There have to be loads of really acomplished albums out there that are let down by one track, which maybe prevent the album from being a 10/10 or just simply mean it's not as consistent.
Or maybe it's just an excuse for another list. :)
My votes go to.
*Price Of Gasoline - Bloc Party (Silent Alarm)
*La Lluvia - volcano! (Beautiful Seizure)
*Megalomania - Muse (Origin Of Symmetry)
*There's No Such Man As Crasp - Biffy Clyro (Infinity Land)
I'm sure there are many more, I will add them in due course, when my brain starts working.
Biffy Clyro - The Atrocity
Bjork - All The Modern Things
they are my two for now, and my list will inevitably continue
Surely my vote for Biffy is a better one.
It's just completely pointless as far as I'm concerned.
You're a Hella fan, what is the difference between Hold Your Horse Is and There's No 666 In Outer Space, it was mentioned on the Crystal Castles thread. I've ordered the former anyway. They have other albums also, right?
Hold Your Horse Is
is more based on NES-esque computer gaming than prog-esque stuff, TN666IOS has a vocalist for every song and is quite TMV sounding in places.
(hands up for worst description ever)
Both are worth getting as they are superb, just quite different
After reading your post.
I now want 666 more than the one I've ordered, Hold Your Horse Is seemed to get more praise and that's why I opted for that one.
P.S. Why is no-one else replying to my thread?
Hold Your Horse Is
is DEFINITELY worth having in your collection. It will, however, take longer to grow on you i suspect.
what on earth?
how is HYHI anything to do with NES? its almost completely (if not completely completely) guitars and drums. the guitarist is also in The Advantage, but that's hardly massively significant...
'NES-esque computer gaming '
only relates to the beginning of one track!
Muse - Hyper Music
Sevendust - Christmas Song
Justice - D.A.N.C.E.
Hyper Music isn't one of the better songs.
It is better than:
Megalomania
Feeling Good
Screenager
I can feel another list coming on.
Rate the songs from OoS, it's original, I bet it hasn't been done before.
Muse - OoS (favourite - least)
1. Space Dementia
2. Micro Cuts
3. Citizen Erased
4. New Born
5. Dark Shines
6. Screenager
7. Bliss
8. Plug In Baby
9. Megalomania
10. Feeling Good
11. Hyper Music
ta da!
Here's mine.
1. New Born
2. Citizen Erased
3. Space Dementia
4. Micro Cuts
5. Plug In Baby
6. Bliss
7. Dark Shines
8. Hyper Music
9. Feeling Good
10.Screenager
11.Megalomania
Our fist 4 are the same just in a different order.
Come on SHANDY your turn.
For some reason
Screenager reminds me of The Jungle Book. You know the bit at the end where the slutty girl entices Mowgli to the man-village?
ok here goes
1. micro cuts
2. new born
3. space dementia
4. plug in baby
5. citizen erased
6. bliss
7. feeling good
8. hyper music
9. dark shines
10. megalomania
11. screenager (surely the most tedious song muse have ever written?!)
I like Screenager :(
I like
Newborn :(
If you add up Mine, Medulla and SHANDYHOLMES ratings.
New Born, Micro Cuts and Space Dementia were our joint favourite songs, I don't see what the sad face is about.
nah, i can think of 11 even more tedious muse songs
and they're all on Black Holes and Revelations.
micro cuts
is incredible!
i love hyper music
micro cuts is the best cos of the freak out at the end and for generally sounding weird :) i havent listened to origin of symmetry in literally years
whaa?
megalomania and screenager are the strongest tracks on there for me. uber dark. i really hoped Muse would write more tracks like this for album 3. instead they turned shit. dayam.
my list
1. Citizen Erased
2. Megalomania
3. Screenager
4. Plug In Baby
5. Space Dementia
6. New Born
7. Micro Cuts
8. Feeling Good
9. Dark Shines
10. Bliss
11. Hyper Music
Everything about this post is wrong.
Especially the bit about Absolution being shit.
haha
it just left me cold, sorry! and i used to love them so much as well. it's not as bad as Black Holes though, which is the sound of a band sucking the cock of satan if you ask me.
BH&R is rotten
although i really like Hoodoo and Map of the Problematique is alright
Absolution was shit!
Citizen Erased is their best song I think.
^ i love Megalomania
and Screenagers, too.
But i don't think Absolution's "shit"
hypermusic
i think is one of my fave muse songs, and ive loved them since well before showbiz
I like 3 of those 4
Price of Gas is easily one of the best songs on the album. If you want a poor track off Origin, surely Screenager is far worse than Megalomania. And There's No Such Man is Crasp is a cool intro to Jaggy Snake.
please please please please
stop with the list threads, especially ones which have been done about 3 million times before
thx
they stem conversation and debate
and you don't *have* to open them, you realise?
yeah ive never understood that
people open the thread, to then moan about it.why not just stay away?!
i love lists.please continue!
no they don't
they get filled with unqualified responses from people who have nothing to say and so contribute just an artist/song/album name and move on. There might be some minor conversation between you and your mates, but as a whole there's just nothing to them
and no, i don't have to open them, but they stay at the top of the boards for the entire day and i'm constantly reminded of how annoying they are. And it's depressing that these are the threads which get hundreds of replies because they are nothing but unconnected, non-conversational lists, and thus not very interesting.
They've also been done like a million billion times before
nothing personal mind, i just hate this sort of thread
You can work in my job for a day
and then you'll understand.
Yeah, well i hate the football threads and the lyrics quiz threads which also stay at the top of the boards - i don't moan.
It's like the top 20 music chart - you don't like alot of the things at the top of the charts, so you just stay away from them
i assume that's because you don't like football
and the lyrics quizzes aren't a very common occurence, whereas we get about 10 list threads every day, and GalacticStar3ruption contributes at least one without fail. So i'm asking him to cease and desist
"because you don't like football"?
well yes... much like you don't like list threads. Surely that was self-explanatory?
Additionally, the endless stream of JAG threads piss me off no end, but i don't run on and dictate what people should and shouldn't do. So wheesht.
...
Yellow Submarine?
but i like music
so surely i'm more likely to enjoy music threads than you are to enjoy football threads
i also dislike JAG threads, but i'm not going to pick on some random dude who does it as a one off. If they did it every day then i would definitely have a go
help.
what is JAG ?
aye
this.
errr
right...
Freedom of speech.
Freedom to do whatever thread you wish.
exactly
we all have boring (well i think GS3 and medulla have) fucking desk jobs.lists make my day that little bit more enjoyable.its sunny today and i have to sit at a desk.i want to go sit in a park and play football and have a picnic but no i get to sit at this fucking desk all day.so go away.let me list in peace.sorry about that rant just some people moan about nothing at all.after all is this a website about music?is this a thread about music?yes and yes.sod off
yeah?
well it makes my day a bit more unenjoyable. And the whole "if you don't like it, don't watch it" line is total fucking bullshit. If you don't like something, you're allowed to complain about it. That's the British way
is this a thread about music? Yes.
Is this an interesting thread about music which hasn't been done about 5 times in the past week? No. Thus i complain
Ever the advocate of British
ways, you should embrace freedom to do what one wishes.
Snap to it - more lists!
i.e.
my freedom to bitch about list threads?
sure
but you do realise that by posting in here, you're keeping it at the top of the thread list? Wasn't that what you were trying to prevent?
gotta defend myself
or else what's the point of bringing it up?
i don't really see what
your point was anyway, because i highly doubt the frequency of them will diminish.
I understand something might irritate you, but i highly doubt telling people not to do it because you dislike it will have a massive impact
i need to learn
to read my posts prior to impulsively clicking - "highly doubt" twice in two sentences is a poor, poor use of English
i ignore a lot of shit i don't like on this site
because it's not worth the effort of arguing with the perp and his/her butt buddies (see above), but list threads are probably my main pet peeve about DiS. And so i decided to bring it up
if GS3 doesn't change his ways then i won't be surprised, but at least now he'll know that there's at least one person here who doesn't like it
well you can never please everyone
I don't expect everyone to like it.
It's not necessary for you to moan every time I start any thread of this nature.
I know your feelings about these type of threads, you're entitled to your own opinion but that doesn't mean I should stop doing them, some poeple like threads like this.
some of the people who like it:
GS3, medulla, SHANDYHOLMES
i think that if you canvassed wider opinion then you'd find a lot of people are disinterested in threads of this sort, and lots more actively dislike them. Some people just take the "it's not worth it" stance when it comes to complaining
And if we're talking figures: i've only complained in 2 of your threads. That's hardly "every time"
but didn't you say
"these are the ones that generate hundreds of replies"?? If only 3 of us like them, why do so many reply?
I think perhaps you should post a list of reasons
^This
Nobody ever replies to these threads, yeah right.
people can post in something without enjoying it
i'd put it down to a combination of:
1. boredom
2. laziness (stating a name is all that's required!)
3. a desire to contribute to the boards in whatever form possible so as to feel "in"
4. list threads being the most universal topics, so almost everyone will have something they could contribute, as opposed to "hey, this really obscure band are good" threads where they have no frame of reference
just because loads of people reply doesn't mean they think the thread is worthwhile. They reply just because it's there. And to be fair, only 17 votes on a thread with a load of possibilities for answers doesn't really show much in the way of mass popularity
i'm going out now, so lets just agree that i'm right, ok? Good
between
"let's admit i'm right. i'm off out now" (i.e. you can't reply) and "butt buddies" it sounds like you've been skipping 5th period and been sitting on here since play time?
How can there be a right or wrong when it's a matter of opinion?
He obviously can't accept that people are different.
Threads like this often open up more "intellectual debate" anyway. It's just a suitable starting point for further discussion, if you read this thread properly it's not just a barrage of lists.
Also any thread that can get everybody involved has to be a positive, it's often a struggle to start a debate about some obscure band/subject because hardly anyone will be able to reply.
well, apart from your posts
i don't see much of a desire to open up any debates. In fact, this entire thread is filled up with people mindlessly stating names, often with no qualification, and almost always with no notice taken of other users' opinions apart from the occasional "^this". If this is the result of everybody getting involved, then i'll stick to slightly more localised discussions thanks very much
These threads are cheap and disposable and pointless, and i'm sure they aren't generally very well liked by a lot of people (how many of the other non-butt buddy users have tried to argue the case for list threads? Oh yeah, none). Don't let the post count fool you into thinking you're providing something worthwile to the forum
Basically, the fact that you guys haven't really tackled any of my criticisms suggests that you've probably not got much to say, and so this is pretty much "conversation over" in my opinion. Although if you want to make any cheap personal attacks (yeah, i must be a schoolkid innit) then i'll be here to soak it all up and respond in kind
BYEE
please please please please
stop moaning about my threads and f**k off. *safety wink*
i'm surprised no-ones mentionned
sfa - shoot doris day
i nearly did
but it's better than most songs by most other bands. It's still my favourite album ever.
The Day Your Mine -
Big Daddy kane (Long Live The Kane)
Reuben
In Nothing We Trust - Agony/Agatha
Awful song!
^ this
although i wasn't largely impressed with that album as it was. Don't know why, but it didn't impress me as much as Racecar...
Crasp is a fucking amazing
Intro to Jaggy Snake. Go die.
Jaggy Snake is my favourite Biffy Clyro song.
I still believe Crasp is pointless.
every song ever written sucks but is brilliant too
a song to ruin
on a song to ruin is fucking ddddiiiirrreee
The Power
on Dog Man Star.
Way to draft in a session player, Brett!
Animal Lover
off Suede
^this
exactly!!!!!!!!!
Sloop John B
on Pet Sounds.
Without it we go from Let's Go Away For A While, straight into God Only Knows.
Perfect.
(Also see: SILVER on Doolittle)
^ i've shamefully
never heard Pet Sounds, and i really think i ought to
no way!
its all about climbing the john b sail
we used to sing it at junior school
as a round.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_%28music%29
It irratates me when i hear it.
So, i have my cd-r copy of Pet Sounds with it off, and with Hang Onto Your Ego, istead of the I Know There's An Answer. And i'll always skip it on my proper copy.
Sloop John B's alright
But yeah, it doesn't really fit the album. Probably because it wasn't meant to...
This should upset a few people
I go straight from Fitter Happier to No Surprises when listening to OK Computer - Electioneering and Climbing up the Walls are B sides compared to the rest of it
^ feel a bit sick
album is flawless
Don't get me wrong
OK Computer is flawless apart from those two songs, they're just merely...good. And the chime of no surprises just after fitter happier ends is perfect
Unhappy Birthday
off Strangeways Here We Come by The Smiths.
Electioneering is one of my favourite Radiohead songs.
:(
^
the guitar sound is amazing in that song!
What?
Climbing Up the walls is probably my favourite Rahiohead song, either that or I might be wrong.
I nominate 'Like Someone in Love' Bjork-Debut. Also 'Sweet Life' off !!!-Myth takes, so bad it sounds like a Chili Bobbins song.
