I enjoy music much more if I'm playing computer games at the same time. I think it's because I over concentrate on music if I listen to it by itself, I become too analytical and can't just sit back, relax and enjoy.
Old shoot-em ups such as Doom or Quake work particularly well, as does Pro Evo and Timesplitters 3.

Anyway I was wondering if you people like playing games whilst listening to music and if so what do you play?

Only sports games

becasue the commentary is always gash

yeah i hardly ever play video games and not have music on in the background

anything works with pro evo because id much rather listen to music than the stupidly naff commentary.also do certain albums remind you of certain games? (sorry to mention them AGAIN) but oceansize (frames) reminds me of ico cos i listened to it non-stop when playing through ico

Albums do remind me of games and visa versa.

Particularly Tony Hawks Underground 2 and Our Love To Admire, I was playing that game when O.L.T.A first came out.

R-Rated by Q.O.T.S.A and Quake 3 is another one, this one worked really well.

Ill Communication by the Beastie Boys

will forever remind me of the first Driver game on the Playstation.

Likewise, Hello Nasty is WCW/NWO Revenge on the N64.

Don't you mean

Turn on the Bright Lights?

No when O.L.T.A first came out.

THPS2 was pre-owned, I got it cheap.

Alas not

music is for every occasion apart from when i'm watching a movie (obviously) or playing games. For some reason i don't feel it's right.

However, my boyfriend has Xcite Truck on the Wii for which he has made his own soundtrack, so i race around listening to RX Bandits, Beck, Bear vs Shark and yourcodenameis:milo.

>_

Only when I'm playing driving games, but for most others I don't bother as it puts me off the game, i.e. I can't hear what's coming round the corner/incoming shots/other characters speaking to me etc.

^ yeah, this

i also put a CD in whilst playing Wave Race, but it has to be something upbeat or some metaaaaaaal.

Chimaira - Eyes of a Criminal blends well with a jetski

only for driving games

anything more complicated.

I do like listening to the phone-ins on Talk Sport when I'm playing Football Manager though, I get quite into it.

GTA 3

Will forever be associated with Straight Outta Compton for me.

.

the last time I seriously played a video game was final fantasy XII, and I was listening to alot of cutting pink at the time. it shouldn't work, but now the two are forever linked in my mind...

whats next, monkey island and pig destroyer...

Depends on the game

Some really need the sound, but as a general rule yeah, just stick the mp3s on random.

Guitar Hero III

.

team fortress 2

lately ive been listening to black mountain, fight like apes and cloud cult while playing it.

I only play Pro Evo and Football Manager

And do so whilst watching movies. I will soon embark on season 2011/12 in FM08 with the Hammers whilst watching dumb and dumber. A Monday afternoon well spent .
I preserve music for walking, cycling and typing.

I stopped doing this

When I could no longer separate Tender Prey by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest.

endless ocean

i have a playlist of radiohead, okkervil river, burial, boxcutter, los campesinos and Beach house at the moment

Only Pro.

If its not sport, I need to hear the sound.

I can understand..

..not listening to music when playing certain dialogue or mood based games.

Although all the games I mentioned above all go well with music as does the Ratchet & Clank series. Anything that enhanses music for me has to be a good thing, I don't think I would bother playing games without music anymore.

Playing Burnout backed with some Fucked Up

tends to work quite well.

Also pro evo with the rap from 'world in motion' on a loop.

I like watching music tv

while listening to other music, or watching a movie while listening to music over the top of it. I think, god this is brilliant! Then I have to switch one of them off to concentrate on the better one. Hope that helped.

funnily enough

I regularly watch music TV whilst listening to my MP3 player, occasionally pausing it when something interesting comes on, then going back to it. I particularly like watching the cheapo videos on Channel U.

evo

thrash
= yeeeeah

playing Devil May Cry 4

for xbox 360 at the minute, listen to Deepchord, Metamatics while playing. the one album thats great with most console game though is probs 'Tango and Vectif' by U-Ziq for me.

PES has been mentioned enough times for me to say.

I won 10-0 with my Sampdoria master league team against Palermo on 5 star. I couldn't believe wat was happening, I think I play it too much. I beat Juventus 7-0 with my reserves the season before but it has to be said these results are rare.

My team is:
(4-4-2 formation)

Isaksson
Pisano
Bos
Hietinga
Bonera
Babel
Yussuf
Dalla Bona
Rosicky
Orlando
Torres

Bos is 21 and is a cente back with 90+ dribbling (acc. and speed), passing (all 4 stats), plus all the stats you need for a defender.

Orlando is 20 and nearly as good as Torres who is quite frankly ridiculous.

which version of PES is this?

I haven't really got into Master League on the most recent one as the fatigue accumulation is royally fucked, stops you actually building a team up as player's legs fall off after about 3 games.

I should of said. It's No 5.

Old school but a good one, I might have to play the secret 6 star difficulty.

Ah, good old PES5.

Probably racked up more hours on that than any other. Apart from PES4 maybe.

I remember Park Chu Young being awesome on that one.

I wish Konami would actually make a decent next gen version of PES.

Could you get results like mine shown above?

Or am I some kind of PES 5 god, please say I am.

^

pes 5 was amazing.you could do them free kicks were you get a player to roll the ball for you then you whacked it from the halfway line and more often than not it went in.soundofbastards pes2008 is good.fair enough its not at all as good as it should of been but it is still enjoyable to play with your mates.master league needs a complete revamp me thinks

Does that work, I never try.

Dalla Bona is awesome at free-kicks for me from anywhere between around 22m to 35m. His stats wern't even very good when I started the game but he's developed like a bitch, now he's my playmaker and captain.

*?

.

yeah it works too well really

give it a try.how many seasons are you into your master league?if your beating teams 10v0 and 7v0 im guessing your quite far

I used to be able to annihilate teams on PES5

I think I was playing a 3-5-2 though. Funnily enough I thought it was easier to beat the 'big' teams.

I haven't been able to spend as long on PES2008 without getting bored- after playing previous versions so much I need a bit more to make it feel like I'm playing a new game! It's still fun for vs matches, but I haven't invested as much time into getting good as I have in the past.

I sometimes come unstuck against the smaller teams.

You have all the pressure and chances and end up losing to a goal on the counter-attack.

My Samp team did struggle against AC Milan but I beat them 5-2 in the league and 5-0 in the cup last season, it now seems easy, I don't get why. I swear I'm not that much better it must be the unseen work of my now better players, off the ball or something.

About 5 seasons.

I started with the actual Sampdoria players though not the shitties you get at the beginning. I've won the master league with the shitties before but I'm impatient. I never thought I'd be better than AC Milan they have a ridiculous team.

Home time for me now. :)

age of

Only when I play Football Manager and Madden

Usually listen to something relaxing whilst play FM becuase it's such a bitch of a game.
Madden always needs music, the music on the game is always rubbish and no one, I mean no one needs to hear John Madden telling you to "They'll never get passed you with this defence" only for you to realise that seconds later the opposition have actually scored the quickest touchdown ever.
Oh plus the music needs to be upbeat, you know, to get you PUMPED!

With Driving games

I love to create my own playlist. On my old (pre360) xbox I had every song I could think of with driving in the title to listen to whilst playing 'Midtown Madness 3' e.g.

'Drive' R.E.M.
'Drivin' on 9' Breeders
'Driving' P J Harvey
'Forced to Drive' Breeders, again
'WOman driving, man sleeping' Eels
'I could drive forever' Smog
'Long drive home' Adem
'Night Driving' THrowing Muses
'Short Drive' Smog, again

Thinking about it just listening to 'At the Drive in' or 'Drive like Jehu' would have been easier

vagrant story

is linked to a perfect circle's first album in my head, good times!

Hell yes

I can only think of one game where I didn't choose my own music to an extent (Syndicate) because the music was great and would change when things were about to kick off, giving you a much needed heads up. I alos listened to the Red Alert music generally (Hell March!), but you could customise this.

I always put music on for Pro Evo and Brian Lara (about the only 2 PS games I play now), and equally for XCOM UFO on PC.

Baldur's Gate I and II (plus both expansions) basically got me really rooted into music - there's about 450 hours of gameplay there, and I always always had music on for it (I was 15 when i started them).

Doom is inextricably linked to Aerosmith's Nine Lives, in particular the track Nine Lives, which fits really well to the game. I still see those Orange Blobs whenever I give the album a spin (which I do now and again. It's a cracking album. Especially as it doesn't have 'Miss a Thing' at the end of it)

I can't listen to music when I play Cricket 07.

It's the one game that I fall apart when playing, batting especially. I suppose it's the sisn that it's a good cricket game as full concentration is needed. It also ruins the tension of cricket and therefore the ruins the experience as a whole.

I'm like this

with Pro Evo. I need zen like concentration for my careful, defensive passing style that basically involves me boring other people in to defeat. Most others though I do like having it on. Tony Hawks is impossible without music for some reason, I guess it gives rhythm for the button bashing and I love the music in We love Katamari. I should really try and buy some of that.

not really

but i do like listening to music while playing computer games.

Football Manager, Civilisation, that sort of thing...

when 17

all I did was play GT2 and listen to ben folds five. I have the weirdest associations now.

not all games

if the music's good and adds welcome atmosphere on the game, or gives clues that help you beat the game (i.e. Morrowind/Oblivion, you can tell when you're going to be attacked because the music changes), i'll listen to the in-game music

but other games, choose my own music
