Downstairs at Foundry?

Whitechapel Gallery Bar?

whitechapel gallery is a tad pricey for drinks

foundry - hmm.. do they have a projector? and there isn't seating

downstairs at kick may be alright..

Downstairs at Kick would be ideal

I would have thort

It's like that movie Fortress

the area has been turned into an open prison for hipsters, if Vikram strays more than 50 metres from a visual artist a collar atached to his neck will explode!

sometimes i go to dalston!

and i've even been known to wander as far afield as soho, south bank, camden and ladbroke grove!

Seriously though

Isn't really silly to settle for a venue which may not be suitable, just because of its location?

The making or breaking gigs can often be the surroundings, sound etc, which are all dependent on the venue....

the location is more important

if it's not in shoreditch, the people we want to attend won't attend. simple as that. and shoreditch has so many venues - i don't even know how many, it must be getting on for a hundred - there has to be something suitable.

why?

a badly located venue - even is it is ideal in other ways - will find it difficult to attract people, especially if those people are notoriously parochial

well, that's true

but every single place that isn't Shoreditch isn't badly located.

it is for our purposes!

the people who come tend to live and / or work around here. and it's where they usually go out. they aren't gonna come to camden or even soho. i know i rarely go to gigs and tings if they aren't within walking distance - and i'm not alone in that. it's hassle, especially when there's so much on offer nearby.

That depresses me massively

"Hello, I'm going to live in one of the biggest, most vibrant cities in the entire world for culture, leisure and opportunity. But I'm going to treat it like a local village and never leave one tiny pocket."

It's also got one of the best public transport systems around so it's not like getting to that private cinema in Soho (which would be ideal for you, by the way) is much of a problem.

yeah sure and it;'s not like i don't swan around london anyway

i go out A LOT (or used to anyway) so mostly i keep it local because getting home is a hassle and it's nie being ablr to just pop out to a gig or whatever for a bit. less of a mission. and one of the main reasons people live in shoreditch and certain other neighbourhoods is precisely because it is villagey...

this sounds interesting

i'd like to check out one of these film nights. i won't come if it's not in shoreditch.

there was one last night!

the video artist dropped out two weeks before. ended up showing some hatcham social stuff - they were meant to perform too but there was a fuck up with the PA. hence wanting a venue that isn't 93 feet east. it's my friend's night, but i helped sort the replacement video/act and think i might get more involved in future ones!

The Fleapit

on Columbia Road?

Might not hold 100 though.

that place is way too 'organic'

for it's own good.

grand lodge

just off curtain road should fit the criteria.

*heard of it

thanks for the suggestions everyone. keep 'em coming!

Favela chic?

oooh good choice

but isn't the screen up by the dj perch? i can't remember...

expand on it

what kind of film?

Oh, and the joke Noel Fielding made in Boosh Series3 about not leaving shoreditch. Priceless

what was the joke?

short films. arty stuff. last month was this dude: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/filmnetwork/A25652937

too small and not laid out in the right way

and i dont think they have a projector and decent sized screen

but thanks

i saw a film there once

the screen was up on the back wall. might not have been their equipment though.

waytoo small

wrong atmosphere

Carbon Monoxide?

helium

it's fun for a while, but you end up with a headache
