Has anyone ever been? Any good? The line up is starting to look pretty nice... how does it work though, with 25 venues, do you just turn up at the gigs you want to see and hope to get in??

I'd imagine its alot like dot to dot festival -

you get a wristband from one venue and just go to the venues you want to.
We're going to go this year too, looking for hostels now. Or if anyone can recommend a decent, cheap bed and breakfast with parking nearby - please do!

pretty much..

it's good fun and value for money but can be kinda frustrating. The organisers have a tendancy to put big acts on in venues which will blatantly get full up v quickly, which means that you have to turn up a couple of acts earlier to have a hope of getting in.

The atmosphere is awesome

people running around the streets of brighton trying to get to gigs is awesome, the is a real party atmosphere and you get secret gig listings and the lark to see bands play in unlikely places

Like Yourcodenameis:Milo at Princ Albert <3

Was that last year?

Feckin' hell. I saw them at Audio I think at last year's festival.

Another kind of frustrating thing is that all the acts are on in the evening and none in the afternoon, could work a little better if it was more spaced out through the day.

But yeh it's amazing and the atmosphere's great.

Yes!

You got given a piece of rock when u went to get ur tickets annnnd it said YCIM - 1pm :D

Artrocker

Did a saturday afternoon session at Kabuki last year, hopefully again this year

they are doing matinee shows on all three days this year.

Which is going to be a lot of fun.

hmm

there's loads going on in the afternoon though, or there was last year. lots of street gigs and 'fringe' events, bands playing on hotel balconies etc etc...

Full Lineup here:

http://www.escapegreat.com/festival/artists/

More and more acts get added nearer the time but already looking like a festival to match last year's, although perhaps with slightly less mainstream acts (no Kate Nash or The Enemy this time round).

All sounds good

Now to work on persuading friends!

they

were hardly mainstream back in may though

They were both getting quite a bit of coverage

Weren't they? I can't really remember.

i'm particularly looking forward to seeing

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

i went in 2006(?)

the first year it was on, anyway. As someone mentioned above, it was really disappointing that the acts weren't spread throughout the day, inside they were simply concentrated in 7-11pm. Although i guess that leaves plenty of time for crazy golf. I hope they have rectified the problem for this year's one though...

2006

was fantastic. i went to beach club every night and the place next door (can't remember the name) saw Metric, Sunshine Underground, Cribs etc

The Fortune Of War!

love that place, its styled as a boat ya know =D

I thought they really improved

the afternoon slot last year. Managed 12 hours on continuous music before my little legs gave way on the Friday, great stuff.

This sounds interesting

I went in 2006 and wasn't that impressed with the organisation though I like the line up. However if there is more afternoon/late night stuff it could be excellent.

Any cheap places to stay

Haven't been to Brighton for years.

Yay

Just booked for this, going down with 3 mates. Prob gonna stay in the palace hostel or whatever its called, reckon the atmosphere would be good and its cheap!

Anyone thats been before; Are the venues far apart? Is it easy to get in between them?

Concorde 2 is a bit further away from the others

It's down a little path next to the seaside called Madeira Drive which is a little seperated from the others (not much though).

I reckon the furthest difference between any 2 venues might be 15 minutes walk roughly.

Great news

a friend seemed to think some were spread miles apart.... broken records just confirmed for this too, get in.

last year

was excellent, i cant remember having to queue for anything. thats probably because i avoided concorde2 though. you will spend pretty much a whole day queueing to see anything there.

its all about artrocker at kabuki!

well

if i told you what the DiS bill was for each of the nights you might do a little wee with excitement!

it's always a good time and certainly a good chance to check out a lot of new bands you've heard of and to see big bands in intimate venues. is much more fun than camden crawl and sxsw too.

Erm

I'm trying to sort out a hotel for this and no nothing of Brighton. I also can't seem to find on the website a list of the main venues.

Can anyone tell me which ones have been used in the past? Just so I don't end up miles away!

Audio

Komedia
Arc
Beach
The Corn Exchange
Concorde 2
Pressure Point

The are others but they are like pubby in size

Prince Albert for example

i think we're playing The Ocean Rooms

which is the same size as Audio / Pressure Point. Do they really use The Corn Exchange? And The Dome?!? Wouldn't everyone who was at the festival fit into that?

Art Brut played Corn Exchange

during the festival last year

well if there is one bonus

it should get rid of all the rubbish people who would otherwise be blocking my view at Times New Viking.

But surely there hasn't been anyone announced this year that is big enough to play the corn exchange?!

The Automatic?

The Young Knives?
The Subways?

I'd say they were all in Art Brut leauge actually i'd say they are all much bigger in the UK then Art Brut

aren't the automatic and the subways yesterdays news though?

bands that would have been playing these venues two years ago, but now nobody really cares about? And surely The Young Knives aren't THAT big?

The Wombats?

the main venues will be

komedia, the dome, corn exchange and audio i guess. (a load of venues along the front to the right of the pier) There's concorde 2 too but that's miles away from anywhere. If you get somewhere in or around the north lanes/ near the pier you'll be good. Brighton's a pretty small place so if you go for something a bit further out you wont be that hamstrung...

anyone else seen the special anniversary fatcat events? the nina nastasia/twilight sad/ frightened rabbit lineup looks particularly good...

there should have been an and

before the "a load of venues bit" stupid lack of editing :P

Thanks

I'll get looking!

won't be missing

The Fat cat event

They are selling

tickets seperately for that though aren't they?

seperately +

150 free tickets for wristband holders

When...

Will we find out??

Looks like Times New Viking have been added to the bill

Looks like I'm finally glad I got my ticket.

WOOOOOO

this means I don't have to spend megabucks to get the train to go see them in London and can see them for FREE.

Yessss!

Apparently they bullietined

Sunset Rubdown on the bill, that made me get my ticket :D

I'm loving the line up

Any idea

Of stage times?? Does this start in the day or is an evening event?

Yeah

I'd quite like to know too for trains on Thurs. I'm finding the website not very helpful at all!

Stage times generally aren't announced

Until about a couple of weeks prior to the event, maybe even less.

jesus

too many bands and i already know im gonna miss 2/3 of the bands i wanna see!

looks great

but why does it have to clash with ATP yet again?

I'd love to go to this but ATP will always win out.

it clashes with atp

cos half the bands they get are playing at atp and the US/canadian bands can get good fees from two festivals instead of one. festivals like this pay much better than a few one off gigs- especially for the smaller bands...come on adie...you know this!

sorry to bring in the realism

infact

most of the good bands are only able to play because they come for atp......the first year it was more or less a middle of the road shite fest

yeah

i know ro, but even so... seriously as a punter this fucking sucks!

how about they do the fests a week apart and have a few one off tour dates in between instead...

*ady*

and why can't some of these bands

be over in july for latitude/camp bestival/lovebox oh, and TRUCK of course!

then i could take advantage of the problem!

hahah

i know i know...sorry - im letting the bbc's relentless ass covering over the george lamb thing get at me....

George

who?

adie

is the better spelling.

no pain in pop stage on the friday

AIDS wolf
telepathe
rolo tomassi
gentle friendly

ohhhh wouldya just look at that..

no pain bla bla stage

should have Sunni-Geini and Banjo too!

THE FUTUREHEADS

And Emmy The Great now also confirmed (according to the e-mail I got today snet on the mailing list).

My flatmate keeps going on about Thomas Tantrum so think I will get dragged along to them.

The line up

is looking really fucking good

Pretty fuckin swanky if u ask me

and this is before we get the list of secret shows! I CANT WAIT!

If you queue for ur band early enough

u get a piece of rock with a list of shows or the website or just word of mouth

I think I have to go now.

All depends if I'm supposed to be 200 miles north.

Fratellis now confirmed

One to miss.

The queues were pretty mental last year

But i made the mistake of running around Brighton trying to catch as many bands as i could. Just pic one or two venues each night.

And avoid concorde2

too much out of the way

More bands more bands!

Twilight Sad
Candence Weapon
Wiley
Frightend Rabbit

Me very happy :D

sportsday megaphone

is playing too
