Tapes 'n Tapes tonight

We're putting Tapes 'n Tapes on at the Old Blue Last on Great Eastern Street, London tonight. It's a special one-off gig, their first UK gig since 'The Loon'. They will be back in a few months to tour their new album ('Walk It Off'), so this is a rare chance to see them in such a small place.

Support from Stricken City and The Fucks. Doors are at 7.30, £6 entrance, first come first served.

i would love to go

but the inevitably massive que puts me off even attempting to wander down

^ this

I'm far too old for that queuing up nonsense.

.

Get there early enough and you should be fine!

It's the 'should be' that means I won't be going

Sorry. Have fun though.

We're going to pop down later

It's not too far but we can't be fucked queueing or getting there so early we are more concerned with how hungry we are by the time Tapes'n'Tapes come on.

Well it's not like they're Radiohead or something

I like The Loon but it's not really worth all the effort to get there early. If we get in I know full well I'll be irritated by be being in the OBL so I don't want to add hunger to that.

Hmm. I think I must have malfunctioned.

Error code is TGB2424 apparently. Does that help?

saw

them recently in Paris. Didn't manage to catch them on their 'Loon' tour, but on this tour they play LOADS of new stuff. And it's all rather excellent.

so..

want to go.

Tempting but

even if you do queue up and manage to get in, you'll then probably have to wait at least a couple of hours until the band go on stage.

I'll make the effort as I work

down the road. Is there really likely to be that much of a que?

Stage times are thus:

The Fucks - 8.15
Stricken City - 9
Tapes n Tapes - 9.45

^Liar

That didn't happen did it? The doors weren't at 7.30 were they? It wasn't first come first served was it? Recommend you find yourself something else to do in your spare time other than promoting gigs, be honest you're not very good at it are you.

Information please.

^ yep

fill us in...we need the dirt

About 30 of us lined up

in good order inside the pub having been told we could access the venue 'internally'. However at around 7.45 everybody was asked to leave and que up outside which we did. You can guess the rest, lost my place in the original que, waited until 9.00 whilst others que jumped (not the promoters fault to be fair)and was told that nobody else would get in despite the que not having moved for over an hour! This is turned out was because they were 'sorting out' the guest list! I don't mind waiting for a while but the above information regarding door and stage times is just a pile of dogs toss. Don't like being lied to basically. Others (not I) started throwing glasses around they were so pissed off which obviosuly I don't condone but gives you a good example of how frustrated the 'kids' were.

That sounds brilliant.

Oh, if only I'd gone... Secret gig in 'massive guestlist' shocker. Unlucky dude.

Yeah you're right

should no better at my age etc.

Exactly!

That's why we'd all abandoned it. We tried to warn you, but would you listen...would you 'eck!

I just hope they do a proper tour soon.

They're playing London

on the 28th May, the same bloody day I fly to Barcelona for Primavera. So enjoy mate! I went last night to fly the flag for rock n roll sir, I dunno you youngsters these days, no fight in you!

Queuing is the new rock'n'roll!

Has that date been officially announced? Have I missed a news story? I'm only too lazy too queue, I appear to be blind and out of the news loop as well. Hmm.

Yep I can confirm it's at the

Garage, buy(e tickets)early to not avoid queuing to get in anyway.

^

ps... yippie bought a tix and the garage too... should be a good one!

Damn it

The tickets sites are not letting me buy. BUMFLAPS.

You're losing it kidda

should have been on the ball like me, what on earth will you be like in 10 years? Joking aside are you suggesting it's sold out already?!

I just think they're not working for me.

I am woefully inept at the internet.

Ahh. The Les Savy Fav method.

Leave the paying punters out in the cold, While the "great and good" go in through the side door. Lovely

I assume it's just the OBL method

At least the LSF show wasn't never advertised, was it? I'd always understood it was to be industry only. This one went out as a proper show, I thought.

^My point exactly

although my explanation is probably rubbish. They could have told us at 8 we wouldn't get in, no harm done (well not much). But don't wait an hour whilst we freeze, just be honest about it. "We're letting in all the media whores first, if you're lucky we may have around 20 places remaining" etc.

No, but it was an open secret. I eventually got in for LSF.

Many didn't.
No such problems for Sunburned Hand Of The Man. Queued inside, and no quest list (as far as I'm aware).
Maybe I'm just being naive in thinking being treated like shit is not OK.

You didn't read my post, though.

It was only an open secret because the industry people on the list were talking about it.

It was clearly marked as an industry only show so if you turned up to see LSF you were clearly going to be bloody lucky to see them. How is that being 'treated like shit'?

This wasn't.

I seem to remember,, I saw

the LSF gig was announced on the OBL myspace page. I wasn't under any impression that it was industry only (I honestly would have gone elsewhere otherwise). The queue was inside and we were moved outside. We hung about for hours with no idea of what was going on, while the guest list was sorted out. As I said, I thought we were treated like shit at the time, as did others on the night. I also agree they were treated badly last night. The night of Sunburned we weren't. Some nights they get it right, some nights they don't.
Communication would benefit all.

.

We didn't want to announce Tapes n Tapes at all, but a website ran a story about another band playing so we had to let people who was playing to avoid any confusion. We were hoping to announce TnT at the last minute to their mailing list only, unfortunately some people got carried away and blew it.

It was the Old Blue's idea to split the queue in to guestlist and paying, not ours. At the end of the day it's the bouncer that lets us know how many can get in and how many were in there, he counts them not us. I would've happily let everyone in at the same time, but we wasn't allowed to. It's not the OBL's fault, it's just the way do things, which is easiest for them.

Dunno bout this

details of the gig have been up on the Tapes n Tapes website for weeks.

Yes

As I said, we had to announce it after another website ran a story about the wrong band. This was a couple of weeks ago.

^

sorry to hear about that:(
i saw that queue and thought better of it... so i went on home and danced around my room listening to their record instead;)

ha-ha... just read about the 'media whores'...

.

Sorry not everybody got in and that you made to wait in the streets, but in our defense we didn't decide where people queued, the bouncers took the lead. As for the late start time, that was due to soundchecks over running, we did intend to open at 7.30 and the stage times were accurate until we got there and things didn't work.

Again, sorry about the hassle, but I'm sure anybody that's put on a night themselves will know that things will always go wrong which are out of your control. Tapes 'n Tapes will be back over and playing bigger venues soon though.

Apology not accepted

I was in the queue for over an hour and was so fucking cold and hungry that I ended up buying a bucket of Kentucky Modified Chicken. So because of you're lack of communication with the bouncers I have ended up with full on arse collapse and salmonella poisoning.

I wish you an unsuccessful furure in gig promotion.

No apologies forthcoming

I left the queue at 9 and was so angry I thought I'd email "The Management" - all 13 of them. Here's a snippet of my conversation. It seems they still cannot get their stories straight...

Hey all you crazy TnT employees - tell me, what is like to have somebody wasting your time?

Just a big thank you to whichever of you idiots thought it would be funny to see TnT fans stood outside the Old Blue Last on a freezing London night for an hour and half. Here's a tip for you - next time you advertise the doors at 7.30pm let people in at 7.30pm you self-satisfied tw*ts. Pathetic. Keep treating your fans like this and see where it gets you.

And yes, I am writing this as TnT play: I walked away at 9pm after arriving at the pub at 5.45, queuing inside the pub until I was led out onto the streets like a mangy dog to queue in the cold for 90 minutes - personally I'd rather choke on my own vomit than let you think you get away with such disrespect. Who do you think you are?

Poor.

RIP boys.

hi

this guy is totally out of order - I'm not sure his tone really merits a response. Patrick (who works in the XL office) was on the door last night, he made a real effort to get all the waiting fans in to this very small gig and we all thought he had succeeded.

Doors opened a little later as the sound check over ran - maybe this guy hasn't been to a gig before.

______
TO WHICH I COULD ONLY LAUGH AND REPLY TO ALL ONCE MORE WITH THIS:

Date: Tue, 4 Mar 2008 12:19:28 +0000

Hannah,

I'll tell you what is out of order - making people queue in the cold for 90 minutes. I spent two hours travelling to see one of my favourite bands and had to walk away, because I cannot sponsor either your bad organisation or lack of respect. Of course my tone is out of order. I was and still am furious. You should have seen the words I made myself delete last night.

And don't try patronising me either. Maybe I have not been to a gig before? I've been to hundreds of gigs from arenas to front rooms and not once have I queued like that. Not once have I been led out of a venue I had already been told to wait in only to then queue on the street. And you know what? The queue barely grew while we were out there. Instead people stood in the cold and p*ssed in the street.

Soundcheck ran over? It doesn't matter that one band takes all night to sound check despite the fact I saw them leave their seats in the bar at about 6.45 - and do you know why Hannah? In all those gigs I've been to, I've seen many, many bands soundchecking right before my very eyes while I'm stood in the venue with my friends, enjoying a drink and enjoying the atmosphere as it builds with anticipation - amazing that - perhaps you should try a few gigs yourself and see how they are run by professionals (but judging by your response below, a communications course is required first).

And finally - this guy who does not merit a response (oh the irony) has paid good money to see TnT live every time they have been to London, including the first time back in May 2006. Perhaps I should use the pin badge I was given that night to poke myself in the eyes with, it would certainly be more fun than last night or this irate discourse.

Anyway, enough is enough.

PS: Maybe you'd like to Reply All some more Hannah and waste yet more of your colleagues' time?

___
Full respect to the band manager who at least gave me a civil reply, even if it was blaming the venue. If TnT wanted to do something about their fans stood in the cold then they could have, there can be no excuse.

Never again!

To be honest

If you sent me that first email I'd tell you to fuck off - I understand that you might have been upset about not getting in but calling people twats in the opening email of a complaint just makes you look like an idiot.

yeah but

that hannah person is SO patronising.

SM_ is a hero in my eyes. epic email.

If i receieved that email, i don't think i'd

want to reply in a particularly civil and apologetic manner.

You're missing the point

Yes, yes, of course - I sent my message to get a reply - I really wanted them to apologise via email and send me another TnT badge for my collection.

The message was sent as a protest at such poor organisation. Nobody protests anymore. Most people think a protest is some mythical adventure invented for songwriters to sing about to make them look cool and intellectual.

Twits?

Well that was a token of my rage.

What makes me look like an idiot is queuing in the cold outside an empty pub in Shoreditch on a Monday night for 90 minutes.

Everybody has become so moderate lately. This is the problem. Bands/promoters know you'll be happy to do the above without complaint and be grateful for any morsels you are thrown.

Feast on folks, feast on.

Sorry

The starring out lead me to believe that it was something a lot stronger that twits.

I agree that you should have complained but disagree with the way you went about it in the first email.

Well...

I agree it was badly organised. You can't advertise it as 100 people first come, first served when that includes a lengthy guestlist AND you suddenly re-order the queue at the intended opening time.

I know it's of scant consolation, but it really was a massive dissappointment and not worth any length of waiting (I too got there early).

But if that's Hannah Gould you got a reply from, consider than an achievement! Terrible reputation, very unprofessional.
