Electro-shock Blues

for me is the best.

Seconded

Electro-shock blues is their best. Beautiful freak is also great. Souljacker would be a nice 3rd.

^ Yup,

they're the three I own and they're all good. Their recent Greatest Hits is a nice collection too.

I've been pondering this too

so I bought 'Blinking Lights and Other Revelations' because it was a double album (get my moneys worth), but I don't think it was the best place to start.

Electro-Shock Blues is the best one

I'd say you should start with that one. Blinking Lights..., Beautiful Freak and Daisies of the Galaxy can then follow.

Beautiful Freak

way accessible and diverse. Plus all songs could easily have been singles.

Beautiful Freak

The songs are better than Electro-Shock Blues!

Slightly unrelated

but did anyone else see the programme on BBC 2 last night with E going round and finding out about his dad's quantum physics theory? Think it was called something like Parallel Universes, Parallel Worlds or something like that?

Was really, really good. Quite funny in places as well. Made me love E just that little bit more.

saw it on bbc4

a few weeks ago. really interesting.

i missed it AGAIN

fuck :(

iPlayer

will be your friend

Buy these 4 albums

In this order

Beautiful Freak -> Electro Shock Blues -> Daisies of the Galaxy -> Blinking Lights and Other Revelations

Chronological is the best way. You need to understand E's sadness from the beginning before delving into the horrors of ESB... and then after this you truly appreciate the optimism of Daisies and then the sheer epic brilliance of Blinking Lights which is essentially the previous 3 albums rolled into one glorious whole.

Next you should buy a live album. The Electro Shock Blues tour show is my favourite but Live from the Town Hall and Oh What a Beautiful Morning will do the job nicely too.

If you have a few quid left over you can pick up Shootenanny if you like. There's some nice songs on it. Only get Souljacker if you're a completist...

Surely

Shootenanny! and Souljacker should be the other way round?

I'd say Souljacker is better than Daisies as well, personally.

Daisies

is so massively underrated it makes me want to weep! Not a fan of Souljacker at all personally. Just doesn't do it for me. Shame because I think as a concept E could've nailed it like... Oh well can't win 'em all.

Shootenanny! is pretty shit in general though I have to say. Although it does have a few redeeming moments...

My friends all went to see them the other day,

and said it was one of the most best things ever.

they are

really good live :)

his dads like einstein or something

created some mad physics thing that is impossible to understand

i very recently

started my Eels initiation and what I bought was the recently released Meet the Eels compilation. I personally think it's the best place to start as you get songs from all of his records so you get a really well-rounded insight from that.

Doesn't have Ugly Love though, which is one of my favourite eels songs..

I started with Souljacker

but I think it might mislead you slightly if you start with that one.
Maybe Daisies?

Yeah

I was gonna say this... though to be fair you could just pick one album at random and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

Chronologically is the way to go...

although you can't go wrong with any of the first three albums (Electroshock Blues is my favourite, although it's the hardest to get into.)
