed of seeing 'Five' when I was 11
"Although I don't regret most of it Ska-punk gigs = FUN"
I like you. :D
Have I ever mentioned my feelings about ska-punk?
no, but I can sense they are bad ones. :'(
I'll spare you, but only because you've helped me alot
And because I don't know what a skank-off entails... vvv
skank
continually until one person dies from exhaustion (I would imagine as I've clearly just made it up)
No
please do, are they bad? Can we have a "skank-off" :D
ah
I grew up with ye wiles. I STILL listen to their album and eps. Mmm shuffle..
I went to Big Gay Out
But only because I won tickets through Faceparty.
I'm not going to redeem myself on this one am I?
^ i think i already slagged you for this
but then i've given you some ammo ^^
let's truce
hmmm.
house of love - when i should have goen and seen rapeman/dino jr/band of susans instead.
other than that... no really.
i saw gary moore in 85. which i suppose is pretty bad, but back then i liked 'rawk' music.
fgth - in 84 - could be embarrassing. but again i really liked FGTH.
WORSE gig, as in band ought to be embarrassed. was Chapterhouse. totally blown off the stage by their support act - The teenage Cranberries first UK mainland show. they were pretty darn good.
racked my brain
all i could come up with was a robbie williams gig but that was work so it doesn't really count plus basement jaxx were supporting which un-gays the situation "slightly"
i watched robbie williams
in the rain at Glasto 98.
BUT i was with my girlfriend and it was a festival so that also un-gays it
ah, but who was on at the same time
elsewhere on site?
at a guess
http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/glastonbury/1998/stagebyday.shtml#newbands
it was kenickie or idlewild.
I'll take the gayness for missing idlewild before they went alt-country then!
That sounds wrong
I saw Robbie at Glasto '98 and saw Idlewild in the new bands tent.
Surely Basement Jaxx kind of OVER-gays the situation?
They're awful.
Hard Fi
was in 2005 when i was 15 which makes it slightly better
Not much though
i know :(
Hard-Fi
in 2006 when I was 31, now that really isn't excusable is it..
manowar
i was 13
^
this should be applauded
it was 1986
so 'classic' line-up too
Manowar? Oh no
I've got that 'horses made of steel...' song in my head for the rest of the day now
Fratellis
October 2006.
I was....15.
Yeah, no excuses.
manowar
to the fratellis in 1 easy post. it couldn't happen anywhere else
excellent!
Games Workshop fan?
Nothing wrong with Manowar \m/
good gig, crap time
me and my mate took 2 girls to see Hellisforheroes supporting biffy way back ages ago.
got well pissed beforehand and then were thrown out of leeds cockpit before HIFH even played. not the best way to impress two foxy ladies
apparently the gig was ace tho. shame we were outside nursing the wounds we got from the bouncers throwing us down some steps. and also out bruised egos
i saw that
tour in manchester roadhouse, it was biffys proper first headline tour (well i think they were alternating who headlined each night) still good though, i didnt get thrown out mind.
ive seen plenty cringeworthy bands tho in my time, wacko jacko, bon jovi, aerosmith to say but a few gigs i never mention to anyone haha
Hmmm
I was dragged to see HIM twice (I'm a good friend, but I refused a 3rd time)
I agreed to see The Hoosiers before I knew who they were.
Hanson (again, I'm a GREAT friend)
PJ & Duncan - The Mizz Roadshow approx '93 . . . it's all part of our histories.
^ PJ & Duncan
man, that's gotta win!
we weren't allowed to stand up
we had to kneel! How mean is that? I wanted to get up and dance to 'Let's Get Ready to Rumble' sooooo bad.
HIM?????
Dear god. You have my deepest sympathies.
it was painful
Been dragged to HIM too
Even apart from their unbearably shitty gothboyband music, they're by far the worst live band I've ever seen. And I've seen Blink 182 (they were in the same bill as Deftones) and The Rasmus (believe it or not, but once they put them in the same bill as Morrissey!?!?!)
I'd love to see Hanson
Sum 41 about 7 years ago.
We went for Reel Big Fish, who were supporting, ok???? And shut up because they were really good. Sum 41 on the otherhand, were dire.
i wanted to go and see sum 41 the other day
it would be fun
I believe it would be the complete opposite of fun.
Oasis
I was 13. It was 1995. It was acceptable.
im gonna stick up for the Fratelli's here
I saw them at reading festival in 2006 in a packed Carling tent and they were pretty good.
Id hadnt really heard much of them at the time. Before that (now VERY annoying) chelsea dagger song came out.
Think now they would be shit.
I saw Oasis at Maine Road in 1996
It was a good gig.
coldplay
it was the final nail in the coffin for a band that I used to like.
I also regret seeing counting crows twice. Once was fine... but twice was pushing it.
I've seen Counting Crows twice
I enjoyed them both times. Ok, I wouldn't go again.
Foo Fighters about 3 years ago
ummm, System of a down 3 yrs ago also.
My excuse: I was 14!
Nickelback
TWICE
.....
when I was 13+14
.....
with my mum and dad
......
we were seated
I win
x
nowt wrong with seeing System,
they made some good albums!
album: singular
S/T and Toxicity
Both good
I saw System...
With Dillinger Escape Plan supporting. How can that be a bad thing?
Her that does
the Dawson's Creek theme music. Kill me now.
yeah
but she used to be in frou frou and they were pretty good, right?
do you mean Imogen Heap?
because she didn't do the Dawson's Creek theme
And
Imogen Heap is actuallu quite good.
A.R.E. Weapons
at the Underworld a couple of years ago. Still flagellating myself for that one.
I endured Mika at the Shepherd's Bush Empire last year, but that was for the benefit of my girlfriend so that one doesnt count. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
papa roach
and
Hed(pe) in Birmingham.
I missed the trin home as well and had to stay with my friends crazy girlfriends aunt, not fun.
I was only 16 at the time though, that's gotta count for something.
Hed (pe)! :D
HEY BARTENDER!
hit me with a double
.
i was gonna say Hed(PE) too
no excuse for me, they were playing my student union (Swansea) OPM supported (worst band i have ever seen),
I drank a load of JD and had a good time though
Rod Stewart
supported by Status Quo, Wembly Stadium, 1991. Age 16, invited by my Dad. Couldn't refuse. The 'Quo were pretty good actually.
The Quo
are fucking awesome!
Five For Fighting
I was young and I thought he was cool. I thought I was cool.
The only redeeming factor is that it was in Chicago. Which actually is cool.
lol, i used to think he was cool in my younger days also
sadly now he just sounds like a James Blunt type to me
i've seen...
King, U2, Hothouse Flowers, The Waterboys and many more bands that I probably wouldn't want to see again but I'm not really embarrassed by any of them.
Oh, except for maybe Stereophonics and Embrace, that's pretty embarrassing...
Primal Scream
at The Shepherds Bush Empire, someone persuaded me to go. I mainly hated them but it was when the crowd went mental to Rocks that I knew I was in the wrong place. Went to the Bush Ranger pub around the corner and sulked until my friends came out.
jethro tull
the strawbs twice
the automatic
mcr i got dragged (there good live) i tihnk i win
Did the Waterboys play 'Too Close to Heaven'?
OK they're not that great as a band, but that song is amazing.
Worst I can think of is
Limp Bizkit's Finsbury Park thing a few years back. In my defence, the earlier acts were generally pretty good, and the cost was nothing. We left before the end.
Dead or Alive
Back in about 1986. They mimed.
And Dennis Waterman in 1983 with my Mom (The 'Little Britain' 'can i sing the theme tune' guy). He was pretty rubbish.
Papa roach
though i only went as head (PE) were supporting, and they were great!!
The Glitterati,
is mostly all.
^ (hed)pe headline shows were for that
:)
my word i'm not with it today
head(PE)?!?!??"!"?£$!£$?!
<3
:)
shamefully, my first ever gig was Coldplay
Chris Martin burst into a rendition of 'We Are The Cheeky Girls' at one point. It's a minor miracle I persevered with music to be honest
You would all be embarrassed by admitting you went to an RHCP gig
but i'm not. I fucking loved them at the time and it was probably the best day of my life up until that point. I adored them more than anything else. The adoration is gone now, but I can still appreciate it.
It was at murrayfield stadium and I was sat at the opposite end from where they were playing. I was ecstatic when we managed to sneak into standing, and although I was still about a mile away from Frusciante, i couldn't have been happier.
^this
Agreed completely (although it was London Docklands Arena for me)
A1
at a school anti-drugs roadsow type thing. this probably doesnt count as a gig so
feeder- but it wernt that bad so watever really.
The Crash Test Dummies @ Rock City
They played "mmmm mmmm mmmm mmmm" and all the others!
What do I win?
i like that song
Jimmy Eat World
In... about... 2004? I didn't enjoy it though.
I've excuses for mine:
Tori Amos - because it was a present for my girlfriend of four years (with whom I split up the day before)
Lostprophets - I had to drive a friend to see them for his birthday.
Reef - this was my first ever gig and... oh there's no use, I've no excuse, I really liked them. I was only 11.
Oh god there's more... Cast, Feeder LOADS of times, I even went to see Eminem instead of Hefner at Reading once. I think I saw NoWaySis once too.
tori amos
is cool as fuck
Cypress Hill...
Shit enough?
